Digital Comics Store Update (20th October 2010)

Hi everyone, time for the weekly comic update! Huge update once again with 69 comics, and a lot of highlights.

First off, a treat from Marvel with the adaptation of Raymond E. Feist’s acclaimed fantasy saga Magician, starting with Magician: Apprentice #1-6. These first six issues introduce young orphan Pug and follow his coming of age in the increasingly troubled world of Midkemia – a gripping story that will see our hero and his friend Tomas swept up into their world’s conflict with some terrible consequences.

Also in this week is DC (Wildstorm)’s Red. In this Warren Ellis’ created series we meet Paul Moses, a retired CIA agent who wants to puts his past behind him and live in complete peace. But he knows too much, and his peaceful retirement is to come to an end one way or another when a three-man hit team knocks on his door… Also out are three more issues based on the freshly released movie: Red: Franck, Red: Joe and Red: Victoria. Take your pick!

Next up is the very topical Trick’r Treat, adapted from the dark comedy/horror movie of the same name. This anthology of four Halloween-related scary stories has vicious killers, zombies, demons and werewolves – all you need for the Halloween week-end! Parts #1 and #2 are available today and the two others will be coming very soon.

We’re also delighted to bring you Ratchet & Clank #1, adapted from the franchise we all know and love. With Dr. Nefarious defeated and the universe safe, galactic heroes Ratchet and Clank return to the Solana galaxy for some well-earned rest and relaxation… Or so they think! A nice adaptation and a must for the fans of the game series.

We also have something for True Blood fans with True Blood #4, more Batman, Wonder Woman and Y: The Last Man for those who have been asking for these comics, and one extra treat for gamers with Dragon Age #4.

‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update 20th October 2010 (And A Goodbye)

'Heads-Up' Game Store Update 20th October 2010

This week’s update is going to be a bit different to previous weeks; it’ll be a bit more personal than usual…though I’ll go into more detail after discussing this week’s content.

Tim Schafer’s latest creation Costume Quest hits the store this week, and it’s the perfect title for unleashing your inner child and embracing Halloween with pure unadulterated joy (that you would usually get scorned for as an adult). No matter how I try and describe this title I’ll most likely do it a disservice, so just check it out and make up your own mind (Ed: you could also watch the video interview with Tim and Tasha Harris here).

Swords and Soliders also joins the ranks this week, and any game that can say (taken straight from the marketing material) “blend ninja monkeys, attacking Aztecs and brutal Vikings with everything you love about real time strategy games and you’ve got Swords and Soldiers” must be worth a look, right? Not only does this game have local and online multiplayer, it also supports 3D too, so definitely something for you with swanky 3D TVs to be taking a look at.

The rest of the content is, as ever, listed below.

Now for my news; this will actually be my very last PlayStation Store update, as I’m actually leaving SCEE next Tuesday.

[pause for effect]

It’s still hard for me to believe my time at PlayStation is coming to a close, but I’ll still be involved with the platform as I’m off to join the digital team at SEGA; so I’ll definitely be coming back every now and again with the latest news from the world of SEGA. You won’t be getting rid of me completely.

Sincerely though, it has been a pleasure being here and talking to you all on a weekly basis, and all the best for the future to PlayStation, the staff here, and you the community!

It’s been emotional.

Story Trailer Released Today!

Our Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood Story Trailer is released! Highlighting the conflict between Cesare Borgia and Ezio Auditore da Firenze, this trailer is designed to familiarize you with the most powerful foe Ezio, and possibly any Assassin, has ever faced. Cunning, devious and focused, Cesare Borgia has spent his entire life amassing the awesome power required to bring all of Italy under his reign… all the while ensuring that none could possibly be capable of standing against him.

Only one man could hope to upset Cesare’s carefully orchestrated plans.

I bet you all know who that guy is, hehe.

YouTube Q&A STORM!

My Community Development pals and I have been furiously filming for the last couple of weeks in order to bring you a staggering number of YouTube Q&A videos. Keep your eyes on the Assassin’s Creed YouTube channel for DAILY Q&As!

Even better: the first in this extended series is up today!

I’m excited, in case you couldn’t tell…

A New Challenger Appears!

I know that you have grown to simply adore our weekly multiplayer character reveals on Facebook, and we have a brand new one releasing today! This big bad brute is called The Mercenary and you can check out his fan-exclusive video on our Facebook page.

BETA Has Ended!

Like all good things, our PlayStation 3 exclusive beta has come to an end. Fortunately, you don’t have much longer to wait before being able to play the finished version. Please allow me to thank our dedicated beta testers on behalf of the entire Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood team; your feedback has been invaluable in enabling us to improve our multiplayer experience. Those of you who weren’t in the beta should probably also thank our testers as well – it’s because of their hard work and support that the game that you’ll get on launch day will be of the highest possible quality.

Of course, it’s not like our testers are done, either! We still want to keep the discussion going to ensure that we wring every last detail out of you. So please be sure to pop by our beta forums to participate in the conversations.

Eagle Vision, blade in the crowd, everything’s permitted, yadda yadda yadda…

Introducing Urbanix

Countries: , , , ,

Hello! This is Alex from Nordcurrent. I’d like to talk about Urbanix – a minis title that is available now from PlayStation Store.

urbanix 01

Core Urbanix’s gameplay is a mixture between Xonix and Qix – you control a tiny little tractor that needs to conquer the playfield. When you are travelling over the unoccupied land, you leave a trail. If the trail is hit by an enemy or yourself – you lose a life. Very simple, yet deep gameplay. To get a better idea of what is going on in Urbanix, please have a look at Urbanix video.

Urbanix takes place in three worlds – Town, North Pole and Moon Base. Apart from the visuals, these worlds are fundamentally different in terms of gameplay. In Town, you just need to conquer and empty territory. In North Pole, you need to clear the area from the snow first, and then conquer it (so you need to conquer the area twice) and in Moon Base you need to conquer the area three times.

Each world consists of 50 levels, so you have plenty of work to do.

urbanix 02

We have 3 enemy types in Urbanix – Landrunners, Helisharks and Housecrashers. Landrunners are the easiest and the dumbest ones. All they do is run from one side to another without even changing their direction. If they hit you or your tail, you lose a life. Helisharks are flying after you, and if you’re caught, you need to break away by rapidly pressing the L and R buttons. If you are successful, you will get away; if not, you will lose a life. And finally Housecrashers – they are harmless, but very annoying. They run around and destroy the houses you’ve built. So as soon as you see one, you need to scare it away as fast as you can.

urbanix 03

Urbanix has numerous bonuses, both good and bad. Look out for those, as they might determine your success.

And last but not least, we wanted this game to look good not only on handheld screen, but also on TV. That’s why we’ve gone for full 3D that also looks great on PS3.
