I am absolutely delighted to be able bring what will hopefully be very exciting news to those patiently (or impatiently) waiting for more information on Gran Turismo 5. During E3, our American colleagues unveiled their rather tasty looking Collector’s Edition. Today I can now confirm the special editions of Gran Turismo that will be heading Europe’s way later this year.
First up, we have a very special version of the game; one that, with its artfully sculpted exterior, glossy black finish and meticulously designed premium content, exemplifies everything the Gran Turismo brand has always stood for – beauty and precision.
This version of the game is known as the Signature Edition and the recommended retail price will be €179.99. It contains a whole host of exclusive additional content, which is listed below.
- Metal sculpted box finished in SLS AMG Obsidian Black
- Exclusive GT branded SLS AMG 1:43 model car
- GT leather wallet containing Signature Edition competition entry card
- Branded USB key with Polyphony/Mercedes-Benz trailer
- GT branded metal key fob
- Signature Edition coffee table book featuring the beautiful cars and locations of Gran Turismo 5
- 200 page Apex drivers magazine with hints on driving technique, car tuning, future technologies and more
This is in addition to five ‘ChromeLine’ Collector’s Edition cars plus six ‘Stealth’ vehicles, both featuring enhanced performance and liveries and an exclusive dynamic theme.
A dazzling array of content, I’m sure you will agree, but what makes this very special of special editions, well…very special, is a rather unique competition. Those lucky enough to get their hands on the Signature Edition (quantities are going to be strictly limited) will be able to enter an extraordinary competition that will combine in-game and real world driving challenges – the prize at the end of these two stages? A real Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG supercar.
That’s right; through a combination of meeting challenges in-game within Gran Turismo 5 and then subsequently pulling all the right moves at the AMG Signature Edition driving school, you could win what Kazunori Yamauchi himself has called the “most exciting car in the world right now”.
To have a chance of getting your hands on the prize, you’re going to have to be 18 or over and hold a full driving licence. Full competition details will be made available at gran-turismo.com shortly.
The Signature Edition competition will be open to residents of the following countries;
UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Greece, Czech Republic, Russia, Poland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, UAE and Saudi Arabia.
It could well be time to get saving.
Next up for something slightly less exotic but certainly no less exciting, alongside the Signature Edition at launch we will be offering the Gran Turismo 5 Collector’s Edition. This version of the game will have a recommended retail price of €79.99.
The Collector’s Edition features an exclusive commemorative #5 slip case. It also shares special edition inlay art with the Signature Edition.
What’s more, not only do you also get the same dynamic theme as in the Signature Edition, the same set of five ChromeLine vehicles, and also the Apex driver’s magazine, you also get five collectible artcards featuring beautifully rendered images carefully chosen by the team at Polyphony.
And if that lot hasn’t got you going then the final piece of the jigsaw just might. Alongside the special editions of the game, I can now unveil the 6 highly covetable pre-order cars that will be available in those countries with PlayStation Store.
All of the 6 pre-order vehicles in what Polyphony has titled the ‘Stealth’ range feature both performance and livery enhancements to give you that little extra edge in-game.
Here’s the line up:
I hope the exciting packages that we have unveiled here have whet your appetite for the fifth proper Gran Turismo game – so which special edition to choose? Decisions, decisions…
There will be more information to come on all of the above and of course plenty more news to come on Gran Turismo 5 itself. Without a doubt it’s going to appear here, at eu.playstation.com and on gran-turismo.com so keep checking back.

So why exactly isn’t this competition open for to every state that’s part of the EU? I see the EU flag right at the top of the page.
Also, no GT-R for the Collector’s Edition and no key chain? I won’t be buying it sorry. I guess a dynamic theme and 5 card’s price is the same as the model car’s and key chain’s because the price remained the same too. Oh yeah and 200 pages instead of 300 for the book. Thanks

I pre-ordered this game on Amazon.co.uk last November/December. Will I be able to get the pre-order cars? Or is this only for specific sites?

I have now ordered both versions… £210′s worth of Gran Turismo 5.
I know it’s worth it, which is why I don’t mind doing it. The Signature Edition is definitely being put away, it’s not for opening, as much as it pains me. I want to keep that thing secure.
The collector’s edition though… I want to keep that good as well…
DO I NEED THE REGULAR EDITION AS WELL?!
Anyway, love it, it’s not often I buy special editions of games, but I’ve been convinced here to buy both.

€180 for a couple of books, a low capacity USB stick, key fob (I got one free with GT4!), wallet, and cheap toy car? I’ll pass thanks!
The profit margin must be astonishing on this version.

Dear Penrose Tackie,
Why do we get a CE without a model car, while our American friends get one with a car (superior one at that) for the same price?
Also, why does the European version have to be littered with ugly stickers (which are printed on there) like ‘online with 16 players’,'and 3d enabled’ or something similar? It is uglifying the cover and does not add to the ‘exclusive’ feel of the game.

Hi Pennrose, could you please confirm if the collector’s edition is available in Belgium or not? I’m really glad there’s some news now and then, but there are always things that remain unclear…
Thank you

wow 300 bucks!
is that for the game, or a remote control car?
honestly, last year i bought a limited edition Hornet petrol powered RC car, only 5 in the country and only 20 or so in the WORLD! and that only cost me 400!
and i thought the GOW3 ultimate edition was a rip off!
im really looking forward to GT, and wanted every little tibbet i could get for it but 300 bucks i could get 5 brand spanking new games for that price!
or i could get a top of the line logitech racing wheel, which i will need since my ones over 5 years old!
i dont get the pricing of LEs, i mean all the content up there probably cost 80 bucks to make IF that so why are we paying a extra 180 for it?
please sony, reduce the price of this than many many MANY! more people will buy this!
as the saying goes you attract more flies with honey than vinegar!

Dear SCEE,
1. PSN Circles: There’re not clever, they don’t improve sales and they ruin every cover. Please can you tell your boxart department that there is no need to advertise “Stunning 16 player online races” on the front cover. No one else in the world sees the need to do this, so why do you? It makes your covers look amateurish and doesn’t make people more likely to buy the game.
However the 3D icon at the bottom looks smart and gets the point across effectively, just like the “PlayStation Network” icon at the top. You do remember that one of the reasons for the cover change was to allow the addition of the “PlayStation Network” icon at the top. Why does it need to be mentioned twice? Or do you think we Europeans need to be told twice to understand what PlayStation Network means?
What beggars belief is the need to advertise the online mode of GT5 on the Collector’s Editions, which will only be bought by fans, who already know about the online mode.
2. The North American release date for GT5 was announced nearly 2 months ago, yet you still haven’t got around to providing the European one. Why? Surely the best thing to do when announcing the special editions is to announce when they are coming?

Why do SCEE suck? How hard could it be to get a 1:43 Nissan in our Europeen GT5 Collector Edition? Seriously, You put your focus on a Special Edition for 179euro? Insane!
I want what USA get and I don’t want to import an ex. I like my PAL game but… you leave ppl no choice.

Ey what the freaking ¤%%/)&/¤%(#”¤, what happened to the earlier announced collectors edition with a model car and key chain? (US only?) Why even post it here then? Hugely misleading! This was one of the reasons I pre-ordered, gonna cancel CE right now :/
5 dlc’s and a magazine (+€40) WOW…..NOT!
Massively disappointing. Why do US always getting the nicer special editions? Really degrading towards the European market. What do we get? Half the package of CE at the same price or a little bit more (Signature ed) at more then twice as much. Greedy SCEA?
Poor SCEA, really poor! Just release the same &/&¤#¤ packages world wide and stop this crappy behavior with release packages!
