We’ve long said that MAG is an evolving game, one that changes and improves over time thanks in very large part to your input. The most direct example of this is our Influence MAG program, a player-driven design decision where you can vote on various MAG game elements and tell us exactly what you want.
Our first Influence MAG effort generated a ton of interest from fans when we asked if you wanted to change the time limit for Domination matches. You voted with a resounding “No!“, so we kept the timer clocked at 30 minutes, just as you told us to.
This time around we offer another simple question:
Should leaving an in-progress game count as a loss on your record?
Now, to be clear on what you’re voting on, this is a measure to combat people who would otherwise “bail out” right before the end of a game so that they don’t lose the round. Keep in mind that if we were to implement this system, it would also affect the Win/Loss records of people who accidentally disconnect from games as well.
Now that you’re informed of what you’re voting on, here’s the fine print:
- The winning answer must have 60% of the overall vote for two-point questions.
- The winning answer must have 55% of the overall vote for three-point questions.
- If no answer has the required % then there is no status change.
To vote, simply head to the MAG blog and vote in our official poll. It will remain open until 11:59pm Pacific Time on August 10, 2010. Once the poll ends, we’ll tally up the results and modify the game accordingly sometime thereafter.
So there you have it. Should disconnects count as an automatic loss or not? It’s completely up to you.
Let your voice be heard and vote right now!

Yeah, I’m sick of having half a squad just leave, especially when you’re defending.

I voted yes, real disconnects are a kind of rare thing for anyone with a decent connection, but people that leave just to protect their record shouldn’t be able to get away with it.

Defiantly yes. I can’t stand it when my whole squad leaves once the opposite team has a slite advantage over us.

I vote yes, although you will have to bear in mind potential exploiters who will use this to add to there lose x number of game statistics/medals.
Make it count for a loss if they have been in the game for >50% of the total round time (more than 15 minutes for domination etc)
It is also annoying to join a game and get put into an empty slot with less than 5 minutes remaining to suck up the loss that someone else quit on… (or on a very very rare occasion a win…)

Upon a player’s disconnection, an inquest should be carried out. Their premises will be searched, and a full background check will be conducted. They themselves and witnesses will issue a full statement of their actions that day. They will then appear before a hearing which will decide their fate.

All you voting yes know that being kicked , disconnecting or the game freezing will then give you a loss.
NO from me.

If your team is winning it should not count as a win or loss, but if your team is losing or scores are tied it should count as a loss… It’s easy for a server to tell if a player has disconnected themselves, so why not add “times player self disconnected” count to stats?
Personally i think the above system should be present in all online games… if you can see a player is a repeat disconnector then you’re less likely to have them in your team/clan…

NOOOO!! check my win loss record… i never disconnect on purpose cuz got enough losses but there are plenty players that get disconnected out of a game for no reason while all other internet is still working you just have to log back in mag… if that would count as a loss every time then your stats just depend on how lucky you are that you dont get kicked out of the game server…i have seen many disconnectors ( who get kicked off mag not the internet ) who instantly reconnect to mag and rejoin the game even when losing so otherwise all those players would constantly get double losses…
its bad enough you lose the 10% extra XP when mag disconnects you 5 seconds before the game ends and you lose the grim reaper ribbons now counting everything as losses would just F it up i just hope the voting ends in a resounding NO

Should leaving an in-progress game count as a loss on your record?
YES.
Anyone who did not complete the game cannot have won it, so it should count as a loss in a binary win/lose system. The only real alternative is implementing a ‘Did not finish’ third option.
