Before we get into the bones of the update, there is some meat to attend to first (I apologise for the analogy used there). I’m referring to an addition being made to the store via the Firmware update 3.41 that appeared yesterday.
Firmware update 3.41 adds recommendations for games on PlayStation Store, so when you’re browsing the description details of a title, you’ll also see an additional “You May Like” section. This section will list additional items based on purchases of other users … how you’d expect a recommendation system to work really. So you’ll start to see great titles that may have passed you by, or that you’ve forgotten about, therefore adding another dimension to your store experience – more peer power!
Please note that while the 3.41 update has been released, the recommendations feature on PlayStation Store is slated to go live by the end of July.
Okay, now onto the content this week:
As you can see from the above image an old friend returns (for the first time on PlayStation since 1995); Earthworm Jim HD is a remake of the old classic – which I may add was hard as nails, I never actually completed it – and features all the old favourite characters and levels, but now comes with added HD shininess, additional levels and a multiplayer mode. I for one am I very excited, and will be doing my best to actually complete it this time!
We have two additions to the PSone roster on the store; Pong and Rayman 2: The Great Escape. I know it’s been quite a wait to get Rayman 2 onto the store, and we’re very pleased to say that it’s now available, so grab your copy and help Rayman defend his world against the pirate invasion! As for Pong, you know what to expect and it needs no further explanation really, other than this version (originally released in 1999) comes with 3D graphics and power-ups.
That’s not all for PS3 though, we have the Madden NFL 11 demo for instance as well as much more; I refer you to the full list below for the full details.
As for your PSP needs this week there are two Harry Potter games available, a demo for Worms: Battle Islands, and four new titles added to the Essentials range. Not forgetting the three new minis that are also available.
As ever, leave your comments and I’ll be around to address what I can.
Cheers.

and here we see, another bunch of people who think SCEE can magically make ps plus like the US in 7 days….
I think SCEE was surprised like us, when they saw the US-content…
Let’s be sure SCEE are working on it…
Well everyone who thinks SCee aren’t working on it… should I say the word? …maybe… fatalistic?

I assure you I am passing on feedback and using what little influence I have

I don´t buy Stuff on the PSN anymore. SCEE is blaming Users with this Plus Situation. Im really really pissed off, and every Heads Up Update i got more and more pissed off.

Loving the update mike, quite a few things I shall be picking up later on.
But did you hear US are getting our Disney games, soon we will have nothing to brag about

Have to agree with everyone else. No PS+ content again. I was with the monthly vs weekly of the US and Eu but that’s beyond a joke. THey’ve got new games every week and while PS+ is still good, compared to SCEA’s version ours is utter crap.

Uncharted 2 new avatars not for us YET?

The Earthworm Jim is cool!
The Playstation Plus really needs to step up!
I mean I talk to a few friends on the other side of the atlantic and when I mention what we had for plus, they thought I was joking… I’m starting to regret my decision.
AND to make things worse, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 DLC return will probably stay by the US Store only…
And how I’m supposed to play with the people who have the DLC, by downloading a compatibility pack that is in the PSN, but it’s not… I’m not accusing the SCEE or the Activision, but whoever fault it is, it’s a big screw up.

I will continue to post every week the disparity between the two stores until something is done about it. Are you not concerned that your customer base is turning against you & not applauding you for you hard work?
Posted on 28 July, 2010 at 12:41 pm by Mike Kebby
I have already collated a full list of the content offered by both regions and passed it to the Plus team. When I say I am passing feedback on, believe me I am.

Mike,
Do you have any idea why a firmware update like this one is mandatory?
I don’t get it. At least you should still be able to log in to PSN, play your games and (try to) use the webbrowser with the previous FW.
Maybe if you try to go into the store the FW would be required, but it is still strange for this to be mandatory.
Or does it also include hidden (security) patches?
And think I’m going to try Earthworm Jim HD

Re posting this because of it awaiting moderation =\
mike when is the next blog post from the PS+ team?
you might want to pass on that they need police protection for the next post after the continued appalling treatment =\ (not going off on you)
also do you know the price for infamoos full download next week?
and 1 last tiny little thing…persona 3 is there a date in your magic book?
Posted on 28 July, 2010 at 12:47 pm by Mike Kebby
The Plus offering will be listed in next week’s store update (I fear for Ross as he’s doing it, as I’m on holiday next week), but the Plus team may be posting too, though I’m not 100% sure.
As for Persona 3 I am hopeful we will see it, though I’m waiting on confirmation from the publisher, so if I find out anything specific I’ll let you know.

There is 4 weeks in a month not 5!
We should get the PS+ update this week!
SCEA has always been, and will be better with their services, exclusives, offers and pretty much everything!
This is really annoying us, EU and Middle East gamers.
You should keep up with SCEA services!

Yes im really disappointed about PSN+ too
,how is this game mike?
But i can’t wait for Premier Manager
I loved LMA Manager on ps1 hehe, maybe we could get it sometime?!
67
Posted on 28 July, 2010 at 12:21 pm by CookieMonsterES
To be honest the US PS+ may be better than our PS+ service, but it’s also true that we have MUCH more and better special offers than them, that’s something people seems to forget… and I’m pretty sure the Euro PS+ team will surprise us with the coming content pretty soon. They are working on it cos they are already sending surveys to improve the service.
Anyways, for anyone who can help me here, the costumes in the “Street Fighter IV Complete Alternative Costume Pack” are also included in the “Super Street Fighter IV – Super Complete Alternate Costume Pack” or are they different? I think it’s the latter but I want to be sure.
And finally, any news on the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 DLC, Mike?
Thanks in advance.

Can you give us some info about Premier Mangaer Mike? Such as is it a full PS3 game, is it from the start of last season, and does it have trophies? Or is it just a mis-print and is that old game on PSP. I’ve been waiting for a PS3 manager game for ages but I don’t exactly have high hopes for this.
And I hate to jump on the bandwagon but the people complaining about Plus are right. Next week I’ll be getting Zen Pinball and some old Motorstorm DLC, then I’ll sit here for a month watching over the pond in envy as they are showered with goodies.
Plus corrupted data will continue to download to my HDD with the wonderful automatic download feature.
Posted on 28 July, 2010 at 12:49 pm by Mike Kebby
It’s a new game for PS3, and does have trophy support yes. I couldn’t say anymore than that as I haven’t got around to trying it yet.

Hi Mike,
Not a bad update, will defo be purchasing Earthworm Jim HD,also nice to see a psone classic hit the store.
I think the reason why people ae moaning about the US getting more content for PSN+ is because we were under the impression that they were getting their content weekly and ours monthly, but it seems that the US are getting their large content in one go and also other content throughout the month, which we don’t get. If you could pass on this feedback, it will be much appreciated
Thanks

It’s great to see some more PSOne Classics appear, we really need to catch up with North America and Japan with the quantity and quality of titles. Any news on Silent Hill reappearing after being removed last year? Of course, there’s also Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, Final Fantasy Tactics, Tekken, Parappa, UnJammer Lammy, Gex…
74
Posted on 28 July, 2010 at 12:23 pm by Wraxend
Meh never played Jim when it first came out so no real appeal as i suppose its more for the guys who rembered it and i haven’t read to many great things about it. Demo would have helped with this apart from that absoultly nothing to buy really. Very tempted to get a Xbox slim at least they have the summer of arcade and Limbo looks oh so amazing. Why doesn’t sony make sure there are games ready for the summer on the PSN as its the quite period for retail game releases.
Posted on 28 July, 2010 at 12:50 pm by Mike Kebby
There is a trial (the game is a trial and unlock) available, and I urge you to give it a go…it’s very good fun

Since you “do appreciate everybody’s frustrations” I shall add mine.
I fell like I’m getting ripped off. I will change to the US PSN+ subscription once my EU PSN+ subscription is finished. I guess it’s still a win for Sony but it’s hard to support SCEE when SCEA is always cheaper and better.

If you cannot answer everyones questions on PS plus then can we get someone who can. This is really infuriating.
Sony are robbing us blind here.

This post is NOT about Plus it’s the STORE update.
You’re all asking about Plus in my update about the Store, so whilst I’ll answer what I can, I’ve never once said ask me about Plus have I?

OK, I’m going completely leftfield now to help Mike out with his reply count this week
Any chance the PSP Essentials titles can be added to the A-Z on the MediaGo store? Makes them harder to find
@ Persona 3
Unless another publisher or Atlus themselves want to publish the game, it’s not coming at all. Mike can’t force Atlus into it. Though I hear rumours they may be trying to get Persona on the store (seeing as it’s PEGI rated)?

hahaha PSN PLUS subscribers in the USA are all saying there happy to be a PLUS subcriber. Then you look at Europe and everyone hates that they paid more than the americans for less content????WHAT!!!
50 DOLLARS=38.36 EUROS
We have to pay 50 EURO
50 EURO=65.1650 DOLLARS!!!!!!!!
Now thats where i draw the effing line.

I saw a guy get hit by a bus the other day, he was ok, a little shaken up but i rang the ambulance because his girlfriend was histerical and I told everyone to give him some space. When he was in the back of the ambulance getting treatment, his girlfriend thanked me for being so calm and collected and “saving his life”. Then i asked her out, but she said no.
Nice update, shame my playstation got stolen by pikies.

I think we should give Mike a break here guys :/ The US store is far worse than ours. Mike and the team have done a great job over the last 12 months or so.
Posted on 28 July, 2010 at 12:54 pm by Mike Kebby
I appreciate the sentiment Suzzopher, though I don’t think you’ll get many people agreeing that our store is better than the US. Though we’re doing what we can to improve our service.

Mike, any idea when Top Gun is coming to PSN and a price for it?
Also, last weeks firstplay didn’t work on my PSN account and had no option to download, will it be fixed after todays store update?
And another decent PS1 game finally (rayman 2), but the US has had it for ages.

Hi Mike,
still no news on the MUA2 dlc then i see… activision’s web site states that it’s only a north america release but it’s available on the uk xbox live site. so what’s going on?
no one seems to want to say anything or own up to the fact that the UK and the rest of Europe are being let down by someone who, it seems, couldn’t give a monkey’s about us.
properly disappointed by this all. can you sort it out or at least find an answer. i know i’m not alone in wanting this!
cheers

This is getting more and more ridiculous every week. We pay about 30% more for the service and get.. dunno… 60-70% of content NA is getting? Maybe less. I was looking at it for like 2 weeks now and I think it’s time for some official statement from SCEE at least – something need to be done, because more and more people just feel cheated. I understand that service is in development, but why development in NA is twice as good as one in Europe? Like come on – can’t we even get God damn themes?

Prett much agree with everyone here regarding PS+ content. US has gotten double the content we have had, and continue to get more content on a weekly basis allmost.
Sadly I’m in it for the long haul as I foolishly paid for a years subscription… I sure as hell will not be renewing if we continue to be treated as we are, compared to the other PS stores…
This needs addressing and addressing fast, People will stop subscribing if they are not happy, keep that in mind…

Thanks for the update Mike! I’ll be buying earthworm jim, it was the first game I completed alone in my sega mega drive when I was a kid (I always asked my dad for help).
And thanks for transmitting our complaints about plus to the relevant people, I’m quite disappointed with this situation(I’m a plus member).

Hi Mike,
Just a few quick questions…
1. The Avenged Sevenfold DLC pack costs €5.29 however the three tracks together only cost about €4.50…
2. Is there much more DLC planned for Tiger Woods 2011? I was looking forward to buying it but I have held off because of the ammount of quite expensive DLC that to me makes it look like an incomplete game considering most if not all of these courses have appeared in previous games…
3. We are aware that you are aware of the disparity between EU and US PS Plus content, but do you know if this is going to change? I realise you have passed the info on but can you give us any indication something will be done about it and soon? I bought a year sub because I am loyal to the PSN and was expecting great deals, but the disparity is so huge I may go to the US Store next time…
Thanks Mike!

1. That’s a price typo in my post, my apologies. It’s actually £2.49/€3.99
2. I think there may be some more coming yes.
3. I don’t know if it is going to change, but I’m sharing my thoughts, and all your feedback as much as I can.
Cheers

I didn’t even know this page existed http://uk.playstation.com/psn/games/coming-soon/ !
Might be worth the SCEE staff that work on the blog doing articles on this ?

Earthworm Jim!!! Oh Mike, youre a such a fine gentleman
Thanks so much for this classic in HD, will be buying this as soon as I have some spare change.
Mike, I know this is not your fault, but even I am starting to get a tad frustrated at the offerings the US are getting on PS Plus, please keep pushing the feedback to the appropriote departments as it is looking unfair from an EU point of view.
Cheers again. Cya next week

I agree with moss022, if you know what little/late content we get on EU PSN and forked out £40 for plus, you’ve only yourselves to blame.
