‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update (4th August 2010)

clip_image002

Another week comes rolling in and another PlayStation Store update comes in to land with a cargo hold full of goodies.

Our new Plus content (detailed yesterday by James) will be delivered with today’s update, including a trial of the previously BD only inFamous. If you’ve never played it you’re in for a treat – the opening is positively electrifying (HAHAHAHA! Oh dear…) so make sure you give it a go.

What’s in the grab bag this week? In a break from convention we’ll start with the portable content because along with a PSP version of the recently released Groovin’ Blocks, we’ve got a much requested title – Powered by Namco… it’s Ridge Racer! A true classic and still one of the best driving experiences on PSP.

Remember last time you saw me I teased you about one of my favourite PSOne Classics coming to the store? Well brush off your fighting gloves and prepare to beat the heck out of a grown man wearing spandex trousers and a jaguar mask because it’s here, it’s Tekken 2 and, while it’s not quite as fast-paced as more modern fighters, it’s still brilliant.

For your TV’s best friend we’ve got a good selection as well – Gundemonium Collection brings the ‘bullet hell’ genre screaming onto the PSN with three games in one: Gundemonium Recollection; GundeadliGne and Hitogata Happa. If you feel like punishing your trigger fingers and generally view blinking as a waste of time, these are the games for you. Not convinced you need all three games? Well okay, we’ll let you buy them separately too but don’t say we never do anything for you. ;)

Are you among one of the twenty or so people in Europe who hasn’t already played Modern Warfare 2? Well, we’ve got the Cliffhanger demo ready for you – grab your ice climbing gear, it’s gonna get chilly.

LittleBigPlanet takes leave of Plus and becomes available to everyone this week, just in time for the launch of the third set of Marvel Costumes including two of my favourites, Wolverine and Venom.

We’ve got more for Bioshock 2 (single player challenges this time), more for ModNation Racers and another course for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11.

In the grand tradition of Heads Up posts I’ll be here to field your comments as usual so I’ll catch you all in a little while.

    James Gallagher 4 August, 2010 @ 12:05 pm

Agh, Mr Kebby manages to haunt us even when he’s on holiday! Ross wrote this week’s post – updated the author now.

ShogunDarius 4 August, 2010 @ 12:03 pm   2

still no trinity universe dlc? well going by pretty much all rpgs on ps3 i might as well just get american version of all the rpgs as they sure aren’t well suppported here

    Ross McGrath 4 August, 2010 @ 12:11 pm

The Trinity Universe DLC is in the system, but we can only deliver it as fast as its submitted. You will be getting it, but I’m afraid it can only be delivered once it’s ready. I’ll try and get the process sped up a bit – can’t say fairer than that.

    Ross McGrath 4 August, 2010 @ 12:38 pm

The lovely Square Enix account manager has been talking to them about all kinds of things, including more digital releases of their UMD games and the possibilities Final Fantasy avatars – feedback that’s come straight from you lot. So we’ll have to see what happens.

unitedkronos 4 August, 2010 @ 12:04 pm   10

Tekken 2!

Suzzopher 4 August, 2010 @ 12:05 pm   11

Sweet, Tekken 2 and the Super Stardust soundtrack for me :D

Need for Speed Shift (PSP)
(was – £31.99/€15.99 now – £39.99/€19.99)

thought you put reduction Mike.. not increase ;)

though it is EA so you never know!

    James Gallagher 4 August, 2010 @ 12:06 pm

Yes, I’ve just spotted that and it’s surely a typo – Ross has just popped out but I’m going to clear it up as soon as he gets back.

    James Gallagher 4 August, 2010 @ 12:11 pm

    Fixed. Never happened.

    Ross McGrath 4 August, 2010 @ 12:13 pm

All fixed now, thank you James. It’s not a real Head’s Up update without a mistake in it!

Agamer2006 4 August, 2010 @ 12:05 pm   13

Hi Mike I thought you were on holiday or is the ross pretending to be mike?

Liking the PS Classic, I will be sure to pick it up :)

ChemicalBacon90 4 August, 2010 @ 12:05 pm   14

“Need for Speed Shift (PSP)
(was – £31.99/€15.99 now – £39.99/€19.99)”

Now that’s what I call a SCEE special!

When will it be live, Mike?

HiddenAway 4 August, 2010 @ 12:06 pm   16

Err, mistake I believe in the permanent price reductions :P

* Need for Speed Shift (PSP)

(was – £31.99/€15.99 now – £39.99/€19.99)

wbrinkman 4 August, 2010 @ 12:06 pm   17

* Need for Speed Shift (PSP)
(was – £31.99/€15.99 now – £39.99/€19.99)

Might want to revise that.

    James Gallagher 4 August, 2010 @ 12:07 pm

Yes yes, we know – correcting now. This is a bit of a loopy Wednesday on the blog in terms of the number of posts so that one slipped through my net/eyes.

jammin24 4 August, 2010 @ 12:06 pm   18

Umm i hope that need for speed shift for psp hasnt been ‘reduced’ from £32 to £40. lol

Suzzopher 4 August, 2010 @ 12:06 pm   19

Oh and Gundemonium Collection

hobgoblin 4 August, 2010 @ 12:06 pm   20

Just the SSHD soundtrack for me then.

BTW Mike, do you happen to know if SCEE are planning on doing a Summer Sale promo similar to the US?

Thanks. :)

TalllPaul 4 August, 2010 @ 12:06 pm   21

Recommend the poker to everyone, especially at that price, great addictive game.

almighty-slayer 4 August, 2010 @ 12:06 pm   22

Also:

Need for Speed Shift (PSP)
(was – £31.99/€15.99 now – £39.99/€19.99)

Nice price reduction! Lol

xHeatherx 4 August, 2010 @ 12:06 pm   23

Yay for Tekken 2 and Ridge Racer!! Any news on the Street Fighter Premium avatars? I want my cammy avatar lol.
Thanks Mike!

    Ross McGrath 4 August, 2010 @ 12:16 pm

Those SSFIV Avatars are in the system, they have a date, while the date isn’t too far away as it is I’m trying to make that date sooner, so I’ll let you know.

Agamer2006 4 August, 2010 @ 12:06 pm   24

I see its fixed itself, was wondering why there was a pic of mikes avatar

hobgoblin 4 August, 2010 @ 12:06 pm   25

Sorry, meant to direct that to Ross :)

StefNighthawk 4 August, 2010 @ 12:06 pm   26

Oh yeah, The Super Stardust HD soundtrack.
I wish there were more soundtracks on the store (even if they’re not free).

funkpower 4 August, 2010 @ 12:07 pm   27

Mike? What happened to the holiday? Anyway, that code I won for 3 months PS+ doesnt work? (I did message you) Any chance of one that does work??

Thanks.

I mean Ross!

addyjones1234 4 August, 2010 @ 12:08 pm   29

Yeah a US Style sale would be great :| You know, with some decent games :(

MGajewski 4 August, 2010 @ 12:08 pm   30

Tekken 2 – sweet melody for my ears; )

xHeatherx 4 August, 2010 @ 12:08 pm   31

oops I mean Ross. Mike came up when I first loaded the page :S

JordanBlack68 4 August, 2010 @ 12:08 pm   32

Tekken 2 is a great classic :D

    Ross McGrath 4 August, 2010 @ 12:18 pm

Yeah I’ve been playing it at lunchtimes, it’s still awesome once you get used to the fact fihters used to be slower paced in those days. Not the only awesome classic on its way either. Oooh teasers!

DiekStiekem 4 August, 2010 @ 12:09 pm   33

Hey Mike,

Last week you said we would get Capcom avatars soon (Street Fighter, etc.), any idea when?

steven_dutch 4 August, 2010 @ 12:09 pm   34

Might be tempted to get Tekken 2.
Still, all the PS+ content will keep me occupied for a while. :)
Thanks for the update Mike.

Lee_and_Nomi 4 August, 2010 @ 12:09 pm   35

Please say you’ll never put any of those vulgar themes for PSP and PS3 with virtually naked woman on, that are on the American store. It’s so tacky and I’d hate for our store to have stuff like that. Keep it classy please Mike :)

Innocent Life: A Futuristic Harvest Moon for me his time.

Any change we get an option to delete contend from our download list? Mine is getting a bit long and I would like to delete some things I don’t want to keep.

Have a nive day

    Ross McGrath 4 August, 2010 @ 12:19 pm

Download list management is a very highly requested feature and we’ve been passing on the feedback every time it comes up.

orton131 4 August, 2010 @ 12:10 pm   37

Hey guys, when i turn my ps3 on every morning i find that automatic download has installed things i already have on my ps3 HDD or demos i have previously played im sure it isn’t meant to do this is it? can u guys past this on as i think it needs 2 be fixed. Thanks to whoever replies :)

AaronSOLDIER 4 August, 2010 @ 12:10 pm   38

Tekken 2! Very nice Sony. Any news on when we’ll be getting the next Street Fighter Alpha (2)?

steven_dutch 4 August, 2010 @ 12:10 pm   39

Oops, it’s Ross this week.
Thanks for the update Ross :)

kingkrunch456 4 August, 2010 @ 12:10 pm   40

Gundemonium. This alone will kill me. Thank you SO much for this update guys, really :P But can you spill the beans on if the Resident Evil games can arrive any time soon? Or are you saving it for Halloween? :D Also when will the update be live?

    Ross McGrath 4 August, 2010 @ 12:24 pm

Believe me, they’re not being SAVED for anything – if I could deliver you the Capcom PSOne classics tomorrow I absolutely would! We’ve discussed this before and the info is on the Net if you do a little searching as to why we haven’t seen them yet. As soon as we can legally publish the Capcom PSOne classics, we’ll do it.

Diablo_Rosso 4 August, 2010 @ 12:11 pm   41

Tekken 2? Pfft, get Tekken 3 and then we’ll talk.

pawelgr5 4 August, 2010 @ 12:11 pm   42

I am one of those 20 or so people who never played MW2, so glad to see demo :D

PS+ team made you day much easier huh?? I am pretty sure it is too early to ask but do you know maybe how many PSN games will be available on Move lunch day??

efectz_0121 4 August, 2010 @ 12:11 pm   43

Hi Ross,

Any news on Street Fighters Avatars?
We have been waiting along time compared to the US,

Kind regards,
Andy.

    Ross McGrath 4 August, 2010 @ 12:29 pm

Yeah I’m with you on this one. I addressed this further up – take a look.

No offence but i’m looking at the 360s Summer of Arcade and in the last three weeks they’ve had Limbo, Hydro Thunder and yesterday new Castlevania whilst over on the PS3 we’ve had….. well you get my point.

finally something usfull Gundemonium Collection took ya long enough

SuGaR_rAy_RiDeR 4 August, 2010 @ 12:12 pm   46

pretty good update mike, always nice to see a real psone classic, what time is the store going live, will the plus content be at the same time?

SpyDudeFX 4 August, 2010 @ 12:12 pm   47

Hey James, I joined SCEE Plus mainly for the exclusive dynamic themes your team are producing. At about USD $5 per month, the two exclusive monthly themes are worth it plus the games. So I hope your games don’t overlap too much so I get double the content between both regions ;)

AkodoRyu 4 August, 2010 @ 12:12 pm   48

#29: I second that – give us Playstation Summer Sale please.

YESSSSSSSS
RIIIIIIDGE RACER.
Now the store has some decent classics for the Ridge Racer fan.Even though i got both the EU and recent the JP version of Ridge Racer on UMD. this will boost the ridge racer community. Aloso Ross. Ridge Racer does work with adhoc party, but Ridge Racer 2 has some issues. might need to get a patch for adhoc to work with it if the devs could.

And being honest here asking you, Have Namco given up on Ridge Racer 7, cause there were rumors of a 3D one for ps3. if they do. tell them that they need to add patch and trophy support to it and Reset the rankings. if they do that then we might get more course DLC.

    Ross McGrath 4 August, 2010 @ 12:33 pm

Okey dokey – I’ll pass all your points onto the Namco Bandai account manager.

Super--Brad 4 August, 2010 @ 12:13 pm   50

Nice update :)
After yesterdays talk on Plus, I am a happy person again…

Love you EUblog team, Now off too Tunisia. :D
