Let’s get right down to it – Mike has decided he doesn’t love you any more so you’re stuck with me for another week. Fortunately we’ve got some great bits and bobs this week that I’m sure most of you will be pleased with.
First up, we’ve got Shank, ultra-violent, ultra-stylish and ultra-fun. Carve your way to victory through a veritable army of shady looking villains, on your own or with a local co-op partner – Mike and I have given it a whirl and it comes highly recommended. Don’t believe us? Well, give it a bash with the free trial and see for yourself. We’ve also got the new Trial and Unlock version of Joe Danger for everyone who wasn’t sure whether or not an awesome stunt-based motocross game where you can create your own stunt-runs and rack up massive points multipliers would be fun… yeah, it is.
All those without Plus can get their hands on PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap today and if you’re an early adopter and have yourself one of them there swanky 3D televisualising boxes you can pick up MotorStorm 3D Rift – ten of the choicest tracks from Pacific Rift bundled together and brought to you in three glorious dimensions at a budget price.
Are you a MAG player? We’re bringing you the MAG Persistent Beta client this week – but remember this will only run if you’ve got your MAG disc in the PS3. Keep your eye on the MAG forums, connect to the Beta server when new features and ideas are being tested and you’ll have the chance to help shape the future of MAG by providing your feedback.
We’ve got DLC for Naughty Bear and Mafia II, although you don’t need to purchase this Mafia II DLC if you’ve bought the game new – there will be a voucher in the box for this content, (this is just here for consumers who grab the game pre-owned and want to try out the DLC).
For PSP, the long awaited Pinball Heroes High Speed bundle is now available – four new tables to test your pinball skills against. We’ve also got five new PSP Essentials this week, including the first time a digital version of Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command is available on the store. (These Essentials titles will only be available on your Store if the UMD versions are available in your territory).
Oh… lest I forget, as promised, ten shiny Super Street Fighter IV avatars. And don’t worry if your favourite isn’t in this batch, there are more are hot on the heels of these.
I’m scary busy this afternoon working on magical secret projects, but I’ll do my best to answer as many comments as I can as I’ll be ducking in and out.
Bye for now.

“I know you guys are forwarding our requests for new games to the publishers (and thank you for that), but can you please, PLEASE, ask them why we have to pay so much more every week compared to the US store?
Really, please ask! We would like to know.
And, does Sony do anything about it at all, or do you just not care? I mean, Sony must have something to say about it, no?”
I’ll just have to keep asking then…! I don’t understand why this is being ignored.

psOne classics I’d like are Discworld 1+2, Broken Sword 1+2 (unless Sony can convince Revolution to bring BS: DC over to PSN), Myst and Riven (unless Sony can convince Cyan Worlds to bring realMyst and Riven HD to PSN).
Any word on Tarsier Studios’ The City of Metronome making it’s way to PS3?
Tale of Tales (makers of The Path, FATALE and The Endless Forest) seems very keen to develop on PS3, Sony needs to contact these guys pronto.
Also why can I not login to the US Blog from the PS3 browser?

CisekPL – “I have a question about DLC from Mafia II. Why Poland doesn’t have this content at PS Store?”
Becouse the worst polish publisher Cenega, that is why :>
SolidAREK – MK2 was in Polish PSN about 2 weeks ago and then it’s disappeared.

Is the file size thing really such a big deal? It tells you when you look at it on the store, and given that you need to look at it on the store to buy it, I can’t imagine it impacts on your day so much.

Ross I was wondering if some of Square’s older classics like the Chrono series the mana series parasite eve and so on are comming to the store? Another one I’m wondering about is Threads of Fate. Tough I think it never ended up in Europe.

The Lucas Arts adventures (Monkey Island 1 and 2) must have sold like grazy. Any news if other old (or new) point and click adventures will make it to PSN?

It’s taking YEARS to download the MAG beta (not the 32mb one off the store, but the 907mb one in-game)!

Ross: “You don’t have to click into anything to see the price – the Price and all information relating to the game is always in the panel on the left when you move over an icon.”
Does the Store team ever test the site using a lower speed connection? If not, why not? In my experience, the price often doesn’t appear for ages – usually only after I click on the item, wait for it to load and then back out of it again.
The store could do with a serious update – it’s annoying that it isn’t XMB-compatible – I’d love to be able to listen to my music while trawling through the store. Don’t know if you have any control over that type of thing, but…

It looks like a nice update this week with a slightly wide variety of content, though unfortunately it’s another week where the money in my PSN wallet will be gathering dust.
I do agree with the people who say there needs to be more psp games and ‘real’ ps1 classics on the store, something more than the kiddy disney type games that we get every once in a while. Then again since Tomb Raider is coming soon I guess I can’t complain too much.
Since it’s aparantly more difficult for the EU store to get content due to games needing to be licenced/rated for many different countries, perhaps Sony should try looking into whether there are any other ways to get content released between countries that could speed up the process. (though i have no idea what other ways there are out there)
Also, I agree with the people who have been pointing out the rediculous pricing on some games, people in EU seem to be paying a lot more for their content, sony should really have a word with the publishers letting them know how the customers feel about it and see if anything can be done.

208- Go on the psp essentials section an click on any game an see if you can see any file size other than this game is compatible with a 320kb meomory stick…. this means if i want to download it i wont know if i will have enought space since i only have a 4gb meomory stick and have to delete stuff if i want to play a game with 500mb or more. Its a simple thing that can be put in the description LIKE in the normal section. Before you comment make sure you know what your talking about.
o an it is very annoying when you have to search for a file size. i had to look on the internet for ages to try and find the file size of breath of fire 3 and i didn’t even actually find the right size

HAHA I’m glad I bought a US PSN card when I was over there, and downloaded Toy Story Racer a couple of days ago when I finally figured out what to do with the card! (in the mean time I went to the US twice without using the card) so I thought lets use it! and yet again not available in the Netherlands!

i see the same totally pants distribution method is being used for the mag beta as the last time. seriously, would it have killed them to put the whole 900mb on the store, rather than that “receiving updates” client-to-client nonsense as before?!. i was expecting it to be finished while i was out at the leisure centre playing my 5-aside game, and here i am three hours later still waiting for it to finish.

i just downloaded the ruse demo, complete with the move instructions, kinda wird, is it ps-plus only or something, because i didn’t read anything about it with this update. i don’t the demo very much, it’s kinda… ugly and it dures ages to road all the detail when you are zoomed in.
sorry for my englisch, i’m a dutchman.

Is there any plans to have the protection plan in AUS?

Pinball Heroes has the same problem first identified in USA on its launch whereby the trophies come up as text 1, text 2 etc. They released a patch for it. Would have thought in the 3 months it took to come to Europe we might have got the working version!

Hi Ross,
I bought Shank yesterday and it was a bit of let down. I was expecting an online co-op mode. Plus the game is quite short and English only. Do you think that we might get a patch for an Online co-op?
Thanks.

Why was Shank deleted from the German PSN Store? Not only the Demo is gone, but the whole Game is nowhere to be found.

Real glad I bought Shank. Excellent game and I was playing for near 4 hours straight last night. Most I’ve enjoyed a PS Store game in a long, long time. Certainly the best 2D brawler type game (though I still love Final Fight as well).
