As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.
We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.
Errors include:
- The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
- When the user tries to sign-in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
- When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game.”
- When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
- Users are not able to playback certain rental video downloaded from the PlayStation Store before the expiration date.
We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.
As mentioned above, Please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologise for any inconvenience caused.
For the latest status on this situation please check either PlayStation.Blog, Twitter or PlayStation.com.

I own a phat and slim but won’t be trying until I hear from sony just in case. Also the funny thing is to comment on here you need to use your PSN account? If it was down how does it verify the users details.

It appears to me that one of two things has occurred here:
1. Something was added or changed on the PS network that caused that error, in which case roll it back and the problem should be resolved!
or, and this could be a little more sinister…
2. Sony knew this was going to happen, or made it happen, so that users would have to buy the new slimline PS3.
If the first is true then stop fooling about and fix it, if it’s the latter, an X-box is looking good!
Just spit balling here I’m not crazy and paranoid. Honest

Hope all you guys without a fix get it soon.. probably something to do with ISP’s and sync delay thats why some people on and some not (I’m Pipex)

ok, logged out and back in and I got all my trophies fro uncharted up until yesterdays session so its not a huge loss but a loss nevertheless and I suspect its because the last gamesave I made is dated for the 1st of march.

My husband was having the same problem. We have the old fat ps3. He is online right now playing mag. What he did was manually set the date to 3-1-2010 and turned off the system. turn back on the date changed to 4-28-2020.he changed it back to 3-1-2010. and signed right in. See if that helps anyone else.

Im in the GTA area well Cambridge Ontario and its presently ten to 7 in the evening and my System had the dreaded 8001050F code and when I reset the time manually then also selected via internet to set the time. It Now states the correct date and the PS network is working fine and I can play MW2 no problem! Good luck everyone it just takes like 30 seconds to do and it works fine!

Guys not tried it yet, too scared!!! One thing though, THIS IS NOT A LEAP YEAR, so why is everyone (inc Sony) saying this issue is down to this, didn’t happen last year, will the same happen next year???
Sony need to give a true & correct response to why this happened

I know this is a huge [DELETED] up on behalf of Sony, and there are a lot of [DELETED] off people, but I have heard people mentioning ‘compensation’ and ‘US people sueing’ PS3. (post 50) GET A GRIP!
So really are you saying that PSN is your life, and that you have NOTHING else that you could do with this time?
For those of you who think Sony are waiting until midnight to see if it fixes itself, do you honestly beleive that??? They stand to lose millions if they dont resolve this pretty sharpish, so i doubt they are saying ‘lets just see if it fixes itself’.
People need to get a grip and have a brew, jeees.

Mine has just come back. I have a 60gb b/c and I’m in Australia.
I reset the clock via internet (it was showing 30/4) and I’m on-line.
Trophy info is back but I did have to reload my wallpaper – no big issue there.
Thanks Sony.
