Good morning all (not often I’m posting before lunch), today the store will be up nice and early, because we’re lovely folks like that
Lovely folks that bring you the PSP Favourites promotion (which I posted about earlier in the week) a new batch of Special Offers, more permanent price reductions and of course all that sparkly, shiny, new content that keeps you coming back for more (or is it my magnetic personality?).
I’m pleased to say we have available the pre-order for the forthcoming Sam and Max: The Devil’s Playhouse series of episodes. Until the launch of the first episode you can pre-order the bundle at a lower price, and then once the episodes are released (one each month) you can download them directly from the store. If you haven’t enjoyed any of the previous titles featuring this great team, then prepare for some serious fun; and it’s not much longer to wait until the first episode is upon us.
This week you’re also going to be able to take another trip into the world of Heavy Rain, with a new scene featuring Madison (some of you may recognise this as the scene that was used to demo the game at Leipzig 2008).
It goes without saying this is all served up with lots more great content, which is all handily listed below.
If I don’t get the chance to talk to you directly in the comments this week, have an awesome Easter, and see you on the flipside.
Cheers.

Can those moaning about linux at least keep it to the firmware update thread? My little violin cannot keep up.

@50 In Australia it actually IS excuse me.
They sold a product with an advertised feature. They have no removed that feature. That is illegal under Australian law.

All this PSP stuff!…time for me to get a PSP I think.

@54
They advertised it? Erm, no they didn’t?
Point out one single case of actual advertising of the feature and you are excused.

Gotta join in with the “moaners” here, From my understanding of directive 1999/44/EC Sony have broken consumer law here in the UK and should be held accountable.

I hold out little faith that Mike will reply to this but are we going to see *any* new PS One titles in the store soon? I appreciate the odds of seeing anything that actually appeals are remote but some new titles would be nice.

@50 – just because you’re not affected?
It is standard ‘bait and switch’ tactics – I bought a ps3 with the ability to install and use Linux – now sony have effecitvely stolen my Linux machine.
screw you sony.

Nice update! Maybe I’ll grab one of those games!

@mike you not getting a so-so update from me today it’s a good update.
i never think we see the day that when linux died, Namco arise in it’s place so i be getting that & HR-DLC.
maybe 2weeks getting S&M it good to see we getting pre-orders will it be for other titles, im sure it be popular.
but it would be even great update if ps1 classics has come today. but no how many weeks now. :p
& lastly have a happy Fool’s day & a happy easter to ALL.

@56 Sony only trumpeted it loudly at launch/prelaunch, at keynotes quite often. You know small mentions… /sarcasm
It’s also worth mentioning that they were almost going to have linux preinstalled. Certain models of the ps2 could have linux aswell. linux has been a very big part of the ps3. It was NEVER hardly mentioned or not advertised as you have tried to imply.

Posted on 1 April, 2010 at 10:14 am by vhcmz
@31
Sure. Sony Make that price reduction to try to go away from the fiasco with “Others OS”. That form my point of view is not called “LOYALTY” is called “BRIBERY”

Hi Mike. Can you confirm if DOA PAradise is coming to PSN. it’s out at retail tomorrow after all.

Re: namco Museum essentials.
Does that mean we will be getting the space for Home anytime soon or will we be waiting 9 months for the space to appear for Home?
Ghostbusters personal space, wow I’m almost glad I’m off work sick today.

Thanks for the very early update
Couldn’t wait to buy Chinatown Wars with such a price. I will probably buy more discounted PSP Games after the holidays, after making sure that I’ve got some money left.
I’m really happy with promotional discounts like this. It shows that we are interested in digital distribution and we will support it if the price is right. Congrats to Sony for giving us the chance for some quality gaming (there are the best games on PSP right now) at low prices.
Is that TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled a PSP Game or the HD remake on PS3? I will probably buy that too at such a great price out of nostalgia.
I would also like to say that I’d really like Silent Hill Shattered Memories on the EU store. Please Mike do something!

Mike,
What’s all this talk of Wednesday updates?
Can it be true? Is the man that single handedly* banished Anti-Climax Thursday to the rubbish bin of history, really moving to Wednesday’s?
* obviously by saying “single handedly”, I also acknowledge that Ross might have helped a bit as well… with the kettle

Hey Mike, Do you know if theres any chance of a demo for 3d dot game heroes?
70
Posted on 1 April, 2010 at 10:17 am by helghast102
@63
Haha, that’s what I thought.
I know they have talked about it, but they have hardly made a big deal about it.
Compared to other features, Linux has only been muttered. and merely talking at keynotes ISN’T advertising, no laws were broken.
71
Posted on 1 April, 2010 at 10:18 am by astrocrack
Pretty weak update. Today the ps3 is getting more sutff removed than added. What is so great about that?
72
Posted on 1 April, 2010 at 10:21 am by smokeypsd
@70 it wasn’t just at keynotes excuse me. Those events are quite important aswell. I gave your freaking example. now it’s suddenly not good enough?
Btw by your dodgy logic, all press releases aren’t advertising, which there have been linux based press releases for the ps3 outlining it and “advertising” it.
73
Posted on 1 April, 2010 at 10:21 am by krioto
@70 – stop being a sony shill.
It’s written on the side of the box my ps3 came in, and also in the manual – now run along little man.

@56 & 75 lol nice catch and pwned.
I especially like this part.
There is more to the PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system than you may have assumed.
Advertising much?

Posted on 1 April, 2010 at 10:29 am by Carnivius_Prime
Looks like I’m broke anyways after coming up with an alternative to using my PS3 as a decent little computer. Nothing on Blu Ray I want though except Heavy Rain (finished God of War 3 already and there’s been absolutely nothing else of interest to me released this year so far) and nothing I really want all that much on the store after all. Looks like I’ll just be playing Uncharted 2 multiplayer as usual.

Posted on 1 April, 2010 at 10:30 am by TehPhilosopher
I’m not going to be spending any money on PS3 anymore due to the firmware downgrade today which takes away an advertised feature on MY console. I was expecting to spend 1,000+ EUR this year on games and peripherals (Move), but thanks to Sony’s actions I will stop spending any more money on anything made by Sony.
My next gen console will be Xbox720, OnLive, or a PC.

One of the best updates ever Mike, if only because if all the great price cuts on PSP stuff. I held out on buying GTA: Chinatown Wars but I’ll bite at that offer price. Have a great Easter everyone.

Thanks Mike, but it looks like I can’t access Store after fw 3.21 upade goes live, as I need to use Linux in my PS3. I also would like to use Store too, as I have heard that FF IX is going to hit Store sooner or later. (Plus tons of other nice stuff and play online games, specially M.A.G.)
It is rather sad that Sony didn’t bother to check European consumer laws before announcing 3.21 as removing OtherOS-option really does break several of those laws.
I still keep hoping fw 3.21 is april fools joke tho… Sigh…

hey mike. jus gotta say GREAT update.
first thing i gotta ask is, the sam and max pre-order is a MUST for me. but its my birthday next week and i know im due a couple psn vouchers so was gonna get it next week. that plenty of time before the games out to pre-order?
also any news about the resident evil ps1 games coming to store?
and how did u find time for this huge update?
and any chance of an update allowing us to use trophy icons as out avatars?
J
ps. we need a mega drive setion on store with emulated games. wud kick as.
Posted on 1 April, 2010 at 10:47 am by Mike Kebby
You’ll have at least two weeks to grab the pre-order
89
Posted on 1 April, 2010 at 10:39 am by SKINRUSH
I’m going to jump on the moaning about the removal of Other OS bandwagon too.
Whilst I didn’t really use Linux on my PS3 all that much, I did end up buying a USB keyboard & mouse for that use, which are now redundant.
Yes, I know I can sell them on (at a loss), or keep them for no good reason, but that’s not the point.
I feel that it would be appropriate for Sony to compensate PS3 users in some way for the removal of a feature which may have been a factor in them buying a PS3 in the first place.
90
Posted on 1 April, 2010 at 10:41 am by Orangeno
I like it (update), but this is to early for me!!
I will get the pre-order. Nice to see that even that is possible trough the store!
Happy easter, do not drown in the chocolate…

Where is the great update people is talking about? Did I miss something? I can only see PSP things to buy, almost anything to PS3, oh wait, they removed a functionality, amazing update in fact… not! Let’s see if this move is in fact illegal, if it is I will, probably, return my PS3 for a full refund.

@80
Next time finish please.
There is more to the PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system than you may have assumed. In addition to playing games, watching movies, listening to music, and viewing photos, YOU CAN USE THE PS3™ SYSTEM TO RUN THE LINUX OPERATING SYSTEM.
And by the way in which century are you. Advertise is not fix a flyer on the wall or on TV. Theres loads of other ways to advertise. And the website from Sony is one of them.
94

Ah nuts. No access to PSN or the store anymore.
Just lost a customer, Mike

Posted on 1 April, 2010 at 10:50 am by smokeypsd
@93. I just cherry picking my favourite sentence out of it that’s all? What are you going on about, have you actually been reading my posts? I KNOW it’s advertising. I liked it as it encapsulated the very idea that Sony have been trying to push all along, the ps3 is more than just a games console. it can do linux, it can do bluray, it can do media streaming, etc etc.
Think before you blast, your targeting the wrong man here. I’m on your side.
96
Posted on 1 April, 2010 at 10:51 am by iapetus
@70: Phil Harrison described it as one of the most powerful features of the PS3. That’s hardly muttering. And yes, it *is* illegal under EU and UK law.
Of course, most of the greatness in this update is for the PSP, and there’s no need to do a firmware update to access that – either download it directly on the PSP or use the PC version of the store to download and sync to the PSP.

@mike i forgot to say congrats to your EX-scee boss david reeves for getting TOP JOB of cRapcom ceo, maybe now we will get our capcom ps1 classics, as they said “we want to expand our market etc to europe”.
the old saying, “let them come to you, Not you come to them”.
oh the irony.

Posted on 1 April, 2010 at 10:58 am by funnydude6556
@54 yeah but australian law also bans any game with a rating over 15+ so I think it’s fair to assume some of the laws in australia are stupid.
This isn’t false advertising as the Terms and Conditions are obviously going to be changed and there’s a very good reason to get rid of it, sony would lose a lot of money in the PSN Store from hackers and that would mean guess what?
CRAPPIER UPDATES! Seeing as your not even pleased by the state of the updates at the moment I’ll say this is a good thing.
