PSP minis: Angry Birds mini Is Visually Optimized For The PSPgo

Countries: , , , ,

Hi everyone, my name is Johnny Coghlan and I’m Head of Publishing for Chillingo. I’m posting on the PlayStation.Blog to confirm that Chillingo’s record-breaking physics game, Angry Birds, is going to release for PlayStation minis!

PlayStation minis: Angry Birds

In Angry Birds, players take control of a flock of different birds as they attempt to retrieve their precious eggs from a fiendish group of thieving pigs. The pigs have taken refuge within levels containing structures made up of materials such as wood, glass and stone. There are over 100 levels to play through! The object of the game is to catapult the birds into the pigs and their protective barriers, in order to eliminate the pigs and rescue the eggs.

Each level gives the player a certain number of birds to catapult at the pigs using a giant slingshot. There are six different types of bird, each with its own appearance, weight, sound effects and special abilities such as exploding or splitting into three mini-birds for maximum impact! If the birds hit the pigs or knock a piece of material onto a pig, the pig may explode into thin air and disappear.

When all of the pigs are defeated without the player running out of birds to catapult, the level is complete and a new level is unlocked! Players may re-attempt levels as many times as they wish, and may also replay completed levels to score more points and achieve more reward stars.

Angry Birds for minis features all of the content that has made it a record-breaking addictive success! Controls are instinctive, meaning that anyone can play the game straight away, while visuals are optimized for the PSPgo to ensure the overall experience is the best it can be on the platform.

This is going to be a hit release when it launches soon! For more information on Angry Birds you can visit Chillingo.com now!

VidZone Exclusive: Underworld – Always Loved A Film

Countries: , , , ,

Do I need to introduce Underworld? I would like to think that I don’t. They aren’t just the ones that did that one that went “Lager lager lager shouting”; they are producers that have shaped the dance music scene for the last 25 years, albeit with a couple of breaks here and there.

UNDERWORLDEXCLUSIVE_EN

So, we have the exclusive of their new video, Always Loved a Film, and I have to say the whole office is a fan of this video. Imagine footage of your local skate park attendees but with a twist; to find out the twist, well you can probably see from the screen grabs, but get yourself over to VidZone to check… it… out.

Video Grab 2

The track is from their new album, Barking, which is out on the 13th of September and is destined to be quite a smash with collaborations with everyone from Mark Knight to High Contrast.

Enjoy, and as always, tell us what you think.

Digital Comics Store Update (25th August 2010)

Countries: , , , ,

Hello everyone, and welcome to this week’s very exciting store update! I don’t even know where to start.

250810

Well, let’s begin anyway with a comic based on the acclaimed and hugely popular video-game Starcraft! And it’s even free! Yes. This sizzling sci-fi action comic, set just before the events of Starcraft II, follows the War Pigs, a disbanded team of shady outlaws reunited for one last mission … Follow this intriguing bunch of characters as they cross paths with zergs, special Cerebus units, protoss, and other familiar Starcraft characters … and events. You can read more about the comic and all the thinking that went behind it in this interview with writer Simon Furman. In the meantime, make sure you get your free copy while it lasts!

But that’s not all – if you’re more of a horror and infected towns kind of person, or if you simply happen to like Silent Hill … we have the perfect comic for you. All five issues of Silent Hill: Dying Inside are coming to PSN today. And it’s not just the setting that’s good – the comic itself was so popular that the first two issues sold out in record time, and it is completely justified: written by NY Times bestselling author Scott Ciencin, with art by Ben Templesmith (too many good comics to list – but Wormwood fans here know what I mean) and Aadi Salman, and a suitably chilling and gripping story to boot … it’s just as good as it sounds.

And because big cities look just as nice infected, join a group of outcasts fighting Coney Island’s zombie infestation in We Will Bury You #3. Awesome comic featuring zombies on fire and a very good audio piece by writers Brea and Zane Grant.

Also out in the store this week is a slice of vintage comic goodness with Journey Into Mystery (1952) #83 to #86. Issue #83 sees Stan Lee introduce the mighty Thor for the very first time; he has famously said that comic books were the mythology of modern days, and therefore set out to create this god-like new hero … Check out his vision here!

And finally you can also pick up issue #1 of new series Raising Amy, the adventures of a little girl with a very big attitude (you’ll see). Officially “born to be wild”, Amy is a bit of a terror but it’s safe for you readers – just sit back and laugh with this very funny comic strip.

‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update (25th August 2010)

Countries: , , , ,

250810Header

Let’s get right down to it – Mike has decided he doesn’t love you any more so you’re stuck with me for another week. Fortunately we’ve got some great bits and bobs this week that I’m sure most of you will be pleased with.

First up, we’ve got Shank, ultra-violent, ultra-stylish and ultra-fun. Carve your way to victory through a veritable army of shady looking villains, on your own or with a local co-op partner – Mike and I have given it a whirl and it comes highly recommended. Don’t believe us? Well, give it a bash with the free trial and see for yourself. We’ve also got the new Trial and Unlock version of Joe Danger for everyone who wasn’t sure whether or not an awesome stunt-based motocross game where you can create your own stunt-runs and rack up massive points multipliers would be fun… yeah, it is.

All those without Plus can get their hands on PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap today and if you’re an early adopter and have yourself one of them there swanky 3D televisualising boxes you can pick up MotorStorm 3D Rift – ten of the choicest tracks from Pacific Rift bundled together and brought to you in three glorious dimensions at a budget price.

Are you a MAG player? We’re bringing you the MAG Persistent Beta client this week – but remember this will only run if you’ve got your MAG disc in the PS3. Keep your eye on the MAG forums, connect to the Beta server when new features and ideas are being tested and you’ll have the chance to help shape the future of MAG by providing your feedback.

We’ve got DLC for Naughty Bear and Mafia II, although you don’t need to purchase this Mafia II DLC if you’ve bought the game new – there will be a voucher in the box for this content, (this is just here for consumers who grab the game pre-owned and want to try out the DLC).

For PSP, the long awaited Pinball Heroes High Speed bundle is now available – four new tables to test your pinball skills against. We’ve also got five new PSP Essentials this week, including the first time a digital version of Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command is available on the store. (These Essentials titles will only be available on your Store if the UMD versions are available in your territory).

Oh… lest I forget, as promised, ten shiny Super Street Fighter IV avatars. And don’t worry if your favourite isn’t in this batch, there are more are hot on the heels of these.

I’m scary busy this afternoon working on magical secret projects, but I’ll do my best to answer as many comments as I can as I’ll be ducking in and out.

Bye for now.
