Deathspank. I doubt I’ll ever get to start another blog entry, or any other piece of writing, with that word again (even though it’s a made up compound word, it’s still a valid observation), so I’ll make the most of this. Purely on name alone, this game deserves to be played, however, it’s also a happy coincidence that it’s also a very nifty title. There is death involved, but as yet I’ve found very little spank action. What I have experienced though is a whole lot of fun and I cannot recommend this game highly enough.
Moving on, we have quite a lot of PSP action this week with new content released, as well as a new batch of PSP Essentials. Also, to celebrate the recent successes of our minis range, there are five new releases to get your teeth into too, and a new section on the store highlighting our most successful/favourites called ‘Thanks a Million’, so make sure you take a look.
For the rest, you know the score by now, take a look below, and then leave your insights, comments, and recipe tips in the comments section and I’ll try and duly respond as much as possible.
Cheers.

Do you know when, or if, Syphon Filter 2 will be coming to the EU stores?

Hey mike weak week but oh well.
Quick Question have you been given a date for Scott Pilgrim vs The World? Not saying you can confirm the actual date yet but is it the same time frame as America being the 10th of august.

@snoopdop: “You DON’T HAVE TIME to list all currencies ?! Why do you discriminate several regions and consider them inferior ?!?”
Even if he did have time, can you imagine what the blog post would be like with thirteen currencies listed after every item? It would be crazy! This is the price we pay for buying things in real currency instead of magic stars or whatever they use on other consoles.
306
Posted on 14 July, 2010 at 6:13 pm by cthulhu85
@298: There’s really no point of listing it in all the currencies. It takes you 1 minute to log onto the Store and check it out yourself. At least I’ve never seen the problem with that.
Weak update today Mike, but I guess that could happen once in a while. Keep up the good work!

is european PS+ is rip off compared to US PS+ ? if not then why are they getting what seems the better deal ? it might be a good idea of SCEA took over the European PS+.

Sorry Mike but this is one of the worst updates. I can’t wait for the summer to end so we can finally get some good stuff

‘DeathSlap’ looks like is will be a right laugh! Might just have to get that one. Please can you ask for more PS1 classics like Spyro, Twisted Metal, tomb raider and resident evil! pretty pretty please with sugar on top!

Hi
I have tried to download –
Xyanide: Resurrection (PSP) (was – £7.99/€9.99 now – £3.99/€4.99)
Its no longer on the UK store?
Why has it been removed?
312
Posted on 14 July, 2010 at 7:02 pm by Kotatsu2000
Another lame update means another week when I won’t even bother to turn my PS3 on. (let alone my PSO Go, that thing hasn’t been on in months)
Where oh where is Disgaea Infinite? It’s been out in the US for ages now. And where too, is Persona 3? Again, already out in the US. Microsoft have been doing simultaneous worldwide releases since the LAUNCH OF THE XBOX 360, but you guys still haven’t got a clue all these years later. Really quite pathetic.
Never mind though, I have my iPhone 4 which due to the PSP Go being such a total waste of space is now my portable gaming system of choice. Your loss Sony.

@312: iPhone 4…droooooool!

Still no fix for the price of Peace Walker too I see. Are you guys even aware you can buy a physical disc version from Amazon UK, including shipping, for HALF of what you are ripping people off for on the PSN store?
Does that make sense to you? Can you possibly justify it? Could it possibly tell you why the PSP Go is such a massive failure?
315
Posted on 14 July, 2010 at 7:10 pm by snap02-12
Shouldn’t this be the place where Users “meet” official voices? Doesn’t seem so, because you guy never comment on anything that criticises anything. PlayStation Plus? “Will forward that…” Why don’t you guys just post the INFORMATION you got when you forwarded our requests? We pay more for PlayStation Plus, yet we get the inferior product. When even Microsoft can release the same stuff globally the same day on Xbox Live, why can’t Sony? Why can Germany still not get 18-rated games… you guys never answer those questions properly… What’s wrong with you?

KZ3 trailer for me, hooray I guess?… When are the Street Fighter or Darkstalkers avatars show up here or are they never gonna do that?
Then again I could go ahead and figure out a way to order PSN network cards from US so I can bypass the problem known as SCEE and it’s rather awkward way of scheduling things.

I say it be called “Spankin’ o’ the dead!” and now we’re on the topic… I want a demo for Spankin’ o’ the dead!

yo mike
i even went onto the US store to try and find out what file size breath of fire 3 was but they don’t have it. But i did notice that next to the name of all there psp titles the file size is shown in bracketts. Is there anyway this could be done on the EU store. its seems like a good and simple feature.

I’m told by iFrit over on the Tomb Raider Forums that you don’t actually have the Tomb Raider classics submitted. I’ll try to get onto the people from Eidos who visit the forum because I’d love to see these games on the PSN.

Has anyone read @ http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2010/06/23/playstation-plus-explained/? It outlines and defines exactly what SCEE is offering and even offered two months of content schedule. So I’m confused why people signed up for Plus if they didn’t find the value compelling? Or is it simply that because SCEA is offering more so far, that now some of you want more too? Why not just ask for more content? Suggest it. So far SCEE is delivering on its promised content, the content they outlined and the content everyone consented to when they signed up.
327
Posted on 14 July, 2010 at 10:50 pm by bitbydeath
PSN+ is just not good enough. I would be fine with it if the US got the same amount of content as us.
At this rate we will need at least 4x the amount of content in the next update to be even with the US. But even then they will still get their weekly updates so to cover the next month as well it’ll need to be 8x the amount of content from the original month. Can you guys do that or will we keep getting shafted?
Your service offering really really really really sucks.
328
Posted on 14 July, 2010 at 10:54 pm by wiipass
@ 326 spydudefx
i guess we all got excited at first but soon afterwards realized that PS+ isn’t really worth it.i personally would have rather have kept the money & spent it on games rather than paying it to play some poor games for 12 months & get silly tiny discounts on selected “unpopular” games.
329
Posted on 14 July, 2010 at 10:57 pm by cybertaylor4
ps+ isnt worth it due to low content if ps+ users could buy content from other stores like us or jp sighn me up
330
Posted on 14 July, 2010 at 11:43 pm by SpyDudeFX
@328 I understand, but even the current SCEE offer is of great value. SCEE Team is working hard on your content, they developed exclusive Home content and exclusive SCEE only dynamic themes. I don’t know the exact pricing scructure for EU but doesn’t Plus pay for itself if you just count the two dynamic themes/avatars? It’s also really early in the product’s lifecycle, I think we will see more compelling content and offers.
331
Posted on 15 July, 2010 at 1:02 am by wiipass
tbh with you i dont really care about dynamic themes never paid for one & never will all i care about is playing quality PSN games, beta’s & getting decent discount on all PSN games not the current 10%-20% discount on selected ones (ones which doesn’t sell well).i will see how things go for the next 11 months but i really doubt i will be spending another £40 on another 12 months of PS+ subscription.i can play my games online for free & that all that matters to me & if i see a PSN game i like i will buy it out of the £40 i saved on PS+ subscription.
332
Posted on 15 July, 2010 at 1:59 am by Dante_Zero
@ 326
i get what your saying but then why did they both to outline it as i’m pretty sure SCEA didnt outline it and yet our american counterparts have ended up with much more including access to Hulu+ which im pretty sure will never go anywhere outside the US just like MLB coverage.
Last time i checked we lived in a global economy but SCEA and SCEE prefer to keep to their prospective markets instead of opening them up to everyone. Surely its daft letting say 10 million ps3′s access certain content out of 35 million instead of looking at it from the perspective of opening up services to all 35 million ps3′s and attracting new markets aswell as catering for exsisting markets.
mind you after 3 and half years nothing changes. One fool left the top SCEE position and was replaced with another one. Somestimes i dont know who’s worse at insulting peoples intelligence SCEE or Activision.

Posted on 15 July, 2010 at 9:19 am by Chr1zzly
Dear Mike, could you please tell the people responsible that it would be better if they add the trailers and screenshots the moment games come to the store. I think most people check them out when they are in the highlighted section.
A great game like Deathplank is released without a trailer or screenshots. These are added later, I know, but a first impression is everything. Why pay 12.99 euro if you don’t know if the game is any fun? Not everybody checks the blog daily.
Same goes for themes. You can call it the “Ultra super cool theme”, but if there’s no preview why would we buy it for 2.99 euro?
Just to help Sony

I keep seeing these lists of games being released as part of the psp essentials range and they include juiced 2 and secret agent clank, 2 games which currently arent even available on uk psn for psp, can someone confirm these 2 games are being released on the uk psn?

Right now I’m kicking myself for signing up for the European Playstation Plus service instead of the USA’s. Looks like we’re getting a raw deal once again with an inferior service that costs more.

I agree, i played SF 1 and 3 with pleasure 3 years ago. But I’m still waiting for the second one
and I want those PCengine and neogeo classics
And the videostore and the comic store…

Please SCEE release PlayStation One Classics – Resident Evil 1,2,3
Every other PS Store has them and iv been dying to get ahold of these games, can we get an update to atleast know if they will ever appear on our store
342
Posted on 16 July, 2010 at 10:09 am by JHips
Um yeah, so there is not a Deathspank demo on the Aussie PSN, don’t think I’ll be paying AUS$20 for a game I can’t even try to see how the controls works.
Seriously pull your finger out sony, US store has a demo, why don’t we?
Another reason people won’t invest in PSN Plus, discrepancies between PSN stores from USA and their own countries.
343
Posted on 16 July, 2010 at 2:03 pm by ggctuk
@ 342 – don’t hold your breath. Both SONY and the game developers hate region 2. When was the last time we saw a recognisable PSOne classic?
Quite frankly, it’s not tough any more to see why Nintendo still has hold of the handheld market.
344
Posted on 16 July, 2010 at 6:09 pm by JHips
@343
Or why Microsoft has the other market. hell the PSPgo shows sony’s commitment to handheld market, it’s all a bloody joke.
345
Posted on 16 July, 2010 at 8:12 pm by ggctuk
@ 344 – it’s no secret that I didn’t bother getting a PS3. I got an XBox360 because I did not wish to be shortchanged. I kept my PS2 because it actually uses the PSOne chip so it plays all PSOne games.

Someone who actually responds to the updates? Updates which actually have something I might want? Just seeing this makes me want to move to Europe! Maybe you can help find out what is going on for us over at the US blog because no one ever answers any of our questions week after week about the updates given.
348
Posted on 25 July, 2010 at 2:03 pm by jamescripps
Why is it that the USA’s Playstation store has so many more PS1 classics than our EU store? Will it ever be equalised? There are so many classics I would love to add to my collection on the US store that I just can’t get my hands on in Europe. I have spent over £3000 on my PS3 & games not including my tv & surround system. It’s us here in Europe that are supporting Playstation the most & we are the one’s that Playstation aren’t showing any love. I am not impressed!!
