An update to the PS3 system software was released on 7 September 2010. If you update your PS3 system, the system software version will be 3.42 and the following features will be updated. In order to download PS3 system software version 3.42, you will need a minimum 168MB of free space on either the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).

if you have to get another ps3 because of your ylod issue if your ps3 is no longer under warrenty (if under warrenty sony will repair the hardware fault which is what the ylod is. it would not be because of 3.42 but i could not def state this.
with your ps+ membership i have it also and if you had to get anther ps3 sony will help you deactivate game/video so that you can activate those options on new ps3 and + membership is tied to your account thus allowing it to run on new ps3, still i would ring sony in australia to confirm this.

Another lame update.. more features please.. Atleast push a single new feature for every update.. So atleast we get something worth of our download!!

this is a security update not a update for new things !
second of that, do you really think if they not trying to fix the jailbreak device you get free features? no if the only give free features but not fixing the jailbreak you can pay for cross chat in the near future! our any new things.
jailbreak means losing income! that means they need to charge you for every new feature they release! to compensate losed income!
