Be The First To See The Karate Kid With Sony Pictures And See Film First

Countries:

Thanks to our friends over at Sony Pictures we have access to some preview film screenings for The Karate Kid on the 4th July.

The Karate Kid, 12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) could’ve been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother’s (Taraji P. Henson) latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying – and the feeling is mutual – but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre’s feelings make an enemy of the class bully, and kung fu prodigy, Cheng. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life. The Karate Kid officially release on the 28th July.

PlayStation Home: Aliens Abducting Cows!

Countries: , , , ,

Following on from the very busy week just gone, we have a relatively quiet week this week. For those who haven’t visited the E3 Booth space and watched the trailers found within, drop by tonight as the Booth will disappear tomorrow!

How is your team doing in the World Cup so far? Mine seems to think football is meant to played 10 vs 11… Anyway, arriving in the store this week we have a big selection of shirts for you to show your pride for your team. We have official team shirts from Umbro and Puma, and a range of interesting designs for the other nations.

Now that the Stuff store is open, we plan to stuff it full of interesting items. Last week saw the release of the Dice object; this week you’ll find a new item that’s out of this world. Place the Active8: Apartment UFO in your personal space and watch the aliens come to abduct cows.

The Playground store updates this week with more 80’s styled clothing for both male and female. We’ll have even more in the weeks to come, so keep checking back! Of particular note this week is the music playing Boombox, which allows you to bring the unique music found in the Playground to your personal space.

If you aren’t on that top ten leaderboard for the Iron Man 2 mini-game yet, you’ve only got less than two weeks left to set that score!

Landit Bandit

Countries: , ,

Hi Everybody,

Let us introduce ourselves and our little project Landit Bandit which will be available via PlayStation Store from 23 June 2010 for €12.99/£9.99.

We are five gamers that are commonly known as The Bearded Ladies. We started this tiny studio (in Trollhättan, Sweden) at the start of 2009. At that point not a single person in the team had worked on producing a commercial game, but the past year we have been lucky enough to live every hardcore gamers wildest dream; To make our own game for PS3.

The game itself, Landit Bandit, is a homage to several old classics such as Ugh!, Moonlander, CrazyTaxi and the ever entertaining Liero. It actually started out as a tool for rehabilitation of stroke patients, but that is a longer story for another time. Here is a collage of really old stuff and programmers art for now…

So we took something that looked marginally better then the above and made an entertaining splitscreen duel that we brought to the Nordic Games Conference last year. Our tiny indie booth had quite a few players battling it out during the conference and it just so happened that two of them were wearing Sony shirts. Before we knew it we were signed up as a third party developer for the PS3 and the project that was supposed to take 5 months and be PC exclusive had just turned into something completely different…

FIFA 11 At E3

Countries: , , , ,

Squirrelled away in the corner of the EA stand at E3 was a small room, and in the corner of that room, amidst screens displaying the latest Madden and NBA games, I got my hands on FIFA 11 for the first time.

FIFA 11 Nani

David Rutter from the EA Sports development team was on hand to take me through the playable build.

“As always with FIFA we’re looking to build on our success and refine the gameplay according to consumer feedback,” he said. “The two things we’re talking about today are Personality+, which is a holistic umbrella for how we’ve made individual players more realistic, and improved passing.”

He demonstrates Personality+ by taking control of Andrei Arshavin in the Practice Arena. As you would expect, his feet are quick and nimble, and the ball is never far from his feet. Conversely, when he switches to Sol Campbell, the player takes longer strides and has to push the ball further in front when dribbling.

FIFA 11 Arshavin

“The three areas in which we’re looking to convey personality are in the way the players look, their movement and their attributes, and we currently have more than 30 attributes in the game engine. We have also trebled the number of body types so we are able to support a wider, more distinct range of players,” he explains as we wait for a match to load.

“What we’ve also done this year,” he adds, “is respond to feedback that it was too easy to ‘ping-pong’ passes up the pitch, so we’ve included a far more believable passing simulation.”

FIFA 11 Ivanovich

There is now a power bar for passes along the ground with a small marker that tells you how hard you should hit the ball for the perfect pass. Missing it won’t affect the line of the pass, but it might mean at arrives at the feet of your target too slowly and is intercepted, or too fast, making it harder to control. You’re also penalised for trying difficult passes like a full 180 degree turn – your player will spin and make the pass, but he’ll more than likely fall over and lose accuracy.

The presentation over, I jumped on and beat an American journalist 6-0, with him asking me at one point: “which button do I press to score?”

Rutter promised more announcements towards the end of the year; I’m particularly looking forward to creating my own crowd chants, including this Kidderminster classic:

“We’re red, we’re white, we’re [deleted] dynamite, Harriers… Harriers!”
