I’m back to give you all a quick heads up on what’s coming up in episode 12 of FirstPlay, which hits the Store this Wednesday.
We’ve got two HD reviews for you this week. Firstly, we smash a whole bunch of guys to meaty pieces as we put new American Football effort Backbreaker through its paces, and then we’re the ones in for a stern going over as we take on the infamously nails RPG Demon’s Souls. Watch our extraordinarily patient review to find out if it’s as good as it is unforgiving.
On top of that we’ve also got a preview of Namco Bandai’s Ico-esque adventure, Maijin: The Forsaken Kingdom, and a review of Denzel Washington’s jolly Blu-ray apocalypse The Book Of Eli, as well as our regular round of network highlights, including a look at the latest comics in the PSP store, and a round-up of the best and most sickening Skate tricks and spine-compacting bails.
Our screenshot galleries this week include LittleBigPlanet 2 and The Force Unleashed 2, and after some viewer feedback we’ve added the ability to watch each gallery as a slide-show with the press of a single button. And that button is R2. Go R2!
In case you missed it last week, episode 12 also includes our exclusive demo of Backbreaker, and don’t forget that the minis we gave away in episodes 7 to 10 – Echoes, Blast Off, Age Of Zombies and Aero Racer – are all still available to download in, on the Store now for just 99p each.
Please do find us on Twitter at @firstplay_uk, which is updated several times a day with regular news, links and competitions, and email any suggestions, feedback or marriage proposals to FirstPlay@futurenet.com. We’re also on the official EU forums here.
See the Future of PS3. First.

I answered this in my store post last week pitviper23, I think Nathan would rather deal with FirstPlay queries only
It did get a permanent price reduction two weeks ago.
Nathan – sorry for jumping into your comments section

Demon’s Souls is an absolutely brilliant game, there’s nothing even remotely comparable to this on any console.
Never before has the experience of being a knight in the Middle Ages, running around with a sword and shield through monster and dragon infested castles, been delivered with such force.
Of course you can play as a sorcerer, thief or bowman if it pleases you.
I’m going to buy the UK collector’s edition even though I already own the normal Asian version, it’s just such a rare gem that I have to own the CE.
Please From Software do your magic and give us Demon’s Souls 2. How could they not continue with a franchise as highly praised and critically acclaimed as this one? This is the best thing they released in ages.

Demon’s souls is an absolutely brilliant game with a brilliant story. This game is made with hardcore players in mind so even though every character has a story you really wont learn too much about it.
The action is done in a very good fashion, every weapon has a primary and secondary move, and every weapon can be used two handed to increase the power.
The Boss fights are exiting and difficult, you need to learn the movements of the bosses so you can dodge every hit and hopefully not get on hit killed.
There is no reason anyone should not get this game, the music is astounding and the online takes the PSN to an amazing level, often feeling like an MMO when you are only trapped to your world, or enter or invade another in the intent to either help them or kill them.
The areas at first seem very linear however, after a couple of backtracks finding secret areas and rare items you will learn to love the beauty of these simple areas.
Definitely the best RPG game on the PS3 and I know I will probably be double dipping on this one and buying the European version on release.

I second everything GutsBerserker said.
Demon’s Souls is just epic, definitely one of the best games this gen. I already own the Asian and US versions and I’m still getting the EU version.
If you’re even remotely interested, you should just buy it, you won’t regret it.
See you guys online.

Everyone should get Demons Souls; I haven’t felt such a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction at finishing an area in such a long time.
Also if you are patient and methodical you actually shouldn’t die too often. I only died 84ish times on my first playthrough
. And every one of those deaths was because I messed up and not because of cheap level boss design.

84 deaths is a fair amount on one playthrough, On my first playthrough I only died 24 times.

I played Demon Souls a while back (friend imported it cos he got tired of waiting). It’s ok but I didn’t enjoy it that much. Maybe it’s a game for people with a lot more free time than I have. It wasn’t that it was hard, I just didn’t find it particularly fun and the story didn’t appeal to me at all (I’m not into that genre of story)

I think R2 may be my favourite button,
I mean it’s Wall Run in Prince of Persia
and Throttle AND Shoot in GTA IV.
What more could you ask for from a button?

Demon’s Souls? beaten the US version, planning on getting the EU special edition, it’s my favorite game so far this generation. Probably the game I’ve played online the most (multiplayer games aren’t my thing).

Hi, um for some reason when I try to download this episode it hangs at 90% downloaded
it won’t download past 1022mb, I have 31gbs free space left and I’ve restarted both my ps3 and the download at least 6 times
I’d really like an answer on how to download this as I have paid for the subscription

I’m hovering over whether to continue subscribing or not. If it wasn’t for the compulsory adverts i’d skip through everything i’m interested in minutes. The free minis were great though. If firstplay came as part of playstation plus i might give it a go. Other than that i already have most of the stuff on offer for the first two months. Firstplay might be the nudge i need to subcribe to playstation plus….i certainly wouldn’t buy both.

Ive canceled my first play subscription. Just dont think there was as much content as i was hoping for.
Content i would like to see is NEWS. not just HD reveiws and previews but actual news, interviews you know groundbreaking exclusive coverage. etc etc. also exclusive demo’s need to be somthing other than american football. which BTW is not so exclusive if your in america. real shame on that front.
i think i would redownload as part of playstation plus, but as a stand alone application i think firstplay has already run its course for me. With playstation plus the latest issue could download and install automaticly so i dont have to worry about the hefty download. the downloading is more of a killer than the adverts.
let us know if this kind of content is coming
