Unless you have been living under a stone for the past week, you should have realised we have released a brand new VidZone patch!
As a quick recap, this includes improved search function, in-store game purchasing, a snazzy new main menu carousel and 100s of brand new TV channels including Artist TV, Genre TV, Label TV and Year TV! Is your favourite artist there? Are you missing a specific Genre? Or do you have any great playlists you remember us featuring that we can create a channel for?
You may have also noticed a new channel magically appearing earlier this week – Sub Focus TV! We’ve had one of the first plays of brand new Sub Focus video ‘Splash’ featuring Coco who is tipped for big things this year and is Sting’s talented daughter – if you’ve not checked it out yet, then we suggest you do!
Enough of that… on to this week’s update…

Any chance of some Muse? Add them and possibly Radiohead, and the service will be a ’10′ rather than ’9.5′!

Disturbed playlist.
Hell, how about some Disturbed TRACKS so I can make my own. Forget all the generipop you keep peddling. Give ppl what they are asking for and leave the rest till after.
I’ve been asking the same thing, each week, since launch and getting the same lame excuse. Meanwhile on Rockband and Singstar requests for the same artists were met with better results. Weird, that….

Hey SpiderMike_X,
We are working on getting ALL requested band on VidZone, I promise! However, as we don’t have the same force behind us as many other games it will inevitably take longer.
If you would like to email requests please send to playstation@vidzone.tv
Thanks!
Lex

Ben, is there an update of the menu system and front end in the works.
I thought it was just me who had trouble with it, until I mentioned it over on Eurogamer, and loads of people agreed with me and started saying that they found it a nightmare and that it was the one thing that they thought let the service down.
The average answer was that they loved the service but hated the menu system.
It might just be that we’re old doderers over there, but I think its something you should look into.

Hi Alex/Ben, I really like the update with the new VidZone TV feature. However, I feel that the original viewing mechanism – now called “On Demand” has suffered as a result. For instance, in On Demand, where are the featured playlists? OK, I can see them in VidZone TV but using that interface it’s not possible for me to skip tracks (unless I’ve missed something). I hope you’ll consider reintroducing the featured playlists in On Demand.
Once again, overall the changes are welcome (thank you!) but with such big changes like this there are usually teething problems and I personally feel that a minor tweak is needed.

Hey reakt,
Similar to ‘real’ Music TV, you are unable to skip or fastforward tracks – however if you go to your playlists you will still be able to rewind and skip as usual. We will continue to feature playlists in the On Demand section, but obviously we want to show off our TV Channels too!
Thanks!

Sadly still clunky software makes it too annoying to use which is a pity because it could be a decent bit of kit.

Do you have any plans to increase the video quality?
I appriciate this is a free service and all and that bandwidth cost money but on todays 40″+ sharp and unforgiveable LCD’s the image quality could do with a bit of improvement…
Some videos seem vorse than others too. I guess this has to do with worse source material which combined with high compression creates a cumulative effect?
