‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update (21st July 2010)

PlayStation Store

Hello everyone – Mike has left me in charge again this week while he recovers from last week’s birthday celebrations. While I admit that this week the pickings are a little slim, only the pickiest pickers wouldn’t agree that the pickings that have been picked are… er… good.

The normal Special Offers are put to one side this time around as the PSN Store goes Karate Kid crazy – heaps of Kung-Fu content at a cut-down price to keep you all kicking and punching your way through the next fortnight.

So what else have we got? Well if you aren’t a Plus subscriber then today’s your first chance to get hold of the new Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days demo featuring a single player level casting you as everyone’s favourite balding psychopath, Lynch, and the option to try out the ‘Fragile Alliance’ multiplayer mode.

The anthropomorphic animal detectives, Sam and Max, return in the fourth episode of The Devil’s Playhouse: Beyond the Alley of the Dolls – remember you can still pick up the entitlement to the whole season from the Store and grab the previously released episodes too.

The second set of marvellous Marvel outfits fly, ride and ‘thwip’ their way into LittleBigPlanet and if you’re still clamouring for more modifications and doo-dads for your ModNation Racers karts, the Sheriff Sirloin mod makes his debut. Can a cow drive a car without opposable thumbs? Apparently it can – hooves are no barrier to power sliding.

All you Pinball Wizards will be pleased to know that the guys from Zen Studios have added a new table to Zen Pinball. This one is completely out of this world. No really, it’s set on Mars. Add to that the usual selection of Guitar Hero and Rock Band offerings, a couple of free Fat Princess wallpapers and a few new Avatars too.

For you PSP people, if you’ve heard all the good vibrations about Gravity Crash on the PS3 Store, you’re in luck – the game has made its way over to the portable system and you can grab it today. New levels kits for LittleBigPlanet and a new Celebrity-focused quiz for Buzz! Quiz World hit the Store today too. Finally, a quick special mention for the mini Young Thor, launching today – we’ve played it, we love it. Now it’s your turn.

As usual I’ll be here this afternoon to field your comments. While we’re a little light this week – we can only release what’s ready – you’ll be pleased to know things are looking pretty busy for Mike’s return on the 28th. Catch you later!

Garvity Crash for me!

Another Euro Store Update that fails to deliver again..

NeVeR__GoNe 21 July, 2010 @ 1:23 pm   3

ok good update

can u give us the Schedule of PS+ ???

AND PS+ US GOT THEIR plus today and they will get a Major update every month plus these Little updates every week

so there got more content then we do ??

thenks >> ^_^

netgrade 21 July, 2010 @ 1:24 pm   4

Where is the Hypperbaloide dlc for Portugal?

wanderingscotty 21 July, 2010 @ 1:24 pm   5

Sweet Final Fight, Double Impact for four quid. Can’t go wrong there.

aVirulence 21 July, 2010 @ 1:25 pm   6

Rather slim indeed! Ah well, let’s blame it on the (pending) holidays…

Is there any place where we find the available content for PS+? I know that we’ll get monthly updates instead of the weekly ones for the US, but will there be new content every first of the month? And will you announce updates for PS+ here?

    Ross McGrath 21 July, 2010 @ 1:27 pm

New Plus content is hitting the 4th August – there’ll be a blog post from James and we’ll also be listing the new content here as well just for convenience.

Sam and Max for me =] any news on whether Machinarium is coming to PSN? I need an excuse to buy that game again

And for PS+ ? USA have :

echochrome (PlayStation Plus price $5.00, original price $9.99)

Resistance 2 Skin Bundle (PlayStation Plus price $2.00, original price $3.99)

Hamsterball (PlayStation Plus price $7.99, original price $9.99)

Heavy Rain Origami Swan Avatar (Free to PlayStation Plus Subscribers)
File size: 100 KB

Bloody Escape Theme (Free to PlayStation Plus Subscribers)
File size: 6.1 MB

It’s not fair this service -_-

    Ross McGrath 21 July, 2010 @ 1:35 pm

The Plus managers here at SCEE are aware of disparity between the US and EU Plus offerings – rest assured your comments aren’t falling on deaf ears.

vicheous 21 July, 2010 @ 1:26 pm   9

ah only Sam and max for me nothing else… Hope next week will be better ;-)

AcidCrashX 21 July, 2010 @ 1:26 pm   10

Ace, nice update Ross, I’ll be grabbing some street fighter bits I think. See you soon dude

PS. get better soon Mike!

    Ross McGrath 21 July, 2010 @ 1:32 pm

He’s fine! Don’t forget that the Street Fighter 4 outfits will also work with Super Street Fighter 4, but the costume pack won’t have costumes for the new SSFIV characters.

Gambe1984 21 July, 2010 @ 1:26 pm   11

not the best update in the world, “suppose” ill download the K&L demo, lets just hope its infinately better than the embaressment that was the first Kane and Lynch title. Might consider Final Fight now its on offer too.

Ross – quick question – anything on any possible news that trine may hit the special offers? Wanna buy it, but i have it on steam and I cant justify spending £8 on it again, lol!

    Ross McGrath 21 July, 2010 @ 1:33 pm

Trine has already been in one round of Special Offers quite a while back, but then that doesn’t mean it won’t ever be on offer again. Mike and I will look into it.

Roxas598 21 July, 2010 @ 1:27 pm   12

Damnit nothing for me again :(

Need RPG’s for the PSP!! *sad panda*

Also ross let the store team know what an awesome job they did with the kane and lync early demo*

*included sarcasm xD

    Ross McGrath 21 July, 2010 @ 1:37 pm

Hey it didn’t go so badly did it? We’re still testing the water. Anyway if you’re after a PSP RPG, Breath of Fire 3 and Generation of Chaos are both in the Essentials range. Give them a go if you haven’t already.

Forsinain42 21 July, 2010 @ 1:27 pm   13

Might get Street Fighter Alpha Max 3 but not much else. And where is the Kevin Butler theme??!

Who else wants one! XD

Neo-Renzokuken 21 July, 2010 @ 1:27 pm   14

Special offers this week is epic. Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection and Mortal Kombat 2 I’ll be getting.

Any more PS1 classics coming soon? I hope that more are added from the Sony’s own back catalogue.

    Ross McGrath 21 July, 2010 @ 1:41 pm

    PSOne Classics, eh.
Things are looking up on that front. Nudge nudge…

DreamyElf 21 July, 2010 @ 1:27 pm   15

i would kill for some FFXIII avatars…
a chocobo perhaps? :)
nothing for me today…

Tridentmorph 21 July, 2010 @ 1:28 pm   16

As you say, not a great week but glad to see I can get a bit more Sam and Max action, also will pick up Final Fight – been waiting on that to drop in price.

Any news on when we will be getting an update on the PS+ offerings, I see that yet again over the pond in the States they picked up even more free stuff and some decent discounts – they are getting a much better deal for the subscription than us poor Euro cousins.

ChrisandJulie 21 July, 2010 @ 1:28 pm   17

Yet again, another terrible update. Especially for PSP Owners.

Yet again, I have to wait until next week for something worth buying.

ZOMG PETZ MY BABY HAMSTER INSTANT BUY (note the sarcasm)

wardragon989 21 July, 2010 @ 1:28 pm   19

Just wondering…is update for PSN Plus next week?

lardteamaker 21 July, 2010 @ 1:28 pm   20

Any news on The Predator course for tiger 2011?

    Ross McGrath 21 July, 2010 @ 1:45 pm

It was pushed back but I think you’ll be seeing it next week.

vicheous 21 July, 2010 @ 1:28 pm   21

“you’ll be pleased to know things are looking pretty busy for Mike’s return on the 28th”

Cool! Right after my Birthday, can i get something for free?

Yaskael 21 July, 2010 @ 1:28 pm   22

What happened to the “real psone classic” that was supposed to come out this week that you promised to us.

    Ross McGrath 21 July, 2010 @ 1:46 pm

I promised you no such thing! One of my favourite PSOne games EVAR will be along in the next few weeks though. I’ll leave you to speculate what that might be.

Chaosprower 21 July, 2010 @ 1:28 pm   23

Hi Ross, today is my birthday, and I’m turning 18, and PS+ now appears in the store for me! Does this mean I can buy it even If I’m using a subaccount?

This week’s update is a little weak, Sam and Max Ep.4 for me.

chalky83 21 July, 2010 @ 1:29 pm   24

@#2 – it can’t be great every week, if publishers aren’t delivering the content then Sony can’t put it up!

identity25 21 July, 2010 @ 1:29 pm   25

I usually don’t complain but the reason I look forward to coming here every fortnight is for the special offers! To not have an proper ones is ridiculas, another 2 week wait now!

Also since when has Petz: My Baby Hamster been an essential psp game to own! The first lot of essentials really were must have games, the newer ones plus ones ive seen on Amazon yet to be released on PSN are just random games!!

Any news on Pinball Heroes Bundle 2?

    Ross McGrath 21 July, 2010 @ 1:55 pm

I’m sorry if you haven’t discovered the joys of looking after digital Hamsters but I bet you haven’t tried it. It might well be essential to someone!

I appreciate the Special Offers are PS3 biased this time around but you’ve got a good number of cut-price PSP Essentials to keep you busy for the next couple of weeks, right?

The new Pinball Heroes pack will be arriving in August.

Gambe1984 21 July, 2010 @ 1:29 pm   26

@8 – Has the PSN service ever been fair to european users since its launch? We have to wait for everything near enough, I mean how long was SSFT HD delayed for in europe, must of been a good 6 months, not to mention they get full retail titles on there store, the only one I think europe has is Burnout Paradise (Which isnt even on the store at a platinum price).

You expected PS+ to be any different, hence why i refused to pay for it.

    Ross McGrath 21 July, 2010 @ 1:52 pm

We also have Warhawk and SOCOM COnfrontation – more to come. And I think you’ll find you can get Burnout Paradise and ALL the DLC for the ridiculously low price of £21.99 and have been able to for some time.

Yet again u.s get more psn plus reductions and free avatars and themes and yet again scee act like it’s totally fine for eu to pay more for a service and get a lot less . Enjoy trying to get people too support you in future projects if this is way you guys blatantly kick eu users in the gut time after time .

loxapac 21 July, 2010 @ 1:30 pm   28

No special Offers for PSP :(

Munders12 21 July, 2010 @ 1:30 pm   29

Please make the US and EU services fair! It is ridiculous how we pay more and end up with less!

thekeats1999 21 July, 2010 @ 1:30 pm   30

Well that’s an awful update. One PSP game and i have already completed it. Where are the ps one classics. The older PSP games. At least i have persona 3 on it’s way. I really feel sorry for people with a go. Probably the worst supported format in existence.

justSamurai 21 July, 2010 @ 1:30 pm   31

Young Thor, Gravity Crash and Final Fight Double Impact for me.

poultee 21 July, 2010 @ 1:31 pm   32

Hi Ross.

Any idea on when these themes will be released?

http://videostore.uk.playstation.com/theme_listings.html

been advertised on the site for months now and cant seem to find them on the store?

    Ross McGrath 21 July, 2010 @ 1:58 pm

    Heya poultee,

The Dark Knight and Harry Potter themes are available under the Premium Themes section on our Store.
South Park isn’t quite ready yet but won’t be long now.

SirGashOfFlange 21 July, 2010 @ 1:31 pm   33

I agree with NeVeR__GoNe, we really need weekly updates and offers for PS+ members.

Not only will this be better for us, but it should reduce the bandwidth on your servers by splitting the content across four weeks rather than have all members trying to download everything on the same day (not to mention the regular PSN store updates by non-members)!

As members, we should also have access to dedicated servers. I downloaded the Kane & Lynch demo on Monday (1.5GB) which took around 35 minutes, I have 50Mb broadband and can download 1.5GB in no more than 5 minutes from most sources, PS servers are way to slow.

Chrisalddin 21 July, 2010 @ 1:32 pm   34

hi!

Trinity Universe DLC
when do we get to see this!
i read that USA had it when Trinity Universe come out over there!
Trinity Universe been out here for a long time now as we got it befor the usa did! so can we get the DLC now?

    Ross McGrath 21 July, 2010 @ 2:00 pm

The Trinity DLC is definitely coming in the not so distant future.

ROBERTWARNES 21 July, 2010 @ 1:32 pm   35

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories?

Toothball 21 July, 2010 @ 1:33 pm   36

Another disappointing week to be a European gamer. Still hundreds of UMD games yet to appear, and plenty of PSOne Classics that have yet to make their way over from the US.

Chr1zzly 21 July, 2010 @ 1:34 pm   37

Deathplank demo?

Danlisa 21 July, 2010 @ 1:34 pm   38

Extended lunch for the new guy? :) Cut it a bit fine with the update, eh?

Anyway, nothing much for me this week, perhaps I’ll get the new table for Zen Pinball and I’m a little saddened to see no Death Spank demo.

kingkrunch456 21 July, 2010 @ 1:34 pm   39

Aside from Sam & Max, it’s a bad update. Everything worth getting in reductions has probably already been bought by everyone so what’s the point? And on a side-note, PS+ needs to be sorted out. The US have once again beaten you silly SCEE

Hi Ross, heard Earthworm Jim HD was meant to be released this month. Any news on when it’s coming to the PSN?

    Ross McGrath 21 July, 2010 @ 2:01 pm

I was supposed to be released this month you say? Well if it was supposed to be released this month then it will be released this month.

johnleonhart 21 July, 2010 @ 1:36 pm   41

Hi Ross, nice update, think I’ll get Tekken 5 Dark Ressurection and Revenge of the Wounded Dragons this week, maybe Rag Doll Kung Fu too if the wallet agrees :P

Cheers and give my regards to Mike and the team :)

KaiserSoza13 21 July, 2010 @ 1:36 pm   42

Where are all the PS1 games,we are in the summer drought period now so give us some classic Sony gaes to play again, Tombi and Tombi 2 would be great.

GrumpyMcGrump 21 July, 2010 @ 1:36 pm   43

where is phantasy star portable as a psp essential? it’s already been released in stores for weeks now but not on the playstation store…

and will kingdom hearts birth by sleep be released on the playstation store? if not it would really suck for all go users…

Devilater 21 July, 2010 @ 1:36 pm   44

Why are we not getting any PS+ content ans USA are, what have we ever did to you not deserve equality?

spatsnaz 21 July, 2010 @ 1:37 pm   45

Just Sam&Max for me this week.

Thanks for the update, Ross.

AaronSOLDIER 21 July, 2010 @ 1:37 pm   46
