I never expected the whole season of Sam & Max to be included for free, that is a great deal. Once again though it’s a kick in the teeth for people that buy PSN games at launch. I think PS+ will start having a negative effect on sales of new games as people will start waiting for them to be included in PS+.
The system needs changing in my opinion, each month we should be given the option to choose 1 free PSN game from a list. That list should include at least 1 brand new PSN title so the people that buy a lot of PSN games can definitely get something they haven’t already bought.

“So people really care about PSOne games? Seriously?”
Yep. Mostly play them on the PSP, but I do play the occasional one on the PS3 as well.

And just like that, September’s content completely justifies my subscription to PlayStation Plus. What a great line up of content, thanks for sorting that one out ^^. I almost feel like I’m stealing from you I’m getting so much I wanted, heh.
James, I’m sure you are aware that some Plus subscribers are now wary of buying new games on the Store as they are worried they may end up getting them for free as part of their subscription during one of the following months. Do you have any ideas as to how to combat this? I think the discounts for Plus owners go some ways towards combating this, but maybe the Plus team could outline their approach to newer content being included in Plus? For example, if I knew for certain that X game wouldn’t be available on Plus for at least Y days, then I would perhaps be more likely to buy that game as I wouldn’t want to have to wait too long. However if a possibility remains that the game would appear in Plus in 2 months time I might wait and see if it shows up.

…I’m dissapointed. I already paid 21.99 EUR for Sam and Max’s full season. When I say I wanted newer games, I meant to say new games, not games-that-were-released-one-month-ago-so-now-my-money-is-wasted.
I regret my purchase of PS+, I want a refund or an election of alternative games.
And why US gets weekly updates and we get only once a month?

Hi, each month we will be adding new games to the service, keep suggesting titles and we will do our best to support these. As stated, we will be introducing new additional content during the month so watch this space

I have been angry at SCEE and PSN+ since the start, but reading what we get and that you and I quote
“We’ve listened to your feedback on here so, rest assured, this is not all that will be available each month; look out for some more exclusive, surprise treats coming to Plus in August and September.”
This realy makes me happy and alot of others I hope. I have allready bought Sam & Max and all I can say is those that have not have a real treat in store!
The PSN+ have been getting almost only bad comments from everyplace I read and people I know just hated the service. Let’s hope things wil change and people wil see that PSN+ is something all Playstation fans should get.
Kudos to SCEE!

@Number45
Yes but PS Plus is primarily a PS3 system. I have a PSP and I can understand (a bit) how a PS1 game could be considered useful (i.e. it can’t do a PS2 game so PS1 will have to do).
Just again it is all about choice – I am going to at least try it out and download it (as I feel I paid for it and I have a 640GB HDD).

James the other thing that I think should happen is that the updates run from the 1st of each month (weekends excepted)
Its wrong that Mike and Ross are getting abuse in the Store Update thread. The PSN+ team should be the ones talking to people.
Myself (Apart from the Background Download problem mentioned above) I’m moderately happy with PSN+. Although I would like to see more stuff that I want/don’t already own.
Posted on 3 August, 2010 at 5:46 pm by James Thorpe
Hi, we are going to be adding more content during the month in addition to the content that is standard for Plus. I’ll be posting where we have exclusives to offer you during the month and if we decide to keep Plus as part of the regular Store update then I will be on hand to deal with any plus comments. I already owe Mike and Ross loads of beer for their help with plus comments on here. The trouble is we are all so busy! We always have time for you guys though

Nice, but still, something is missing. I don´t want to compare with the US-store (they have weekly updates …). Don´t get me wrong I bought the ps plus because I want to support Sony and their work, but they don´t seem to give a X(=Very bad word) about Europe =/! Wish I lived in Japan…
But I look forward to September =)

Hi, thanks for the support with Plus. We def do care about Europe and we listened to your content suggestions and also your suggestions to have content added during the month (coming soon) Hope you like the extra treats and continue to enjoy Plus

I hope the Mafia 2 demo will be available to download from the store instead of having to wait for automatic download to kick in.
Apart from that, pretty good stuff overall! Oh, and a request for Tales of Monkey Island in a future month please.

It will be on the Store for plus members and via AD at least 24hrs before general store release

I can’t see how PSN Plus works out for people who actually spend money on PSN. I have a lot of that content already – unless you’re saying I shouldn’t buy anything when it’s released and wait for PSN Plus announcements I dont’ see this Plus thing working out. It’s really gonna need something better than automatic downloads and PSN games that people already likely own. Getting a demo two days early wasn’t exactly brilliant either. I know there haven’t been many new game since its launch, but a Trial of Infamous? Seriously?
There’s been talk of allowing Plus subscribers to back up saves online and that would certainly make it worth the entry fee – but I am becoming more and more disillusioned with it the further it goes on.

@54 – Gothpunk.
I think that the PSN users are split into three types.
1. Hardcore “must have now gamers”.
2. Regular, enjoy games, but make calculated purchases semi-regularly.
3. Not really any idea what’s on PSN, bought a couple of old PS1 games and never touched it.
Now, PS+ is really aimed (I think) at groups 2 and 3. Group 3 aren’t buying anyway. Group 2 are buying sporadically, not enough to mean they have everything on PS+, so they are getting some value.
The most vocal (and most likely to jump on a new service like PS+) are group 1. They’re (hopefully for Sony) a minority on the PS+ service. Most of the group 2′s will be finding it hit and miss, and they’ll be vocal (mix of positive and negative, depending on if the PS+ gamble has worked for them). The group 3′s will be lapping up the content, but never saying a word…
The point? Group 1 are still buying off PSN.
Group 2 are still buying every so often, but are more than likely buying more from the PS+ deals. Personally, I’ve bought Killzone 2 already, and will be getting Wipeout Fury tomorrow. Two sales of old games Sony otherwise wouldn’t have had.
Group 3 never bought anything anyway

I’m glad you seem to have taken a bit of notice and am a bit more impressed with the upcomming content and the promise that there will be additional exclusive content for PS+ users has me tempted.
Here’s hoping that you keep your word!

Posted on 3 August, 2010 at 4:51 pm by AkodoRyu
I guess there should be some standard way o handling new releases for PSN, so people would have clarity when it could arrive eg. info like this title will arrive at PS+ / or this title will not be available on PS+ for at least 6 months – just something for us to know what we can expect and that we won’t get what we just bought next month.
And I know this is not the right place probably, but is there any info about EU Playstation Network Summer Sale?

Can you explain how the Warhawk discount works? It says 20% anyway but with full game trial its 50% off. So does this mean 70% dicount or does it just mean 50%. Please explain!

Posted on 3 August, 2010 at 4:53 pm by FlipC
I agree with The Sabreman @39 provide a clear link from the flashy PS+ pages to the part of section 10 that states the conditions clearly:
“Type 2. You will no longer be able to access and use the following Subscriber Content after your Subscription Period expires, even if you downloaded it before expiry:
* PlayStation®Network games
* PS one® games
* Minis
* Premium game elements
If you do not renew your subscription immediately at the end of each Subscription Period, but later renew your subscription, you may lose your rights to access any Type 2 Subscriber Content.”
I note the disparity between the EU and US content has already been noted. I was going to ask if they’re paying more than us, but while I note the big clear pricing structure at us.playstation.com/psn/playstation-plus/ I note uk.playstation.com/playstationplus/ seems rather shy in letting anyone know how much it is.

Sam and Max is the first enticing piece of content I’ve yet seen offered. Make it the full season of Tales of Monkey Island and you have a deal!! Until then I’m still a but dubious- psones and minis mean nothing to me.

Oh and a feature that would be great for Ps+ would be the ability to change your PSN ID just like you can in Japan. Make it free for Ps+ users and everyone else charge a fair fee e.g.£1.50.

Still good for PS3 beginners, and good luck to them.

Nice one James. Glad to see the service evolving at such a rapid pace.
I would like to see the push demo’s of new games be “pushed” as quick as possible. (I think the PS3 checks every 2 days for updates etc) Is Mafia 2 early access?
I would also like to see FirstPlay integration. Perhaps leveraging some of your contacts with theirs for exclusive 1on1 chats with Sony producers and studio tours that would be specific to PS+?
Keep up the evolution and I’m sure you can have a service which continues to deliver month on month with content for everyone
P.S Could someone from the PS+ team be on hand should Heads Up posts get bombarded with PS+ questions. Perhaps a quick blog post where people can put their frustrations etc and where it is easy to catalogue and respond to them

Looking good, i can see already you are changing the service to better match what we want, this does not mean you should stop, and SCEE need to do more of this with their other services (how about turning the XMB news ticker for the EU on? You could just link it to the blog atricles!)
Still i am looking forward to this content, the entire season of Sam & Max is a right steal, samewith some of the DLC, very impressed but, there is always room for improvement, so while this is good, always try to do one better
Good work guys!

you are fricking kidding me. once again i feel like i’ve been screwed. seriously Sam and Max. 3 months into plus and there isnt one item i dont already have. i really cant believe it? i am seriously comtemplating for a refund here because it seems no research on games sales figures and how to implement games into the playstation plus service is being done or taken on board.
thanks for rewarding the plus customers that have been supporting the store since day one and purchased plus to carry on supporting it. Let me know when you want me round the office so i can just give you more free money.

“We’ve listened to your feedback on here so, rest assured, this is not all that will be available each month; look out for some more exclusive, surprise treats coming to Plus in August and September.”
THIS IS THE MOST PROMISING THING FOR ME
in this whole article.
As long as you can make sure the service stays interesting during the entire month and not just at the first wednesday of the month, it already will get closer to the PS+ USA offer I bet. Also added more rebate items with 20, 40 and 50% off like USA gets them I would like. And again, this is the most important IMO
GIVE CHOICE
in the main PSN item/game. For example, Sam&Max I don’t have yet, but if I would, it would be nice that for example one can choose something else for the same amount of money. Or at least, give another option or maybe 2 other options to download. If you got those as well then it sucks, but it would be a bit more flexible than just one fixed offer.
Overall I’m glad with what I’m seeing though for the coming months.

One MAJOR bit of feedback.
Alternative games not just one ,as some people may not want them or have them.
Not got PS+ but i think SCEE should look into it.

@72 Furiekins
Yeah I think that’s a pretty accurate summary, or at least accurate for most PSN users falling into those 3 groups.
I’m guessing that you and I would fall into group 1. I’ve bought a lot of PSN games, all my PSP game purchases are now from the PSN store and I’ve quite a few PSone games and minis. However, there are quite a few PSN games that I don’t own yet. So it is for games like Zen Pinball and Sam and Max, some of the DLC and the discounts that makes PSN+ worth it for me. Surely there are a lot of ‘hardcore’ PSN users who are like me, surely they won’t own all the content that’s on offer. I just think Sony need to be clearer on when and what is going to be included each month. I know they can’t realistically include new games all the time, so why not come out and tell me that so that I can make an informed purchase. Why not discount new games, even just a little, to encourage Plus owners to buy games when they are first released (just like how they did with the Fat Princess DLC). I’m also interested to see if Sony will build on features like Automatic Downloads, new features and discounts are what’s going to keep me subscribing next year. Not sure if you’d be the same?

Hi, James. This is what I’d like to see in the coming moths:
- Free Resident Evil 5 DLC.
- Free LittleBigPlanet DLC (especially levels packs).
- Free Burnout Paradise DLC (especially the Big Surf Island).
- any Final Fantasy game.
What I’ve seen in your post looks good, I subscribed for 3 months to test the service and will re-new it depending on the weekly updates we receive from now on, but knowing you guys are willing to hear us makes me be positive about the service.
