Digital Comics Store Update (6th October 2010)

Hello everyone, and welcome to this week’s comic store update. This is one hell of an update actually, and we’ve got it all this week – brand new publishers, brand new comics, and more of your favourites!

Digital Comics Store Update (6th October 2010)

*UPDATE* Faber and Faber’s fantastic comic City of Glass, adapted from the famous Paul Auster novel, is also out today! A man called Daniel Quinn receives a mysterious phone call meant for a private detective and decides to take on the case… This decision will open Quinn’s eyes on some surprising things about identity, language and human nature. This is a very intelligent adaptation of the novel, and we highly recommend it.

Wonder Woman returns with four new comics this week, issues #1 to #4 of Wonder Woman Vol.3, otherwise known as the “Who is Wonder Woman?” story arc. Amazon warrior Diana is missing, leaving Donna Troy in charge of the Wonder Woman mantle. But what happens if Diana returns, and when you have two Wonder Women?
We are also thrilled to introduce new publisher Twistory, who this week bring you three excellent new series: 13 Chambers, a beautifully illustrated fantasy/western series set in 1860s Far West; Dust, another little gem set in a WW2 gone wrong under the influence of new alien technology; and Dust Wars, sultry sci-fi with more of Paolo Parente’s beautiful art.
We also have more Batman for you (#664 to #666, in other words Batman & Son #6 to #8), more Silent Hill with all four issues of Silent Hill: Sinner’s Reward, 1960s Iron Man with five issues of Iron Man (1968), and much more.
And this week’s last surprise… Simon’s Cat is also making its debut on the PSN comics store*! Most of you will know this fantastic comic from its YouTube incarnation, lovingly animated around our autoflow feature.
(*Please note that this is only available in the UK, South Africa and Ireland.)

Digital Comics Store Update (6th October 2010)

A few words from Simon Tofield, the creator of Simon’s Cat himself:

I am absolutely thrilled that my new book, ‘Simon’s Cat: Beyond the Fence’ is now available for the PSP through the Digital Comics Store. And I feel truly privileged to be in the company of many legendary comic artists and writers from publishers such as Marvel and DC.
For those of you not familiar with Simon’s Cat, it started out as a short Flash film I animated called ‘Cat Man Do’. This by complete accident and surprise ended up becoming a massive viral hit online, and it spawned a series of Simon’s Cat films that now have in excess of 83million views in total on YouTube alone. Later I was fortunate enough to be noticed by Canongate Books, who suggested I take Simon’s Cat into print. This lead to my first book, ‘Simon’s Cat: In his very own book’ and now my second, ‘Simon’s Cat: Beyond the Fence’ which is available on the Digital Comics Store.
The films and books are loosely based upon my own relationship with my cat. Though I actually have four cats in real life. Hugh, Jess, Maisy and Teddy.
I love the way the PSP’s Comic Reader bridges the gap between film and printed page with the Autoflow feature. In a way this is perfect for Simon’s Cat, as the series’ soul is with animation, and the Autoflow camera is a reminder of that when reading the book on the PSP. I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out on the PSP, losing nothing by being converted to a handheld screen. In a way it’s a lot more convenient as 240 pages is a significant book to chuck into your bag, whereas the PSP is quite handy and you can have a few games with you as well!
I hope you enjoy the book and I’m looking forward to the possibility bringing more content to Sony platforms in the future.

Make sure you check this one out this week!
