Hello everyone,
The blood dripping down the walls and the sickly aroma of toffee apples can only mean that it’s Halloween. Or at least that it’s close enough to Halloween for us to make episode 30 of FirstPlay, up on the Store from this Wednesday, into a spooky special.
That means we’re previewing the hottest upcoming PS3 horrors including F.3.A.R. and Shadows Of The Damned, checking out the meanest video nasties on the PSN Store, and playing through three of your scariest LittleBigPlanet levels. And we’ve also got a special feature asking the FirstPlay and Official PlayStation Magazine teams to talk about their scariest ever gaming moments.
Not Halloween-themed but just as scary is our review of grappler sequel WWE Smackdown! Vs Raw 2011, and we’ve also got our verdict on Fallout New Vegas, an in-depth interview with FreeStyleGames about the making of their hip-hop hit DJ Hero.
And there’s more – our regular galleries, including the bloodiest screenshots we could find, and a reviews round-up – and it all comes for just 99p, or less if you buy an £8.99 subscription for 12 weeks.
Enjoy! And have a wicked Halloween. See you next week.
We’re always eager to hear your thoughts, feedback, and ideas for terrifying sweets out of elderly neighbours, and you can get in touch on Twitter at @firstplay_uk, FirstPlay@futurenet.com, or the official EU forums. And don’t forget you can sign up for the FirstPlay newsletter at http://www.firstplay.co.uk/register to have regular news and content updates delivered directly.
See the Future of PS3. First.

This is more like it guys, sound like another great episode. I think I’ll watch it on Sunday night along with other horror-themed movies.
That scariest-moments in gaming feature sounds very good

Thanks Raider – hope you enjoy it, man. Let us know what you think, it’s a slightly different thing for us.

@1 It’s 720p, if it were 1080p I think the download size would be through the roof.
It still looks brilliant though, and it looks much better than anything you can find ‘for free on the internet’ as that old criticism goes.

you should show the games as they are like if the game is in 1080i you show that one in 1080i and if the next one is in 720p you show it in 720p but keeping all the menus in 1080p then changes to what ever resolution the game is your showing becauce if anyone is like me i will only buy a game if it`s in 1080p

There’s definitely a sense to that, but as Basket says we struggle with bandwidth as it is, so we keep everything to a uniform 720. I think we would mention a game that was 1080p native, as it’s quite unusual – not show it, but make a point of it in the narration.

@Basket21
Or perhaps it is done by the OFFICIAL UK (emphasis) PLAYSTATION MAGAZINE?

@5 That would be quite annoying though, since some TVs (such as mine) notify you when the resolution changes. I wouldn’t like the notification popping up every few minutes.
But I see what you mean, what size TV do you have? On my 50″, 720p games still look great.

A “scary” review for SvR 2011? I take it that means it sucks?
Posted on 26 October, 2010 at 2:45 pm by Nathan Ditum
I think I was going to expand on that and talk about big sweaty dudes in tight pants. It *does* sound odd like that – the game definitely doesn’t suck.

“if anyone is like me i will only buy a game if it`s in 1080p”
You’ve missed some cracking games on PS3 then!! Can’t think of many that actually run at 1080p. Tekken from PSN store. Wipeout. Virtua Tennis. Most games struggle to run at 720p, so 720p videos of games seems reasonable to me!

I’m sorry but does the script for these shows have to be so dumbed down? The narrator sounds like she’s had a lobotomy, but the most important thing is that the script talks to the audience like they were mentally challenged.

Any specifics? We don’t always get things bang on tone-wise, but we certainly don’t want to be stupid.

Just wanted to know, who subscribed to PS+ just to get into the kz3 beta? And only over half of us got into the beta? Well SONY JUST GOT PAID and gained some unhappy PS+ members( for a couple of months atleast).
Posted on 26 October, 2010 at 2:51 pm by Nathan Ditum
Seems like more of a question for Sony, FirstPlay isn’t made by Sony and doesn’t have anything to do with PS+. Sorry fella.

@ ShadowDoGGG
That is still no reason why other countries still don’t have a gameshow with episode content..
If a company is gonna make a commercial stating that it almost does everything.. Then it should do almost everything in every region/country.

Yes it is as it is done by Future publishing. Next you’ll be telling me Netflix must release in Europe also..

“SONY dont give a toss if they have unhappy PS+ members…. they r happy to take our money though”
That would be called business. At the end of the day Sony/PlayStation UK/Future publishing aren’t here to garner smiles and slaps on the back. They’re here to make a profit off of us, the consumer. The day they hold guns to our heads and force us to download is the day we can complain. Until then, we voluntarily pay for products and services. If Sony’s business practices are SO old hat, why do people bother buying anything? This clearly shows they know how to work the fanbase. It’s shrewd but that’s business. It’s the same the world over.
I’m happy with that, tbh, because at the end of the day, overall, I enjoy the system, the products and the services. And for me the good outweighs the bad. It’s only FarcePlay and the rampant sexually depraved deviants on Home that let the side down, and to a lesser extent the lack of support SCEE gives it’s users compared to SCEA.

Nope I will never state that netflix or firstplay should open up to everyone.. But we should get something similar..
Cause that is what I am saying in my comment it should do the things it is capable of everywhere and not only in a phew/handful regions/countries.
We buy @ least the same amount of games and with that in mind often it is more expensive for us over here.. We deserve to be treated better.
And that is a statement I do make..
