For of a lot of you today is the end of a very long wait. Almost four years since the game’s announcement at E3 2006, FINAL FANTASY XIII is now on store shelves, available for purchase. I’m taking some time out from actually playing it to let you know that the PS3 version contains an extra special addition for fans of the series.
I know that the first temptation when opening the box for your game will be to grab the disc and stick it in your PS3 without hesitation. If you take a couple of seconds to explore the manual compartment, you’ll find a SQUARE ENIX MEMBERS card. In case you weren’t aware, SQUARE ENIX MEMBERS has gone beta in Europe and looks to be expanding in form and function over the coming months. This code will give you a free, special in-game item for SQUARE ENIX’s next title in the series, FINAL FANTASY XIV, which launches later this year.
Not only that, but inputting the code into the SQUARE ENIX MEMBERS website will allow you to enter for a potential opportunity to be one of the very first to play FINAL FANTASY XIV in the PS3 closed beta. In case you don’t recall, at E3 last year we announced that the PS3 will be the only console you’ll be able to play FINAL FANTASY XIV — the series’ next MMO title — on when it launches this year. What more reason do you need to check out the new SQUARE ENIX MEMBERS EU site, and get signed up?
I thought I’d let you guys know, in case you overlooked this awesome opportunity. Keep an eye on the PlayStation.Blog in the coming months for more FINAL FANTASY XIV info and if any of you are going to the London FFXIII launch event at HMV Oxford Street, I may see you there!

Skidpro my friend, they have been ignoring us ever since money started to run in their heads.
For as much as you spam this blog with the same problem, they just hope the problem resolves itself, just like the bug with the PS3.
And the most obvious answer they will give us is something like “we’re looking at it right now” or “Square is looking at it right now”

I heard on the US blog that your not supposed to use hyphens, have you tried that, if that code you have has hyphens. I registered the game but haven’t had an email about the beta yet.

Just to correct some people here as I’ve been checking other places. Registering the game doesn’t mean that you’re going to get the code. You’re going to have a CHANCE at getting a code. So, there’s no absolute certainty that you’ll get a code. You’ll simply have a CHANCE (I seriously can’t highlight this enough) at getting inside the FFXIV closed beta. That’s it.
And btw, if you’ve signed up for the beta already and also registered FFXIII into the S-E Members, your previous sign up for the beta is completely nullified. So, that means you’re not going to have a higher chance of getting in than the others.
Anyways, just cool down and keep an eye on your e-mail inbox. You guys need to read the fine print of everything. Signing up for a closed beta of a huge MMO doesn’t mean you’re going to get in the moment you fill in the application for it.
Research, people. Do it. If you haven’t got an answer, go look for someone that has the same question elsewhere.

Any information about a subscription cost for FFXIV? I will be really disappointed if there is a fee, especially if this rumoured premium PSN service becomes available.
Also any news about Verses XIII? Will it be release next year?

@xxPIETROxx
There will almost certainly be a sub fee for XIV, that or micro transactions but can’t see them going that way. How else do you suggest they keep the servers running?

I got the email for the FXIV beta code but when I tried adding the code in to the registration field it says it was either incorrect or already used.
Still the suprise was nice to have, just a shame I couldn’t actually use it!

@54
To be fair I think some of us on here do realise that registering FFXIII does not guarantee a code. However the issue for a lot of people (maybe I’ve mis-understood) is that we have the BETA code but our ‘square-enix member’ credentials aren’t accepted on the ‘beta sign-up’ web-page whereas we can log in to the square members website just fine.
Surely the same set of credentials should do both?

@RuskiDubh
I agree with you, been unable to login to the beta application page since my game arrived yesterday at midday. I am able to login to the members page fine, and after typing in the code on the piece of paper, can see my PS3 game next to my face. however, clicking the link on the email with the beta code on, or attempting to login from beta signup link on official site just refreshes the page. Sony, do you have any idea what is going on?

@Jem Alexander:
“Not everyone who inputs the code will get access to the beta, but you’ll be notified at some point if you’re one of the lucky ones.”
At the top of the page the sub header contained the following text: “Countries: AE, AU, GB, IE, NZ”. Would this imply that the only people from these regions will be eligible for the Final Fantasy XIV Beta? I’m from the Netherlands and have an American Play Online account for Final Fantasy XI and with it (been playing it for about 6 years). But, i couldn’t enter my POL-Account into my European Square-Enix account. So, if the Netherlands would be eligible for the Final Fantasy XIV Beta by registering the code supplied within the Final Fantasy XIII Package, then i’d hope to be one of those happy campers. (^_^ )

Registered my game and got nothing… Must be because I’m not from AE, AU, GB, IE or NZ… Had I read this post earlier, I would have lied in the registration form and made myself an AE, AU, GB, IE or NZ citizen

But I’m not able to use it just like everyone else
I can’t login on the “beta web page” and trying to create a new account fails…

Anyone else having problems with the movies in the game?
Mine are all stuttering like they load too slow.
Pausing for a while seems to fix it very shortly, but I’d rather not do that throughout the game.

I don’t have vibration function on my ffxiii !!! I’ve checked ps3 settings out and it is activated. I’ve even played some other games (where there is vibration, so my dualshock 3 isn’t the problem) and it doesn’t work on ffxiii. Does anyone know anything about this problem?

I, too, am not getting any vibration with FFXIII. I checked to make sure the vibration setting was ‘on’ and it is. Anybody know anything to help?

still nothing when i try to register, the email’s correct, checked my spam folder.
there’s no contact information on the site so that leaves here.
but no doubt it’ll get ignored like always.
and fffan4, i’ve read that the vibration is on it’s just so weak you can barely feel it, i only have a sixaxis pad so i don’t get any anyway, maybe they’ll patch it to make it stronger.

The details you use to log in to register XIII and the log in for the Beta applications are two totally different user names and passwords. meaning you have to make 2 accounts. (It even tells you on clicking link to beta application form)
The problem i had earlier was not being able to input the code no matter what method i used. But now it all seems fine. good luck!

@72
I saw that on the sign-up page but I thought that only applied if you didn’t have an existing square-enix account.
I reckon there’s some kind of delay sycning up existing accounts with all the new square-enix members signing up with FFXIII. Don’t want to create another account in case I invalidate my existing one. Besides a system where you create multiple accounts to access different content doesn’t make any sense!

I fought with this crap for some time and finally managed to send in the application just now
Okay, so to sum it all up:
1. Normally register your game on Square Enix Members site as the leaflet included in the game box tells you to.
2. When you get the FFXIV promotional code, go to game’s Beta Test Application Form and register another account (this time the Square Enix ID one)
3. Log in using the newly created account (SE Members account won’t work, it has to be the SE ID one)
4. Where they ask you to, type in the FFXIV promotional code that you received via e-mail earlier. Notice I said TYPE IN, not copy and paste. I dunno why but otherwise you get a message about your code being invalid/already used.
5. Send your application and cross your fingers.
Good luck, hope this helps

Can confirm that the code does not like being copied and pasted. Typing it in cures the code is wrong issue.

Square-enix supposedly said Final Fantasy 14 is free to play, thats why ps3 is the only console that can play ff14 coz PSN is free, they had issues with microsoft over trying to charge to play coz gold costs a bomb on xbox, and you have to have gold to play online. Square want people to be able to play for free so there should’nt be any issues with having to have subscriptions, this is what i’ve read on numerous websites anyway.
