The original echochrome ticked many of the boxes of what I look for in a game: it was original, visually striking and it got me using the corners of my brain that sometimes go neglected, particularly the ones in charge of logic and common sense. So I thought I’d share these details about echochrome ii from Kumi Yuasa, in conjunction with the US PlayStation Blog, along with an interview by my trans-Atlantic alter-ego, Jeff Rubenstein.
Hi everyone! As most of you have already heard, we will be coming out with echochrome ii later this year. It was announced at E3 and we’ve received a lot of positive feedback. For those of you who don’t know what echochrome ii is, here is an interview and demo with our team to show you exactly what everyone has been talking about.
Remember all the fun you used to have playing with shadows as a kid? Now you can bring back those exciting feelings of shadow art by utilizing the PlayStation Move motion controller and the PlayStation Eye camera! With its unique way of using Move controller as a flashlight, you will control light and shadows, rotate levels and change the way objects are viewed and the shadows they cast. The ultimate goal is to lead your character, that can only walk on the shadow, through the path from beginning to end. Beware, as there are hidden goals, jumping pads, holes, transporting elevators, and so on. Rotate the level itself to create a specific shadow – the possibilities are infinite and there is always more than meets the eye as every person can view each puzzle differently.
Also, echochrome ii features an artistic presentation style that fans of the franchise will recognize, however, this time with bold colors and lively music to put any player in the gaming mood. Players can also look forward to the new use of color, which gives hints to help players through the puzzles.

Sweet with a capital SWoah!
I love the first, it hurt my brain after a while though by the level editor was neat.
Very good use of the Move, hope to see more logical (and not gimmicky) uses in the future just like this!

I’m very excited about this too – it strikes me as the sort of thing I would play with my flatmates around me, yelling and pointing at the screen.
As for Move, feel free to come back with ‘you would say that’, but the more games I play the more I feel like it’s the best thing we’ve released for some time. It’s so accurate.

wasn’t a fan of the first game but the more Move stuff I see the more I’m tempted to buy one of the controllers, and then maybe some more for multiplayer.

Will europe EVER get the patch for echochrome that adds youtube support? U.S and Japan got it.

I can chase this up tomorrow but I’m fairly certain, this far after release, that it won’t happen.

This is by far my most anticipated (perhaps equal with the archery component on sports champions) move game that’s been announced. I played the demo for Echochrome and loved the concept but found the controls hard to manipulate quickly and accurately, but with direct control of a ‘light source’ I think it will work wonderfully. Does anyone have any idea how GT5 is going to have move implemented? I’m guessing for the photo mode, using it similarly as seen here.

Glad you’re looking forward to it. Haven’t heard anything about Move in GT5.

This really looks very nice. I’ve only ever played the demo of the first one, but I liked the concept. The best thing about this one though is the use of Move. It just fits it perfectly and looks like genuine fun.

This is a very cool application of the Move controller. Do you know yet if it will be PSN only and ready in time for the Move launch?
Also, while we’re on the subject of Move, do you know (or could you find out) if our Euro version of Eyepet will get a Move patch, or do we have to rebuy the game? At E3 that wasn’t communicated because they only talked about the US version, and for them it’s a new release.

Just checked for you – this is still being worked on but the current word is that existing EyePet owners will be able to download PlayStation Move compatibility for free.

are my comments invisible or something? i’ve been commenting on this blog for a year and a half and have only been answered once.

I’m trying to really clamp down on posters that don’t respond to many of your comments. All of you should start seeing more frequent responses from now.

I saw something like this on a indie game blog last year, Shadow Physics it was called, can see it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS81-aKx6Q0&f
and here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bb5DjyoDObA
Have echochrome just pinched there idea or are the two games connected somehow?

Since Echochrome got no support at all here in Europe (Try getting a customer service reply other than “We just the publishers, dont come to us for questions/problems with the game”) I will skip out on Echochrome II.
Yes, I am a little displeased with the echochrome 1.02 patch not being available here in Europe.
