As of now, there is no update released and I don't believe anybody has snuck in my home and worked on my PS3. Sony has yet to do anything on this, the issue sorted itself out. Don't thank them just yet, but I am sure people are investigating and working on this.

Affected people won't forget this in a long time though. Millions of consoles worldwide might have been victim. People will want answers and solutions well before 2014, sooner the better.

Well I thought I would see what people were saying and I can not believe there are still people who actually believe Sony fixed this issue. They waited for it to fix itself. Its not a coincidence that it took exactly 24 hours to fix. Sony were lucky. The thing that gets me is not that I couldn't play any games, it was the way Sony kept everyone in the dark, making out that they were working on the issue and are now taking credit for fixing it.

If they had admitted the problem and informed everybody that it was a simple hardware fault, that they should have spotted from when the machine was originally tested and manufactured, and it would fix itself after 24 hours I would have respected that.

Its just dishonesty. And for all those who think they wouldn't have lied, if half the gamers on this site yesterday evening had worked out it would fix itself you can be damn sure the sony engineers knew within hours of the problem occuring.

Hey Europe,

Just a guy from the US here, I had the trouble too. The date changed to 12/31/90, my trophies got deleted, couldn't play games, account was missing, all that.

Good news! The Sony team must've put in some good work; they completely fixed everything in 24 hrs here! No update required; I just turned the system on a day after the 'incident,' and found the account back exactly as it was. I just had to sync the trophies to the account and all my lost trophies were back where they should be, not one missing.

I spent the next 3 hrs playing online with newer games and everything worked like a charm. I'm commenting just to let all of you know the error is getting fixed; don't you worry!

Here's to the guys and gals at Sony for putting their heads together to get us what we paid for.

The problem here is not whether people should get a life because they cannot live without a PS3 for 24 hours or however long it actually was.

The problem is that it shouldn't have happened in the first place. When it did, Sony didn't keep people informed enough not to post several thousand messages on messageboards world wide. Sony haven't confirmed what they are going to do to prevent this from happening in the future and indeed what the chances of it happening in the future are. Maybe they don't yet know, if that is the case they should let us know that they don't.

They have handled this problem poorly hence all the advisory posts from people, other than Sony, telling us what the problems are and the attempted fixes.

I work in IT support and when incidents like this happen the key is to keep the right people informed of what's going on at the right time and then to reassure those people that it won't happen again. Those right people are the people who can get the message out to anyone who is affected to stop questions being asked. As someone who was affected by this I don't feel that I got enough information about what went on and I am still not satisfied that this will not happen again in the future.
