FirstPlay Episode 29

Countries: ,

Hello everyone,

This week I fell over playing football and hit my head on a brick, which, it turns out, meant I had to spend aaages lying down and playing the LittleBigPlanet 2 beta. What’s that, boss? No, still not quite better…

FirstPlay Episode 29

That’s a true story, by the way, and absolutely the thing I’ll be blaming my regular typos on this week. The good news is that it also means episode 29 of FirstPlay, out on the Store this Wednesday, features an in-depth look at what the insanely talented LittleBigPlanet community have been making with the tools from the upcoming sequel.

LittleBigPlanet 2 - FirstPlay Episode 29

We’ve also got one last look at the awesomely frantic sci-fi shooter Vanquish before it’s released this Friday, plus a review of the PS3-exclusive HD update of classic shooter Medal Of Honor: Frontline, which comes packaged with the new game’s Limited Edition, and a review of Robin Hood on Blu-ray.

Vanquish - FirstPlay Episode 29

And there’s more – reviews of Lara Croft And The Guardian Of Light and Worms 2: Armageddon, plus a look at the latest downloadable comics, and a new feature in which two members of the team clash over a hot gaming topic. This week: with the new games nearly upon us, has Modern Warfare 2 or Battlefield: Bad Company 2 ruled online this year?

Finally we’ve got our screenshot galleries, which this week feature upcoming puzzler Swarm, mucky pile-up Blood Drive, the huge Final Fantasy XIV and the brazen Def Jam Rapstar, a game which we’ll have much more on very soon.

Def Jam Rapstar - FirstPlay Episode 29

That’s all just 99p, or less if you buy an £8.99 subscribe for 12 weeks.

We always eager to hear your thoughts and feedback (even with this constant ringing in my ears) and you can get in touch on Twitter at @firstplay_uk, FirstPlay@futurenet.com, or the official EU forums. And don’t forget you can sign up for the FirstPlay newsletter at http://www.firstplay.co.uk/register to have regular news and content updates delivered directly.

Hello!

I hope you all had a great weekend playing SingStar and of course rocking out to SingStar Guitar which was released last week? For all you guitar fiends I am happy to announce that this is the first time we’re including downloadable add-ons for songs on the store. You can see the full list below. We’ll be adding more in future updates so keep a close eye on the blog and the tracklistings.

Which leads me to the bit of information a lot of you have been asking for in the past few weeks. Pricing for add-ons in the store has now been confirmed at GBP 0.40 and 0.50 Euros per add-on. You can also check your respective SingStores for prices not in GBP/Euros.

The songs that will definitely make it on the playlist at my next SingStar party next weekend are: ‘Ma Baker’ by Boney M, ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ by Wheatus and Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell’s ‘You’re All I Need To Get By’. I’ll also be getting the guitars out for, well, probably all of them to be honest. :)

Squaring Up To A Giant Invizimal

Countries: , , , ,

I’m Phil, Product Manager for Invizimals: Shadow Zone on PSP. As you may know, Invizimals is a PSP title that uses cutting edge augmented reality technology (a fancy name for combining real and virtual environments which are interactive in real-time).

I really wanted to share with you what happens when you use a large trap to view your Invizimals, instead of the one usually used with the game. This video shows the OCELOTL moving from a regular trap in my hand to a large 2×2 metre trap.

I’ve also got some behind the scenes videos that I’ll post over the coming weeks in the run up to Invizimals Shadow Zone launching in November.

Let me know what you think.

The Friday Debate – The Skills To Pay The Bills?

Countries: , , , ,

Next time you’re looking down iron sights while strafing through a doorway, reloading and checking the HUD for enemies, take a moment to consider just how many processes your brain is dealing with, and the clinically co-ordinated jig that your fingers and thumbs are performing on the controller.

Now spare a moment for the hapless non-gamer, spinning wildly and firing into the empty sky when thrown into the latest FPS. When you think about it, the seasoned stick-jockey has developed a complex skill set over the years and reactions quicker than a greasy leopard. The question is…

Are you good? I mean, are you really good? If you were that person who still gets the lofted pass and shoot buttons confused in FIFA, or the one who plays MAG and tries to shoot enemies with the medical kit, would you enjoy gaming as much?

Speak your brains in the comments and don’t forget that you can also contribute to this poll in PlayStation Home. Just head to the Polling Booth in Home Square and register your vote.

Do it.
