Hello everyone,
We’ve got another packed episode this week, with an exclusive PSN trial of the brilliantly bloodthirsty side-scrolling RTS Swords & Soldiers, and our last bit of PlayStation Home Top Gun attire – the one you’ve been waiting for, Maverick’s helmet. Show me the way home. Home! I’ve been waiting weeks to say that.
We’ve also got another strong line-up of games, with reviews of EA’s rebooted blockbuster Medal Of Honor, and muddy-as-hell puddle sim FIA World Rally Championship. We’ve also got a behind-the-scenes preview of EA Sports’ MMA, and a round-up of other releases featuring Jon Daly’s ProStroke Golf, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.
And there’s more – a huge hands-on multiplayer preview of Call Of Duty: Black Ops, including interviews with developer Treyarch, our top ten list of the best weapons you can build in Dead Rising 2, and a look at your latest skin-tearing Skate catastrophes.
On top of all that we’ve got a review of Swords & Soldiers – luckily, it’s not rubbish – and another round of screenshot galleries, this week featuring Batman Arkham City, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, F3AR and Yakuza 4.
Go on, admit it – that’s loads of stuff for just 99p. Over half an hour of HD gaming to watch, a game to play, and a special helmet to wear while you dance like a lunatic in the event space. And, if you subscribe for just £8.99 for 12 weeks, it’s even less. Less than hardly anything in the first place.
We really are keen to hear your thoughts, feedback, ideas for recurring jokes to go at the bottom of our blog posts, so please, please do get in touch with us. You can do so on on Twitter at @firstplay_uk, FirstPlay@futurenet.com, or the official EU forums. I dunno, Medal Of Honar just seems overhyped! like COD.
I was gonna get it from work but i got Enslaved instead, new IP over a FPS anyday of the week.

Agree Enslaved is awesome, but I was pleasantly surprised by Medal Of Honor. If you’re not after a shooter it’s probably not your thing, but it’s a big comeback.
And – whisper it – I’ll probably play that online instead of Black Ops. Killstreaks make me *so* sad.

hey hey
you guys should really stop using the word exclusive. swords and soldiers is up on the us store as a playable demo.
it wasnt great
Posted on 12 October, 2010 at 11:50 am by Nathan Ditum
I’m always careful about using the word – I agree, it’s gotten to the point where it’s almost meaningless. In this case I think it’s fair – we’re a UK/Ire only product, and the vast, vast majority of people in those regions (regular folk who don’t have US PSN accounts) can only get it through FP.

Ah the harmonious ring of discord from many a reader. Not surprising in the least. You got to do better if you want to keep your subscribers, FarcePlay.

Dragon here ( and he now comes with a FIANCÈE!!!)
It’s getting better and better Nathan and team, introducing game trials is a sweet way of promoting FirstPlay and the game itself!! Defo agree it should be included in Plus but that’s more Sonys bad not yours.
Me and some mates are split Mr D … what do you think will be BETTER … MOH or Black Ops???
Keep it up team!!
John

I don’t want to keep seeing things I can’t access Sony…
“Oh look at what extra services the UK & IRE guys/gals get…”
I love being reminded that we are treated as a Sony backwater
Thanks

ya your right.
i certainly would give it any form of positive review its a old school concept thats been done better before.
my bad for the commment though. it wasnt directly at the game and more a rhetoric for using the term “exclusive” for content thats already been released (albeit to the us)
exclusivity seems to be another word for “delayed to the uk” even the term UK exclusive is often missplaced by first play as ALOT of their content is available freely on the web

Hey guys, Mods,
THIS POST IS TOTALLY OFF-TOPIC
I have a question: The price update for the MW2 map packs should last until the 12th of October, which it is today. When I watched earlier this day the prices were still €6,99 instead of €13,99, but when I cameback from buying my PSN-card the prices were up again, even though the packs are still in the special prices zone in the PSstore.
This issue plays at least in the Dutch PlayStation Store locale. I’ve come to ask here since the PSstore-managers are in England and time is limited….

I hate to be the bearer of bad news Nathan, but if you don’t like the ‘killstreak’ based perks in CoD online then you’re not going to like MoH online as it uses a similar system except it’s called ‘scorechain’ … doesn’t bother me as I can’t stand playing FPS’s online.
Posted on 12 October, 2010 at 5:10 pm by Nathan Ditum
I was on the MoH beta, and they’re *way* more balanced, to my mind.
