‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update 20th October 2010 (And A Goodbye)

'Heads-Up' Game Store Update 20th October 2010

This week’s update is going to be a bit different to previous weeks; it’ll be a bit more personal than usual…though I’ll go into more detail after discussing this week’s content.

Tim Schafer’s latest creation Costume Quest hits the store this week, and it’s the perfect title for unleashing your inner child and embracing Halloween with pure unadulterated joy (that you would usually get scorned for as an adult). No matter how I try and describe this title I’ll most likely do it a disservice, so just check it out and make up your own mind (Ed: you could also watch the video interview with Tim and Tasha Harris here).

Swords and Soliders also joins the ranks this week, and any game that can say (taken straight from the marketing material) “blend ninja monkeys, attacking Aztecs and brutal Vikings with everything you love about real time strategy games and you’ve got Swords and Soldiers” must be worth a look, right? Not only does this game have local and online multiplayer, it also supports 3D too, so definitely something for you with swanky 3D TVs to be taking a look at.

The rest of the content is, as ever, listed below.

Now for my news; this will actually be my very last PlayStation Store update, as I’m actually leaving SCEE next Tuesday.

[pause for effect]

It’s still hard for me to believe my time at PlayStation is coming to a close, but I’ll still be involved with the platform as I’m off to join the digital team at SEGA; so I’ll definitely be coming back every now and again with the latest news from the world of SEGA. You won’t be getting rid of me completely.

Sincerely though, it has been a pleasure being here and talking to you all on a weekly basis, and all the best for the future to PlayStation, the staff here, and you the community!

It’s been emotional.

It’s cool to see some more PSOne Classics appear, what’s happening with Bloody Roar 2 though? And good luck with your new job with SEGA. :)

AaronSOLDIER 20 October, 2010 @ 1:02 pm   2

Does this mean you’ll get us Yakuza faster? :P

I’m going to miss you Mike :(

*Silent tear*

Hi Mike! Any news on when Tomb Raider 2 will hit the store?

Also, I hope there’s been some progress on getting the Tombi games to the store. :D

What? Your leaving? I´m shocked :O At least I can still see you on twitter :) Thanks for great times and have fun at your new work :)

    Mike Kebby 20 October, 2010 @ 1:10 pm

I am indeed, it wasn’t an easy decision to make, I’ve loved my time here at PlayStation.

You’ve all been a lot of fun (even the moaners at times) and it’ll be weird having Wednesday afternoons to myself again. I’ll have to ask the team at SEGA to sit and hurl abuse at me for the first few Wednesdays just so I can settle in :P

JordanBlack68 20 October, 2010 @ 1:05 pm   11

Rubbish news, gutted.

AaronSOLDIER 20 October, 2010 @ 1:05 pm   12

    Mike Kebby 20 October, 2010 @ 1:17 pm

I absolutely can’t agree with you here dgnfly.

Ross is an amazing addition to the team, and he actively engages with you lot as much as I ever have.

Chocobo115 20 October, 2010 @ 1:07 pm   22

Oh, just saw you’re going away :/
Don’t worry I’ll come over to you and whine about the Sega games if you hang around at their forums :D

steven_dutch 20 October, 2010 @ 1:07 pm   23

Cool.
Another Zen Pinball table.
Thanks Mike, and good luck with your job at Sega.

nemesisND1derboy 20 October, 2010 @ 1:09 pm   31

Thanks Mike for doing a great job over the last year. F5 Fridays, Thursdays and now Wednesdays have been some of the highlights of my week, the banter between you and the commenters always entertaining. You have always, even in the face of criticism, a courteous and entertaining man, and I don’t think the blog will be the same without you. Here’s to hoping you have a great time in your new job, and hopefully you will post on the Blog again in the future! Hit me up on PSN if you like, see ya!

    Mike Kebby 20 October, 2010 @ 1:21 pm

Thanks for your comment, very nice to read (in fact you’ve all been very nice…so far).

It’s been an entertaining ride looking after the Store, and then communicating with you guys since the blog started, I was over the moon when I was told I could post here on a weekly basis, made me feel like a proper blogger.

I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such a passionate fan base, and to be honest, even in the face of the harshest of criticism, I wouldn’t change that. You’re all great just the way you are :D

    Mike Kebby 20 October, 2010 @ 1:22 pm

Also, I fully intend to be bugging James G on a regular basis with posts about SEGA content, so you haven’t seen the last of me by any means ;)

But… but… Mike. You won’t get to announce the release of Williams Pinball!

Good luck mush

    Mike Kebby 20 October, 2010 @ 1:22 pm

I know…to say I am gutted is an understatement of epic proportions :)

It’s ‘in-jokes’ like this that I’ll especially miss.

    Cheers fella!

Best of luck, Mike.

Best of luck in the new job Mike. Thanks for everything you did for the EU PS community (even if a lot of the time it seemed to go unappreciated). :)

    Mike Kebby 20 October, 2010 @ 1:26 pm

Thanks. I’ve never been so conceited to expect praise all the time…I mean I’m only doing my job after all. But it’s always nice when someone goes out of their way to share something positive, when sometimes it’s much easier to say something negative.

M3RL1NS_N3M3S1S 20 October, 2010 @ 1:09 pm   35

Best of luck at SEGA, maybe you can be our inside man trying to get Dreamcast 2 off the shelf and back into the design phase ;)

Cant let you go without an update question though :p where’s the remaining Fallout 3 DLC for PS+? is it still being released today? :)

Does your replacement know what they signed up for?, i mean passionate is the nice way of saying tough crowd :p

    Mike Kebby 20 October, 2010 @ 1:27 pm

I believe the other two packs are hitting Plus today yes…I admit, I forgot to list them…ooops.

RoyalWelsh99 20 October, 2010 @ 1:10 pm   36

Goodbye and goodluck on your new job Mr Kebby. ;)

I can get over Wayne Rooney leaving, but not Mike Kebby. Only kidding Good luck at SEEGGAA.

Guillemots 20 October, 2010 @ 1:10 pm   38

What a bad news :(
Yesterday my PS3 get YLOD, and today, Mike is leaving SCEE :(
All the best for your new Job at SEGA ;-) (see you on Twitter as always!)
Ciao!

so when is the update today! As a note to the person taking over this i think you should put an approx time on when the store will update in the blog post! Now go tell’em Mike ;-)

    Mike Kebby 20 October, 2010 @ 1:39 pm

No, they can’t make changes that you may find better…then how would I look in your eyes. I want to be held on a pedestal for all eternity ;)

We still getting the other fallout 3 dlc today? picked the game up recently and loving it

rossthebassist 20 October, 2010 @ 1:10 pm   41

Good to have a sony guy at sega :D maybe drop some hints about custom soundtracks in crazy taxi so i can still get those offspring songs in :D

Croopnick_PL 20 October, 2010 @ 1:10 pm   42

Snak….Mike? What Happen? Mikeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

You was the first person who usually answer to our posts. Well at least I’ll remeber you for that.
Thanks so much for that!

    Mike Kebby 20 October, 2010 @ 1:39 pm

What!? You won’t remember me for my rapier wit, and devilish good looks and… :P

Dudley0Neill 20 October, 2010 @ 1:10 pm   43

Going out with a PONG aye Mike.
Best of luck with SEGA.

Could you talk to the PLUS team and get them to upload the Killzone theme to the NZ store. I know I cant get in the beta, but would like to have the theme. I be paying for it an all.

Chow.

Who’s taking over the weekly blogs then mike?

Did Ross get a promotion :O

sad to see you go aswell :( the blog will never be the same *cries*

    Mike Kebby 20 October, 2010 @ 1:44 pm

Ross will indeed be looking after the blog posts yes. I’m not actually being replaced as such [enter egotistical comment about being irreplacable here], but Ross will be doing extra stuff yes.

He’ll look after you all ;)

Myst3rialP 20 October, 2010 @ 1:12 pm   45

Thank you for tons of info, answers and making this blog a fan-friendly place :)

Good luck and have fun at Sega!

    Mike Kebby 20 October, 2010 @ 1:45 pm

Thanks for that, at the very least that’s what I’ve tried to do, so I’m glad I was somewhat successful in doing that (for some of you) :D

Dragoncat1991 20 October, 2010 @ 1:12 pm   46

Too bad, I just heard only last week from Mike.

Hi Mike,

Sad to see you go. We all appreciate all the hard work you have done over the years. Putting up with all the angry fans over the years and always having a nice thing to say to them.

Good luck over at SEGA. I am sure you will be a huge asset to the company but making the Blog a much quieter place.

Goodbye and good luck.

PS. Put in a good word for us while you over there to get some Dreamcast classics. :)

You’re now going to be working at Sega? Dreamcast 2 confirmed! Wish you all the very best and many thanks for answering questions each and every week.

But have no fear, for here at the Strange Games and Funky Licensing offices as we speak my crack team of experts are now hard at work on the treasure trove of glorious games that is the Sega Dreamcast. Be afraid, be very afraid!

May each day bring you the joy, warmth and happy blue skies of Sega.

Game Over. YEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! ^_^

AKGermany 20 October, 2010 @ 1:13 pm   49

Good luck at SEGA! You’ve raised the bar for interaction with us lowly gamers on here (and for taking a fierce weekly beating about delayed content ;-) ). You can be proud of that “legacy”, let’s hope whoever comes next follows this standard.

Croopnick_PL 20 October, 2010 @ 1:13 pm   50

oh and one more thing..I’ll miss Tenzin :P
