Hey everyone, me again. A massive thank you to Pauline who did a sterling job looking after the weekly updates in my absence. The team have certainly been busy recently and I’ve trained two new publishers this week already. Exciting times, but what of this weeks highlights?
Having delivered Kick Ass and Powers, Icon continue to send us awesome comics. This week sees the release of both Criminal and Incognito written by Ed Brubaker (The Death of Captain America) and art by Sean Phillips (Marvel Zombies). Incognito is described as the most insane and evil super-villain comic you’ll ever read. The comic deals with former villain Zack Overkill, who is in the Witness Protection Program after giving testimony against The Black Death. Zack is required to take a drug that eliminates his super abilities and given a job delivering mail in an office.
Trying to escape the boredom of a normal life, Zack experiments with illegal drugs. It quickly becomes obvious they interfere with the power-blocking drug and he once again has his super strength. He begins wearing a mask again and searches for action in the streets and back alleys acting as a vigilante rather than a super-villain to avoid being arrested for violating his parole agreement. A great read.
From IDW we have more Star Trek and Transformers, plus a new series called Witch and Wizard: Battle for Shadowland based on James Patterson’s #1 novel. Oh and before you ask, we are still eagerly waiting for the next Locke & Key. The wait will be worth it though as they are doing something extra special for us…
Finally Insomnia release chapter 4 of the excellent Cancertown and Marvel release more Wolverine with work from legends Mark Millar and Steve McNiven.

Nothing in the schedule yet I’m afraid but IDW constantly add new comics to the list, so I definitely wouldn’t rule this one out!

That’s quite a shame. Brand New Day is further in than the ten or so issues SCEE have provided. I would have thought you would keep up with it but it seems the idea is to offer limited series’ and not weekly issues, which is disappointing because seeing as I don’t have a local comic emporium Ive always had to look to download sites to acquire my fix of the wallcrawler. The PSP reader was a welcome chance to collect legitimately but without any consistency in releases I am forced to yet again look towards other, less desirable, methods to grab each issue.
Shame.

Marvel have provided 71 Amazing Spider-Man comics so far which isn’t too shabby! They’ve sold incredibly well so I wouldn’t be surprised if we were to receive some more.

i don’t believe the remarks anymore
that a worldwide company as SCE doesn’t have a roadmap for everything they do
they have it for the televisions, camera’s
MS has it for everything they do
nintendo has it for everything they do.
sony has it for their console releases(not talking about worldwide release dates for all the same)
but for the comic & videostore, which is working technically worldwide already.
but only the countryflags has to be set to Y.
the project leaders refuse to give a planning
i wonder wat releasedateLies on the E3 is gonna be told
Posted on 19 May, 2010 at 5:23 pm by Pete Stott
We have a roadmap, it’s just unfortunate that the technology we need to release in certain stores is not quite ready yet. We have already signed plenty of European publishers and even have some of their content ready. We understand (& share) your frustration, can we just ask for your patience in the meantime.

how do you delete comics? I’ve looked but can’t find anything
Posted on 20 May, 2010 at 9:51 am by Pete Stott
Either use Media Go to manage your comic collection, or wait a little longer for us to release a new version of the reader which will allow you to delete your comics.

Incognito does sound very good, I’ll have to check that out.
Any news on whether there will be more Ben Templesmith stuff going up? Will we see Wormwood again at some point?
Posted on 20 May, 2010 at 9:54 am by Pete Stott
No news yet. We’ve put all the available Wormwood books on the store already (minus the one we weren’t allowed to) When Ben gets round to penning some more we’ll be banging on his door to let us release them.

Pete, why do you keep adding more new comics that I have to read? Don’t you know I don’t have enough free time as it is??? Thought I was doing well having my backlog down to 15 comics
I shall get caught up at some point…by the end of the year at least anyway lol
Oh and Cancertown chapter 4? Woot!

Can’t you read comics at work? Or is that just me?

I want the same thing as Shadowdragoon want, start releasing comics in Norway. The only comics in norwegian stores are only a comics with disney characters. Who wants to read that anymore? xD
We are not asking you to translate the comics, who the heck would want to read comics in norwegian?

I have to concur with ShadowDragon, JonyH and Lantianer21… For the life of me i cant understand the holdup.
You say the:
- “technology we need to release in certain stores is not quite ready yet.”
Say what? you HAVE the technology.. its just a matter of releasing the comics on the Store! We even have the reader! Or does other countries recuire some OTHER technology than that you use in the UK?
Or is it simply the never ending licenese to publish mumbojumbo? In that case SAY so.
“We have already signed plenty of European publishers and even have some of their content ready”
I dont see what this will have to do with anything. I for one is overjoyed with what you publish now, and really dont need something local to kick off the “local” store. And as JonyH, we WANT it in english. They have some Marvel comics here, translated of course, and one does not get the same feel of spider-mans snappy comments when its translated.
Bottomline; flipp the switch and let us enjoy the fantastic library you guys have build up, or me more spesific in where the trouble lies so we 1) know whats going on and 2) maybe can help put pressure on the places that are holding back!
Posted on 24 May, 2010 at 10:36 am by Pete Stott
Hey Swoofah, I wish it was as simple as that. The store technology we use is based on the video store software. It was fairly simple to use this software to open a few English language comic stores, however when it came to other languages or countries that spoke more than one, we had a problem. It took time for the departments responsible to upgrade the software, but it looks like it’s almost ready.
So, nothing to do with license agreements (although that may prevent some titles going live in some countries).
Also, we are planning on launching English content alongside local content – so no worries there.
Finally, if you want to help make sure your country gets a comic store contact your local SCE offices and let them know there is a demand.
