Hi everyone. I’m John McLaughlin, and I’m a producer on the new PlayStation Move brawler, The Fight: Lights Out.
We had a really positive response from everyone who played the game at the Game Developers Conference under the working title, “Motion Fighter,” and since then we’ve been working hard on getting the game together. We’re currently in an alpha state and things are starting to look sweet.
We’ve conducted a ton of motion capture to ensure that every punch, every hit reaction, every dirty move and every hard-hitting knockout makes the player feel right in the thick of the action. So get ready to go blow-for-blow in the fight of your life because now, only with PS3 and the PlayStation Move motion controller, you’ll be able to throw punches with total precision. Throw jabs, hooks and uppercuts any way you like, just as you would in real life. Duck, bob and weave in real-time with the PlayStation Eye tracking your head movements.
Don’t think you’re much of a fighter? Well, it doesn’t matter — just fight dirty instead! Launch a two-handed ear drum burst to stun your opponent and follow up with a sly elbow to the face. Grab hold of his ears, head-butt him and then finish him off with a backhander. This is The Fight, and you can fight any way you want to – just make sure you win! All of this is only possible with the freedom of movement available with PlayStation Move.
That’s all from me for now. Be on the lookout for more on The Fight at E3. In the meantime, check out this new video to the get the low down on how PlayStation Move helps deliver the ultra-realistic brawling experience of The Fight.

Welcome back to the blog John,
gotta say this game looks like it could be great fun, even at this early stage!

If this game can replicate punching someone in the family jewels, it might give me faith in Playstation Move after all!

This game is being made by a Swedish developer so it is fun to see swedes making great games for ps3. I hope it works as good as the the Concept say it does. If so, it will sell very well!

Thanks for your blog post, Mr McLaughlin.
Your game is the only reason I have seen so far for me to try the PlayStation (“Co-motion”) Move controllers as (to date) nothing else has inspired me with the suggested line-up of titles.
Is the new name for the game hinting at a possible franchise (with different sub-titles to the “The Fight” prefix)? In any respect the revised name is better than the previous suggestions of “Dukes” (Yee-ha good buddy) & “Motion Fighters” (as that sounds like a poo[r] brawling game).
Hopefully you can deliver the essence of “Urban Reign” &/or “The Con” (née “Fighting Spirits”) incorporated with a current console (“entertainment system”) generation version of the PS2′s THRUSTMASTER Fighting Arena.

Please can you confirm if there will be online multiplayer matches, or offline two-player bouts? Or is the action restricted to single player games?
I am also concerned that until I buy the new peripherals I will not be able to sample a playable demo version of “The Fight: Lights Out”. Provision of any trial version (either by the PlayStation Store, the cover-mounted Blu-ray Discs available with the “Official PlayStation Magazine”, or even the FirstPlay digital content) will obviously be restricted to consumers that already own the components of the PlayStation Move set-up if future titles do not support both methods of input. However, I suspect this is not something you can comment about at this time.
However, please can you confirm if “The Fight: Lights Out” can be played with the standard SIXAXIS/DUALSHOCK 3 controllers, or is the only interaction with the on-screen character by the Navigation & Move controllers?

If I am not alone with my reservations about the technology perhaps it may be a consideration to re-visit regional locations in the same style as the delivery of the recent “The PlayStation House” campaign & offer first-hand (or hands!) experience prior to the commercial release of the PlayStation Move accessories.
Thanks for your further clarification or any additional information you can provide.
BFN,
fp.

I’ve always wondered, could Move,SCEJ face tracking and knowledge of the body allow software be used to impose a full iK skeleton on the user,a sort of “faked” body tracking?

Looks good. I’m a fan of boxing, so I think it would be nice to see a boxing mode (it’s just not quite the same without the gloves), but I’m guessing that’s not going to be in this particular game… oh well^^ Hmm, my biggest concern, believe it or not is not with the technology so much as the results of each of your hits… the damage and impact. Even if the swings are great, it can’t be like street fighter, a battle of health bars, the damage should have an effect on the fighting, and be very closely related to the hit that was taken… and how well it connected. Anyway, looking forward to this^^

If the game supports online 1v1 battles then Playstation Move and Fight Night Lights out is a purchase from me. If it doesn’t do online then Im going to stick with my dualshock 3 controller. So will this game have online?

I also wonder whether or not the game supports online gaming. That would be great

Hey John.
Looking good so far – definitely on my list of games to rub in the faces of any Wii fanboys I come across.
Anyway – what are the chances of DLC for this game, or anything else like this to be developed by you or indeed Sony? And online is also a HUGE plus. Once you’ve mastered playing against the PS3 or story mode it becomes a game forgotten unless there’s some re playability value to it.

I kinda like it, tbh I can’t wait, I am a professional martial arts instructor & I can honestly see me enjoying this game. As for the controller I think the future is very bright, we have a wii and tbh it’s hardly planned with, even my PS2 has more action than the Wii, I kinda feel sorry for all the other controllers as Playstation will rise up again and take its thrown!

I hope the feedback in the game is better than the feedback in this blog article
