‘Heads-Up’ PlayStation Store Update (7th July 2010)

As one more week passes by, one more week of fresh store content is here to greet you; don’t you love this routine we have. I set out our wares, and you come along and loiter in the aisles, and touch all the merchandise leaving fingerprints everywhere, and then go on your merry way. Sometimes you may even gently abuse me too. It’s all so familiar, and when I’m not around like last week I do miss it. So it’s a pleasure to be back this week.

Anyway, enough inane blathering, I suppose it’s time to follow on with tradition and list the new content, and give you my thoughts on the highlights this week (in no specific order).

The recent monkey loving continues with the release of Monkey Island 2, in all its shiny new glory. This new edition has a new lick of paint, but there is also a wealth of other goodies including the ability to toggle between the new version and the original version (to see just how shiny and lovely the new version actually is) and a fully fledged developer commentary featuring the original creators Tim Schafer, Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman reminiscing on the making of the game amongst other things. For fans of the classic series this is a great opportunity to rekindle your love, and for anybody who hasn’t played this classic game yet – firstly, what’s wrong with you? – secondly, get it now.

There’s something called a Resurgence pack for a title you may know called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, I believe it’s some kind of shooty game where you hurt people and then cackle manically down your headset, before giving them a teabag to rub in the humiliation. Ah, how I love a good FPS multiplayer session :D

There’s more additional content goodness in the form of Leliana’s Song for Dragon Age: Origins, and the Marvel costumes and level kit for LittleBigPlanet. We’ve also given the LittleBigPlanet section a late spring clean, and tidied it up, therefore making it easier to rummage through the goodies on offer.

Before, I steer you to the full list of all the content available, allow me mention that the latest batch of Special Offers will be available today too, so for the next two weeks you can grab discounts on some great content, including After Burner Climax, Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West and Half Minute Hero.

That’s enough hawking the wares for now, as usual if you so desire leave a comment and we’ll go from there.

Cheers.

When is the store updated? Is it still 3-ish because this is an awesome update & i’ll be downloading a few things :)

xYLeinen 7 July, 2010 @ 12:57 pm   2

Any release date on Shank?

Agamer2006 7 July, 2010 @ 12:58 pm   3

Hey mike, sad to see that ross isnt with you :(

You two should team up when doing store posts. You could handle all of the positive feeddback and leave the negative for ross to deal with.

You would be the perfect team :P

Not feeling this update this week.

Dear SCEE

Thank you for Monkey Island 1 and 2 :)

When will be available Tales of Monkey Island Full Episodes, which are already at PSS US?
Best regards.

Sincerely

VAMET

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:02 pm

It’s available, just not for all locales at the moment, it is coming to additional stores very soon though.

beardyweirdy 7 July, 2010 @ 12:58 pm   6

any chance of getting that DLC that came with God of War ultimate collection

pawelgr5 7 July, 2010 @ 12:59 pm   7

Hi Mike,

Is possible to buy Onslaught without BF 1943 (cheaper of course)??

Thanks and regards

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:02 pm

It was released individually last week, this week is the bundle version ;)

Nothing for me this week. Oh well I’m all geared up for Deathspank if it’s still coming next week?! :)

Oh and 5th time lucky *prays* Tecmo Bowl Throwback, EU release? There are European American Football fans you know!! :P

Thanks!! :D

budmuhnquai 7 July, 2010 @ 12:59 pm   9

Forgive me if I’ve missed something, but will future heads-up posts include what’ll be available to PSN plus members?

Looking forward to all the LBP goodies :D

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:03 pm

Yep, I’ll be adding the Plus content in at the start of every month :)

Chaosprower 7 July, 2010 @ 12:59 pm   10

Can sub-accounts holders buy PS+ memberships when they turn 18? Or are they denied access forever?

Rank_ftw 7 July, 2010 @ 12:59 pm   11

Hi Mike, just wondering if you have any news on Trinity Universe DLC. A batch came out in US both last week and yesterday and still we don’t have any here. Do you have a date listed there for EU release?

gazzagb 7 July, 2010 @ 12:59 pm   12

@Slarth I asked Mike on twitter, and he said 3pm. I will get the MW2 DLC today, looks great :)

FootieGamerUK 7 July, 2010 @ 1:00 pm   13

Are you prepared for the store to die due to the Resurgence pack?

StitchRFC 7 July, 2010 @ 1:00 pm   14

Can’t wait to download Monkey Island 2! I’ve topped up my wallet early because everyone will be trying to add funds at the same time for that MW2 map pack!

Toothball 7 July, 2010 @ 1:00 pm   15

Half Minute Hero is a great fun game. I’d pick it up at that price if I hadn’t already.

HoefMeistert 7 July, 2010 @ 1:00 pm   16

nice prize for After Burner Climax :) please do a Special Offer for PixelJunk Shooter and Joe Danger any time soon :)

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:05 pm

Joe Danger has only just released, it won’t be on offer anytime soon ;)

As for PixelJunk Shooter who knows what the future will bring :)

AlucardDHK 7 July, 2010 @ 1:00 pm   17

I’ve been waiting for a price drop in Fight Night Round 3. And now, my mandatory questions:

1 – Any news on additional territory releases of What did i do to deserve this My Lord!? 2?
2 – Can we ever expect OutRun 2006 in the PSN Store?
3 – And the Persona remake?
4 – Or Persona 3?

LDS30COMP 7 July, 2010 @ 1:00 pm   18

Mike,

Is there any section for looking at the Playstation plus stuff ?

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:06 pm

The top category on the store is called PlayStation Plus, I would start there my friend :D

MoneyMarko 7 July, 2010 @ 1:01 pm   19

This update is kind of weak. Just not enough content I’m afraid. Good special offers though.

Smileybonex 7 July, 2010 @ 1:01 pm   20

Picky comment time – For the Fat Princess, are you sure it’s the “Blue Avatar Bundle”, as in all avatars in it will be blue?

Other than that – amazing content yet again. Monkey Island and LBP costumes for me!

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:07 pm

I am sure yes, they will be the blue versions (red bundle was released last week).

Aurora_Bliss 7 July, 2010 @ 1:01 pm   21

Yay Monkey Island 2!!

And Vamet, Tales of Monkey Island is already out on the EU PSN x

mcwildcard 7 July, 2010 @ 1:01 pm   22

No Monkey Island II Demo?

*frowns*

Phoenix___24 7 July, 2010 @ 1:01 pm   23

Another lovely truck load of PSN content. Thank you!

iorkara 7 July, 2010 @ 1:01 pm   24

Still no Ridge Racer for my PSP Go.

omulos 7 July, 2010 @ 1:01 pm   25

Nice update today! Monkey Island II and Resurgence pack for me…

Must say I’m starting to think twice about purchase though since plus came out. Want to get Fat Princess while the DLC is on promo for plus users, but i’m worried that it’ll be offered free further down the line.

Mike, any chance you can pass on our concerns to those that matter? We really need to know what we are getting with plus or it has no value to the users the spend the most.

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:10 pm

I do pass feedback to the team looking after Plus about what content is offered, though it’s by no means my decision. It’s a balancing act about what to offer our Plus users, but it’ll definitely be interesting to see what comes down the line in terms of the store content offered within it.

BlueHeaven19 7 July, 2010 @ 1:01 pm   26

Still no decent avatars… Was really hoping for street fighter ones or the darkstalker ones that the american store got yesterday. Looks like I will have to wait even longer. :(

NuclearPenguin86 7 July, 2010 @ 1:02 pm   27

Nice update, Cod maps and Monkey Island!! Any news on Playstation+ offers? Are these updated weekly?

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:11 pm

All Plus content is made available at the start of the month.

vicheous 7 July, 2010 @ 1:02 pm   28

WHAT!! Nothing for + users today?? US Got more + stuff in there update :-(
Monkey Island 2 and BF VIP pack for me…

Oh and welcome back Mike ;-)

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:12 pm

The US content is not extra, it was stuff that was always part of their month one offering, but they didn’t announce it until this week. We’ve decided to make our Plus content all available at the start of the month.

Mightyowl28 7 July, 2010 @ 1:02 pm   29

does the LBP Marvel level pack have new trophies?

GrumpyMcGrump 7 July, 2010 @ 1:02 pm   30

hi mike,
any news on when psp essentials like phantasy star portable and naruto ultimate ninja heroes 2 are released?
and is half minute hero finally available in germany?

skele25 7 July, 2010 @ 1:02 pm   31

Sweet, monkey island 2 is a must buy. Mike, is there any news about Kane & Lynch 2 demo?

gr0undp0und 7 July, 2010 @ 1:03 pm   32

Any benefits for PSN+ plus members?

JordanBlack68 7 July, 2010 @ 1:03 pm   33

Yeah, any PS+ stuff, because the content so far has been really poor.

BiosNova 7 July, 2010 @ 1:03 pm   34

Hey Mike

Will we be getting any more PS+ content? Since USA got a fair bit added onto theirs yesterday.

nosakias 7 July, 2010 @ 1:03 pm   35

Any PS3 demos?

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:13 pm

You can trial Monkey Island 2, as it’s a trial and full game unlock.

flamingcarrot 7 July, 2010 @ 1:03 pm   36

Seems like a decent update. I might try out Afterburner Climax for £3.99

Dear Aurora_Bliss

“And Vamet, Tales of Monkey Island is already out on the EU PSN x”

Not in Poland PSS.
Best regards.

Sincerely

VAMET

AcidCrashX 7 July, 2010 @ 1:04 pm   38

Ooooh, Great sale items this week mate :D

Any particular reason we didnt get any new PS+ stuff today? I noticed the US got some last night and while I dont mind if you guys have different schedules or styles I’d just like to know how its being handled :)

Cheers Mike. Oh and I’m still waiting for that cuppa… :P

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:15 pm

We’ll make Plus content ALL available at the start of every month, I believe the US may release their content gradually over the month, though I could be wrong.

Agamer2006 7 July, 2010 @ 1:04 pm   39

Hmm thats a tough one.

Mike is great fun and posts alot more comments than ross, but Ross has the better avatar.

But which is better

There is only one way to find out “FIGHT”

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:14 pm

Haha…I’ll ask Ross if he wants to get into the boxing ring with me ;)

guybrush3_16 7 July, 2010 @ 1:05 pm   40

CozMick 7 July, 2010 @ 1:05 pm   41

Playstation Plus Subscribers in the US got more discounts this week, what about Europe?

Dutch_Rootsman 7 July, 2010 @ 1:05 pm   42

Hi Mike,

2 Questions:
*When is PSP Essentials coming to Australia and New Zealand?
*When will we start seeing more PSone classics on the Store? Specifics please! Titles and dates.

Thanks,

Dutch

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:18 pm

The full range of PSP Essentials will be made available later in the year, though some of the digital versions may crop up before then (a couple of the Essentials released today will be available for you to download).

As for more PSone Classics, I don’t have any confirmed information for any more in the pipeline as yet, but I’m sure we’ll see some more titles at some point.

Stratege 7 July, 2010 @ 1:05 pm   43

<>Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge…
Availability: All locales<>
Is it real? Not error or so? Is it going to be released in Russia? Is this also meant there is hope for 1st to be released in Russian store?

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:19 pm

It’s not an error, you will get Monkey Island 2 in your store :) As for the other Monkey Island titles, I have asked the publishers if they’re coming, so let’s see what happens.

Kotatsu2000 7 July, 2010 @ 1:06 pm   44

The US store got Persona 3 PSP yesterday, and we get…. nothing.

And still no sign of Disgaea Infinite either.

Nice work Sony EU, you’re really treating us Europeans with the same level of respect you’ve always done.

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:23 pm

All I can say right now, is until the publishers let us know when they are coming, if indeed they are, that we can share release dates I will let you know.

josiahpsn 7 July, 2010 @ 1:06 pm   45

Shall i, shant i, shall i, shant i, im so confused whether to buy the new Afterburner game with this excellent special offer reduction, why?, well i have PS+ and have no idea what’s coming in the next 10 months after the 2 month preview, so i might have bought this only to find out it will be offered free as part of my subscription somewhen down the line, they really need to rethink PS+ me thinks…any suggestions Mike?

MoneyMarko 7 July, 2010 @ 1:06 pm   46

When are some good downloadable games for ps3 coming? Minis are awful, ps classics are never released. It’s the same old add ons for little big planet, rock band etc *yawn*

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:23 pm

There are plenty of great PSN titles available, I’ll leave it for other posters to point you in the right direction ;)

Speedy245 7 July, 2010 @ 1:06 pm   47

Mike…. you know how i love you :) fancy giving me something cool for free (well was worth a try)
but seriously do you know anything about the posability of the net yaroze games coming to the store? or and dates as to when we could expect those amazing Dreamcast games

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:24 pm

Flattery can often get you somewhere, or something, but in this case…nah :P

seany1 7 July, 2010 @ 1:07 pm   48

Hey mike . Mate can you explain if you can why the u.s got more avatars and discounts added to their 1st month yesterday they have lots mire than we pay for now which us really unfair as we pay the most yet get a lot less. Also sf4 avatars mate

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:26 pm

I believe they’ve just split their month one offering over the course of the month, whereas we released it all in one go last week.

SFIV avatars should be coming, we requested them from Capcom a couple of weeks ago ;)

CNWLshadow 7 July, 2010 @ 1:07 pm   49

No Backlight Tango Down? When does the PSN get it?
Dam the 360- they already have it :(

    Mike Kebby 7 July, 2010 @ 1:26 pm

It is coming, just don’t have a release date for you just now.

Deak-in 7 July, 2010 @ 1:08 pm   50
