Hello again, I hope you all enjoyed your Easter break. Let’s see what we have in store this week:
For all of you requesting some manga, IDW have provided a corker. Hideyuki Kikuchi’s Vampire Hunter D Vol 1 is set in the post apocalyptic year of 12,090 A.D. From the darkness of fallout, mutants and a race of vampires known as the Nobility have spawned. Villagers live in fear & all they have to battle this danger is a different kind of danger – enter D – a lone, mysterious vampire hunter. Definitely deserves its 17+ rating!
Also from IDW we see the return of Zombies Vs Robots with the first issue of a 4 part series: Aventure. Chris Ryall provides the script again (and the audio commentary!), Ashley Wood provides the covers and 3 new artists work on each of the 3 serialised tales. Highly recommended!
If gruesome, ritualistic killings are your cup of tea then check out Markosia’s Ritual. A series of murders in the small town of Black Root all have one thing in common: they’re reminiscent of ancient witch trials. The FBI are on the case and soon realize that a supernatural killer is on the prowl – condemning his victims to diabolical ordeals.
Finally we see the return of the extremely popular Atomic Robo from Red 5 and more Amazing Spider-Man from Marvel.

Frustrating I know. We’ve only been going for 3 months, so it’s still early days.

Boy, do can we expect Digital Comics to move onto common e-readers?
Like the Amazon Kindle etc. etc.
Posted on 8 April, 2010 at 2:27 pm by Pete Stott
I don’t think so. Most e-readers use a file format called epub which is great for text and the odd image – but not so good for high resolution (colour) imagery. Also e-ink devices can’t display the camera animations from panel to panel due to the low refresh rate.

I was going to say you would have a hard time matching last weeks store update but this one isn’t far off! Last week had some fantastic comics on it, especially Crown of Shadows #2 which I think was the best issue of Locke & Key yet, and Eternal Descent #1 was outstandingly well done.
Great to finally see Atomic Robo back on store though, that’s been a very long wait. Just need Neozoic to return now and some more 2000AD collections and I’ll be very happy.

I have to agree, Crown of Shadows #2 and Eternal Descent were ace!
Neozoic gets a lot of requests. We’ve been given some reassurance that we’ll be seeing more at some stage. Definitely some more 2000AD stuff in production though.

Pete, can anyone confirm whether or not Giant Size X-Men #1 will be put on the Store?
It is quite important, in that it finishes off the Joss Whedon Astonishing X-Men story arc. The last edition of Astonishing that was put up is left frustratingly unresolved because of the absence of this comic.
Can you please at least investigate this?
Locke & Key makes me
, so it’s not all frustration!

Hi acridweasel, I can’t confirm anything just yet, but we are chasing it. Locke & Key makes me
too. Enjoy.

I haven’t got a confirmed date yet. I’d guess at 2 months but I may be wrong.

Vampire Hunter D ooooooooohhhh i shall be getting that.
Does this title signify the flood gates opening for more manga???
I have been thouroughly impressed with how this has developed over the months it has been going. I initially thought meh it’ll just be marvel and DC, neither of which interest me much, but some of the Markosia comics have been great.
Looking forward to seeing more, keep it up Pete

Cheers ESPGANESAIII! I wouldn’t say it’s opened any flood gates. But there are plans a foot.

Another set of classic Xmen comics for my fix. I really have to stop reading them all in one night and read one a night.
Also are you guys no allowed to upload DC comics due to a contract from a rival or something? I want some Batman.
Very nice to see some Manga making an appearance on the store.

I only got into reading digi comics a few weeks ago, but Locke & Key is outstanding
Is there any more like it that you can recomend??
Posted on 9 April, 2010 at 1:47 pm by Pete Stott
Hey Slarth, I’m glad you are enjoying the comics. Locke & Key is awesome! I’m not sure what else to suggest, have you tried the Wormwood Gentlemen Corpse comics? Give them a Google to see if they’re your style. Or try Cancertown, the first chapter is free.

pretty good line up, as usual.
great to see some manga.
bought eternal descent last week, the audio commentary is a great addition, something that simply wouldn’t be possible with a print comic.
another vote for a ps3 version
any thoughts on the sample comics idea i posted last week?
just a few pages of the first issue of a series to give you and idea of what you’ll find inside.
i know there are a few books i’m unsure of and would like to check a few pages of to see if i would like to buy them.
one last thing, are you guys talking to dark horse about getting their books on the service? because they have some great titles.
Posted on 9 April, 2010 at 1:42 pm by Pete Stott
Hey HazelAM, I agree that it would make it easier to take a chance with a new comic if you can see a few screenshots. We are working on providing samples from all the comics. We hope to have them on both http://www.playstationcomics.com and on the PlayStation store.
I’m not allowed to talk about publisher specifics, but we’d obviously love for Dark Horse to be on the service!
