As the Senior Vice President for Worldwide Studios in Europe, I’m really pleased and excited to welcome Media Molecule to the PlayStation Family. We announced today that we have acquired Media Molecule, making them a wholly owned part of Sony Computer Entertainment.
The decision was an easy one after meeting five young, talented people with a massive ambition to redefine video games as we know them and create and grow a fantastically talented team at Media Molecule. This was followed by a fantastic exclusive relationship that culminated in the launch of one of the most innovative PlayStation games of recent years. Of course, LittleBigPlanet needs no introduction here, as it was thanks to you that it became a best selling PS3 title when it released in late 2008.
The acquisition will enhance the talent pool within SCE, protect past and current investment and ensure a solid base for future investment. Media Molecule have exciting projects in the pipeline and we’re looking forward to sharing these with you in the not too distant future.
The most important thing is that nothing will change from your perspective; Media Molecule will simply continue to make great games. Welcoming Media Molecule into the PlayStation family will allow us to better support their future titles and ambitions.
In case you’re still wondering why we would purchase a developer who has only one game under its belt, allow me to present to you their list of awards and accomplishments — just click “more” below. I’m sure you’ll agree it’s an enviable list.
I have no doubt that this will mark the beginning of an even more exciting relationship with Media Molecule for the future.

Congratulations! Great decision by both parties!
I hope Quantic Dream will join Sony’s first party as well, I loved Heavy Rain, a very unique and moving game. I’d love to see them continue making games for playstation.

so now that great bit of business is concluded and i look forward to more MM projects in future how about looking at the possibilty of rewarding quantic dreams by welcoming them into the playstation family and perhaps United front too. Heavy Rain is one of the most unique games of all time and i would also like to see what else united front could do too besides the fantastically looking Modnation racers

This is great news for Media Molecule, Sony and us gamers. I do have a question regarding future LBP DLC, when will we see the Final Fantasy/Sephiroth costume pack on PSN? It’s been well over a year since it was 1st announced.

This is excellent news! Good on MM. Does this mean that you’ll be making some rooms for MM at the Soho SCEE HQ or will the molecules keep their humble premises in Guildford? Just curious!

Posted on 2 March, 2010 at 8:45 pm by HazelAM
good to see a talented group like media molecule will now be 100% dedicated to the playstation platform, i can’t wait to see what they can accomplish with their new status as a first party dev.

This is great news. LittleBigPlanet is one of the most creative and well-developed games that I’ve ever played. Hopefully Sony and Media Molecule continue to work well together. I can’t wait to see what’s in store next! Sony has a real all-star lineup of first party studios now.

I’m just delighted. Great news for PlayStation supporters. I love Little Big Planet for both PS3 and PSP. I hope more DLC are coming soon or, why not, a Little Big Planet Plus or something like that for PS3. By the way, what happened with those final fantasy costumes that were rumoured a long time ago? Copyrights and all that stuff, isn’t it? Anyway, I’m really looking forward to what you guys are planning next.
Quantic Dreams and thatgamecompany should be the next ones too!!
Regards.

This is really good news! I’m sure MediaMolecule has a bright future ahead as part of the PlayStation family. This is also a good opportunity to secure Sackboy as a PlayStation mascot, because let’s face it, it already is in the hearts of many Playstation 3 owner!
I can see only good coming from this partnership!

Poor MM. We’ll never see anything as good as LBP come from MM after this. Sony loves putting out garbage. And you easily impressed, naive youngsters will just eat it up.
Enjoy God of War, you poor saps.
