DC Comics Explode On To PSP

Countries: , , , ,

Today we have some very exciting publisher news for you. From day one you’ve been asking for them. We don’t blame you, they have some of the very best content in the industry, and they even make comics based on PlayStation games! Ladies and gentlemen, drum roll please…..It gives us great pleasure to welcome DC Comics to the Digital Comics realm!

Digital comics Announcement

As of today you have access to an initial selection of over 80 DC Comics that can be downloaded from PlayStation Store including Batman: Hush, Green Lantern: Rebirth, Fables: Legends in Exiles and Planetary: All Over the World and Other Stories. In addition to these launch titles, you’ll get exclusive DC Comics content such as Superman/Batman, Resistance, Free Realms and God of War. Lastly, we’ve also released a free 10 page story today of Superman #700, as well as free downloads of Bayou, Fringe, Mirrors Edge, and Resistance.

We have been working long and hard to make this a reality and I am very excited to finally be able to tell you about it. Digital Comics is a long term project that we build on all the time through our weekly Wednesday releases. With DC joining us today, we have achieved one of our major milestones and are well on our way to delivering the vision that we’ve had for the service from the very beginning.

Of course, this is just the next step for Digital Comics on PSP and I can’t wait to tell you more about our plans. But for the moment, I hope you all give a big welcome to DC and keep on enjoying the service.

We are always keen to hear what fans want to read, so let us know in the comments section below. With over 1600 comics available on the store we hope there is something there for everyone!

‘Heads-Up’ PlayStation Store Update (23rd June 2010)

Countries: , , , ,

Welcome to what future civilisations may describe as something of a monster week of content.  I’m going to be modest and say it’s only slightly monster, but you get the picture; there’s a serious amount of content available this week (before anybody says otherwise, I have not been sitting on it all this time, I promise) :-)

Before we tuck into the main bulk of the update, there are new Special Offers available this week, with some monstrous PixelJunk related goodness on offer amongst other titles, and we also have a collection of Sonic goodies from SEGA on offer to help celebrate the blue one’s 19th birthday.  I asked if the spiky one was available to come to the blog to comment, but apparently he’s a game character and doesn’t actually really exist.  Shame.

So, onto the new content, let’s head straight into one of the most discussed games in these comment sections of late…The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, yes indeed it’s here at last.  Avast mateys!  Come and enjoy the piratey goodness that’s in store.  Classic gameplay, liberally covered with lovely new splashes of paint, and more Guybrush than you’ll know what to do with, sounds good right?

If you want more, then Battlefield: Bad Company 2 drops new supplies onto the front, with the new Onslaught Mode hitting hard and fast.  Adding new multiplayer co-op gameplay elements for you and three friends – thus meaning four players can test their skills across new maps – this is an explosive new addition for all you battlefield veterans out there.

Not enough for you?  Well then I hasten to add that we have the latest Sam and Max episode, retro based fun in the form of 3D helicopter adventure game Landit Bandit, Helghast additions to the world of Lost Planet 2 via the Killzone 2 Character Pack and much more besides.  There literally is too much for me to try and do justice to through my mere words…therefore, as usual, there’s a full list below.

One final thing to mention, Red Dead Redemption had its first piece of additional content hit the store yesterday in the shape of the Outlaws to the End Co-op Pack, so get downloading for more multiplayer fun in the Wild West…and even better, it’s totally free!

If you’re mean to me this week in the comments I will likely cry (which will probably happen anyway this afternoon if England get beat by Slovenia), so let’s just all bask in the glow of the global harmony the World Cup has brought and only trade compliments this week.  Deal?

Cheers all.

Coconut Dodge!

Countries: , , , ,

Hi folks,

I didn’t think I would be back here so soon, but we’ve been hard at work creating a free update to Coconut Dodge!

Coconut_Dodge_Update_Graphic

It’s essentially a Director’s cut, as we’ve had a bit more time on our hands to add extra polish and extra features! We’ve also listened to all the feedback you’ve given us so far, and implemented a bunch of your suggestions :-)

Here’s a list of the updates:

1) 3 Lives – This has been the most requested feature. The game is still a great challenge with three lives, and to reward you for playing the game without being hit, you’ll get 20,000 bonus points on levels 10, 20 and 30 if you manage to do it without being hit at all. So, the hardest of the hardcore will have the highest score :-)

2) Quit and Restart from Pause menu. This is something we wanted to do initially, but didn’t have the time. It’s now in all modes of the game (gave something away there!) and works as expected!

3) A different SuperTurbo run animation. It’s faster, with bigger plumes of sand, so that you can tell easier when you’ve activated SuperTurbo speed.

4) A subtle sound effect for SuperTurbo. Again this helps to distinguish SuperTurbo from regular Turbo.

5) Easter Eggs. We’ve added a few easter eggs for you to find! – they are things that have been requested from the community over at www.pspminis.com. They are very easy to find, you just have to look beyond the boundaries of Maze Master ;)

6) Level 10 Bug Fix. This one slipped through our QA and Sony’s QA because it is very rare. Sometimes Level 10 would have no coconuts in it at all. We managed to track down what was causing this bug after a few days non-stop play testing, and eliminated it! Yay!

7) Finally, two of the earlier mazes (from levels 1 and 2) are now featured in Maze Master, replacing mazes 6 and 13.

Get MAG Interdiction Tomorrow, Double XP This Weekend

Countries: , , , ,

Tomorrow is the day that MAG fans have been waiting for as our first major DLC, “Interdiction,” will be made available for purchase from the PlayStation Store for €7.99\£6.29.

If you missed our post detailing Interdiction a few weeks back, allow us to sum it up for you:

MAG Interdiction is a brand new game mode built for 128 players. In it, two rival attacking factions fight to gain control of three different command posts while using armoured convoys for every squad on the map (that’s right, 16 APCs onscreen at once!). To earn the victory, teams must capture and hold as many objectives as possible to increase their score while simultaneously decreasing their opponents’ score across three all-new “faction neutral” maps (Iron Creek Quarry, Lake Bayano Spur, and Sovot Motorway).

In addition to the new maps and gametype, Interdiction will also include the most powerful protection in the game, the “Heavy Improved” armour set, as well as a number of new in-game ribbons, medals and trophies. Here’s a reminder of what you can expect:

Ribbons

  • Jump Start – Capture 2 Command Posts in a round of Interdiction
  • Mowing the Grass – Get 10 kills with a vehicle turret in one round
  • Dashed Hopes – Destroy 2 mines with gunfire in one round
  • Cannonball Rally – Become an MVP (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) in a round of Interdiction

Medals

  • Roadside Assistance – Capture 10 Interdiction control points over your career
  • Landscape Architect – Get 50 kills with a vehicle turret over your career
  • BOD – Destroy 20 mines with gunfire over your career
  • Designated Driver – Earn 5 Interdiction MVPs over your career

Trophies

  • King of the Hills (Bronze) – Earn the Roadside Assistance medal while playing Interdiction
  • Red Ball Express (Silver) – Earn the Designated Driver medal while playing Interdiction
  • Road Runner (Gold) – Capture 3 Interdiction control points in a single round

As a special “thank you” to everyone who’s playing MAG this week, we’re also bringing back our popular “Double XP” promotion over the weekend. That means that whether you purchase our new Interdiction DLC or not, you can expect to grab twice as much experience for your battlefield efforts starting Friday, June 25 (at 7:01am GMT\8:01am CET). Just be sure to finish any game you start in order to benefit from the additional XP, as folks who leave a game early won’t receive the bonus. Our Double XP Weekend ends on Sunday, June 27 at 11:59pm Pacific Time (6:59am GMT\7:59am CET).

Oh, and one final note: All MAG players will have to download a small “Interdiction Activation Patch” starting today. It’s only 4MB in size and prepares your copy of MAG to be compatible with the Interdiction game mode. Again, Interdiction itself can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store for €7.99\£6.29 and weighs in at 440MB.

Thanks to all our fans for keeping us going these past five months – see you on the Sovot!
