Hi Everybody,
It’s my great pleasure to announce to you today that James Gallagher is now officially our new Blog Manager.
I’m sure you’ll all agree with me that James, over the last month, has been doing a fantastic job of updating you with the latest news from E3 and creating some original and interesting features. I particularly liked the build up to E3 with the reviews of the previous years. If you’ve missed these posts you can read them here
James comes from a journalistic background and has a high interest in games. He has been creating content for eu.playstation.com for the last two and half years.
When James applied for the job, I asked him what he would like do differently on the blog and he had some really good ideas; you can definitely expect more interactive content such as live chats and competitions. But above all, James will do his best to be at the start of conversations between you and PlayStation whether you read the Blog, follow us on Twitter or get involved on our Facebook fanpage .
Please join me in congratulating James for his new position and don’t hesitate to let him know what kind of content you’d like to see more of on the Blog.

Many thanks, there will be a lot more responses to comments from now on, from all authors. SCEE people that disobey will be destroyed.

Thanks everyone, perhaps you can help me with something? I feel like a new job warrants a new avatar but I can’t think of what to choose. Maybe you could post some links to images on the web to kick-start my imagination? It can be anything… within reason, of course!

Congratulations James.
I enjoyed the nostalgic look back you gave us with previous E3 shows.

Glad to hear it. I’m a sucker for nostalgia and intend to do more retro stuff on here.

Good stuff, especially like the sound of:

Yes, I looked at the headline and thought ‘aww, but I liked James’ then read the article and I’m really happy
Congratulation James, you’re doing great!
As for an avatar for your new position, perhaps something a la http://coop.deadsquid.com/images/SheriffBadge.jpg

That’s pretty funny! I was thinking about a crown but perhaps that seems a bit arrogant.

Congratulations James, just watch out for Mike making a move now you’ve moved up in the world ‘working more closely’ yeah right Mike! lol
And I think you should go for a Kevin Butler Avatar cos he is genious and represents what you are doing with the blog ‘connecting with the people in a non corporate fashion’
Here is an idea http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j145/Jvchequer/1687wh5.gif

Congrats James!
You are also responsible of the localized blogs? There are a lot of work on spanish’s blog to get at same level of this blog. I always question me where can I make my suggestions
Posted on 15 July, 2010 at 11:07 am by James Gallagher
Yes, I will be working with the local blog managers and I’d be really interested to hear how you think we can improve. You can post your suggestions in here.

Posted on 15 July, 2010 at 11:10 am by Sp4reNL
Well, it would be nice if the movies that are embedded in this blog worked with the PS3 browser.
Now it shows ‘application not supported’ boxes instead of movies.
Posted on 15 July, 2010 at 11:14 am by James Gallagher
That’s the first thing on my list of things to fix and I was actually hoping it would have been sorted by now, so I’ll look into it.

Congrats James, you already seem to be quite active on the Blog so let’s hope that continues – I wouldn’t expect you to compete with Mike ‘Comment King’ Kebby, but the odd reply here and there to show you are listening is always nice!
I look forward to the new ideas you’re planning to bring to the blog – the recent ‘Spot the Game’ competition Mike ran for example was a lot of fun (if a little ill-thought out in it’s execution!)
If I had a couple of suggestions to start with they would be:
1) Make the blog compatible with the PS3 browser, why continue to use Viddler if Viddler doesn’t work with the PS3? Either update the PS3 browser or change your provider, there are several others that work on the PS3.
2)Use Twitter a bit more other than simply posting links to blog articles, I find Twitter a much better way for organisations like SCEE to communicate with their customers rather than Facebook (but that’s mainly because I don’t use Facebook!). Also do you have a personal Twitter account or are you using the official one only? Oh and update the avatar, it’s currently the same to the SCEA twitter account and as I follow both it’s a bit confusing (it used to be white on black vs SCEA’s black on white)!
Posted on 15 July, 2010 at 11:23 am by James Gallagher
Mike is very good in the comments and I’m hoping that many more people in the company will follow his example. The competition we did was a lot of fun.
Your suggestions are actually two of the things at the forefront of my mind and a fix for the videos on the PS3 browser is very close indeed. I don’t use Twitter personally but I am going to keep on top of the @PlayStationEU account and be more proactive with that. It’s good to reach out and respond to direct questions from people, and retweet anything that catches my eye.

Cool. Hope to see it fixed soon.

FYI – JWplayer works on the ps3 brilliantly, and i’ve seen people doing video tests on Flickr (which might be handy to keep all the images and vids together) … i’ll check out Flickr in the browser and see what happens…
Worst come to worst, tell them the browser sucks and try and get Firefox on it
haha
Congrats Fella

Congratulations, James.
Are you going to manage all language blogs or each one has its own Manager and you are only in charge of the English one? It’s just curiosity, not that I want a change in the Spanish language (the other one that interest me) or anything.

Congratulations!
what would be good if this blog was comparible to the states. They have the share site. Also a response on twitter would be great. The states have protection plan, we have nothing and no one will answer me. I have more response from the guys in America than EU

@32 By far the best system boot-up ever, really gave you a sense of awe back in the day. I hate that the PS1 emulation on PS3 doesn’t show it

Thanks for the response James!
Content & feedback. This is the question. Content because a lot of post get not translated and store updates always get errors. Feedback because usually no one respond. Now, in the last 2 weeks these seems is changing, but we need more and more.
Also another suggestion, indicate text and voice language in PSN games in store updates. A lot of new games is not in our native language. We need know this. All retail games indicate this info in the box. Is a lot of work for Mike in this blog, but perhaps in the locale blog can be possible.
Ah, and a free theme of the world cup champion will be a good detail

James this is full of win. It’s always awesome working with you and I know the community thinks yer brilliant.
As for an avatar – our Fan Art regulars are amazing. They make all my stuff: http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/Fan-Art/bd-p/74
But you cant have a pumpkin. Sorry.
Posted on 15 July, 2010 at 12:30 pm by James Gallagher
That’s some excellent feedback, thanks. Translations take a bit of time and sometimes info comes in right at the last minute, which is why some content doesn’t cross over. However, we’re getting more organised now and this should improve. I also want to work with the local managers so that each blog has its own, original content that is tailored to its audience. Watch this (and that) space.

Welcome to the job James, in regards to suggestions, it’d be handy to be able to filter out comments that have replies, which could hopefully reduce repetition of questions on long comments threads. Maybe periodically update popular posts at the bottom to show the answers to the commonest questions?
Oh, and it’d be nice to see the PS+ icon included in the avatars of those of us who’ve forked out for the service
Posted on 15 July, 2010 at 12:15 pm by Emmanuel Orssaud
Hi mcwildcard,
Actually I’ll be back on the Blog next week to give you guys an update on new features that will soon be available on this Blog. Keep an eye on the posts next week and you’ll be pleased to know that some of your wishes will be addressed very soon
