Hello everyone! As promised, we’ve returned right here to the PlayStation.blog after weeks of preparation in Finland and we’re finally ready to show off the latest trailer for Kung-Fu LIVE. Thankfully, this comes just before we head to not one, but two of the biggest fan-friendly gaming events on both sides of the Atlantic. The video gives PlayStation owners a taste of the epic multiplayer opportunities for gamers to pick up a controller and fight a player on-screen. The clip also adds a little more insight into just how far you can take your own costume ideas when kicking some serious ass on-screen. Check it out!
We’ve announced that players will have the chance to go body-on with the game at gamescom in Cologne, Germany, August 19th – 22nd in Hall 6 – Open Booth C-033. What we didn’t get to tell you was that Kung-Fu LIVE will also be playable at PAX Prime 2010 in Seattle, WA, September 3rd – 5th in booth #3654. By popular demand, this gives fans in Europe and the US a chance to see more of what we’ve been working on.
As for the shows, we’ll be revealing new enemies, new levels, boss battles, and giving the crowd a taste of multiplayer for the first time at both gamescom and PAX. We can’t wait for you to hop into the game for yourselves, and attendees at both shows have the chance to walk away with some exclusive Kung-Fu LIVE gear. We don’t want to spoil the surprise, but we promise it will help you get in the mood to show off your fighting skills. Costumes will be completely optional, but are definitely encouraged to help intimidate your enemies.
Thanks again for checking out the trailer, and we can’t wait to see you at these shows in the coming weeks as we rapidly approach our launch on PlayStation Store.

That’s fixed now – not sure what the delay was about, but it’s now working fine in my browser.

The main guy in the ad looks way more fun than the game itself.
Is it supposed to look so much like Mortal Kombat on the Mega Drive?

Hi Budmuhnquai,
we wanted to go for a bit of a retro / comics look in the game. But animations and environments are still made in high quality, which is possibly not so apparent from the video. We have e.g. about 90 seconds of unique motion capture animation per characters (acted by actual martial artists) which is quite much. Each character is also normal mapped and in full 3d.
But yeah, there is certain resemblance to MK. Except that it you personally doing some epic whooping of as# inside.

now it works. Will move work with this?
Posted on 12 August, 2010 at 3:01 pm by Teemu Mäki-Patola
Hi Kivi95,
we call it controller-free Move title. It uses just the camera part of the Move bundle (normal PSEye). So expanding the hand based controls by bringing full-body fighting with kicks, jumps, etc. to Move and PSEye owners.

James, if you find the time at Gamescom, try to capture a demo on video at the show. Looks like a lot of fun.

I’m actually kind of regretting giving away my old eye toy now. Would it have been compatible with this, or is it just the later model camera that it works with?
Posted on 12 August, 2010 at 4:25 pm by Teemu Mäki-Patola
Unfortunately not. You need the PS3 camera (PSEye) for this one.

Only the PSEye works with PS3, I think..

Finns only make great games!
Looks awesome! I would totally buy that game if I had the room to play it.

Thanks Dremorax!
You can do alot by placing the camera smartly (e.g. point on the side / put it on a shelf / place it high). I have been able to play in quite small spaces. You need about 2,2 meters from the camera (assuming you are about 180cm) and the camera can also be behind the tv.

I really like the look of this, I’ll defiantly be getting it.
Will it be a full game download on the PSN, or is it gonna be a on a disc?
Also, can you tell us more about online features? (if any)
Posted on 13 August, 2010 at 2:22 pm by Teemu Mäki-Patola
Hi Irish-Sid,
yeah, it will be launched on PSN. Most likely no disk version.
There will be trophies but no online multiplayer (streaming video without annoying lag is difficult).
Lots of local multiplayer modes though, both turn based and up to 5 people simultaneous (4 on gamepads one on camera).

This looks to be awesome. And it really shows how amazing the PS3 and the PSEye is, it can do stuff that the 360 had to invent new equipment for!
