Every time I try to watch something I get an error message.
The rest of my PS3 brothers in Europe, it is the fault of two groups politicians and the movie studios with distribution laws. Because some of the laws are so antiquated or the ones that were made for internet distribution are so convoluted that the people themselves don’t understand them. The studios want to make sure they get their money because they still don’t totally get the internet. So on one hand you can blame Sony since they own a film studio.

As others have said, it’s impossible to quit the LoveFilm app, as the PS button is disabled. You can hold the PS button down and turn off the console, but that’s it.
Well tested app there guys, well done. Give the engineers another banana.
And once again, the picture quality is truly dismal. I have a 50″ 1080p plasma. Anything lower than 720p looks like garbage. I’d be surprised if LoveFilm’s video is even 240p. I’ve seen higher quality video on a Nintendo DS!

Anyone else having problems logging in? I already have a Lovefilm account but it says my username or password are invalid, which they’re not. Then it helpfully deletes everything I’ve entered. Grr!
And what’s with disabling the PS home button?

I’d never given any thought to Lovefilm tbh purely because it’s a bit of a hassle hooking up the laptop to the TV most of the time (purely as I am lazy) but this app makes it quite convenient.
So I’ve signed up, went for the £9.99 package which seems best for me. I’ve got the 30 day trial to go through first so if I like it, I’ll keep it and if not I’ll cancel before getting charged.
Either way I can’t lose.
I do also hope the rest of our European Brothers and Sisters get some of this kind of love soon. I know I hate being left out when the US get something cool so I feel for you guys and gals.

You can just hold down the ps button and press quit. not ideal i’d agree but it doesn’t mean you have to turn off the console.

I rarely post in these comments sections, mainly because I am always shocked at the childishness displayed by other posters. It’s embarrassing to read and what’s really evident is the complete lack of effort by many of them to find out any facts before posting their rants.
Sony are not the ones who should be ashamed, all they’re doing is creating deals with various companies to expand the range of features available on the PS3. All of which are optional, you don’t have to use any of them.
I appreciate it’s all very “now” to offer immediate comments and feedback, but I wouldn’t miss them if you took them down. Why not offer a link to and appropriate PlayStation forum instead and keep the blog a comment free zone?

@110 gmcm2000
It’s much, much lower quality than DVD. A DVD is 720×576 at 10000 kbit. LoveFilms streams vary in quality, but even at their best I’d say they’re around 512×320 at 300-400kbit. Plus DVDs get 5.1 audio, – all LoveFilm offer is stereo.
Why oh why couldn’t they just do the right thing and offer 1080p with 5.1 sound, you know, like Microsoft have been doing for years now. It can’t be that difficult.

I’d like someone to explain to me how to get the fricking to load up, i’ve left it on the ‘Loading Please Wait’ screen for 10-15 mins six times now throughout the day, nothing downloads, nothing loads up, nothing is saved to HDD, nothing happens at all. I’m on wireless connection, got 95% sig strength, 7,8mbps download speed (at the mo), I ask my friends to test it out on their PS3′s and it loads straight away for them. Its really frustrating me cos the lovefilm website offers no useful advice and no one else appears to be suffering this problem.
EDIT: A guy on my list has the same problem now too.

The cost is really dissapointing.
£5.99 to watch 2 hours of streaming. Thats not even enough to watch a single long film.
I’ll be cancelling at the first opportunity, unless they release a streaming only package that is more cost effective.
Also the app is very bad, connection timeouts and it doesn’t let you use the sony wireless keyboard for searching, etc!!!
I was expecting so much more – this actually make MUBI look like a bargain.

HI Parablax,
Unfortunately there will not be be a streaming only service.

Could someone from SCEE or Lovefilm please comment on the app not loading up properly? It seems there are quite a few people who are finding themselves stuck on the ‘loading’ screen.
Are you aware of the issue, and is there a fix available?
Thank you.

I signed up and the quality is a little low in my opinion… If anything the SOUND needs to be improved first. I started streaming one film and it froze after 5 mins and wouldn’t restart, then I went into something else and the sound had totally GONE.
Restarted the app and watched Corpse Bride with no real problems other than the quality… Good in theory but really needs some work! I will stick with it for now though.

I checked early this morning to see if it will work, but I am still getting stuck on Loading screen.
Doesn’t seem to be a server problem assuming that the early mornings aren’t exactly the busiest of times.
We just want some official response to see that you’ve noted the problem and its getting dealt with.

still sticks on loading screen for me for second day
have tried re-installing it – no joy
this is pretty shabby
Posted on 12 November, 2010 at 3:44 pm by Rose Pickard
Hi loarchie,
This issue has been addressed and is now resolved. These is a new button that allows you to continue anyway so you should not get stuck on the loading page.
Hope this helps.

Also in case nobody else has mentioned it – the standard controls on the Sony PS3 bluetooth remote (Play, Pause etc) do not work in the LoveFilm app.
Quality control next time please.
And that extends to the awful video and sound quality.

I have also tried reinstalling the Lovefilm app three or four times, but still cannot get past the loading screen.
Please could someone respond regarding this error?

Is anybody else getting that annoying “failed to connect message” coming up with the film streaming perfectly well behind, but no way of getting rid unless you cancel the stream. Bloody annoying, sort your error message timing please Lovefilm !!!!
Was so looking forward to this service. Paying £15 with games rentals, and I am seeing the normal 4000 films/tv shows I see on PC..

Can anyone confirm what cutoman said about the 15 quid package making more films available ? I’m on the 10.99 package and most of the stuff is old and not worth watching.

People got the right to complain to this pitiful shady deal Witc SCEE now there is 3 groups of people 1 group can get LF with they debit cards to sign up.
2nd group are restricted from useing it how can a person sign up without a debit card You shafted them.
3rd group LF is Not EU friendly every other region can’t have it even though LF is in demark and germany & few others.
Lastly it been 2 days since launch & what do we get 4 pathetic response No answer to what about useing PSN wallet is that ever comeing, No answer to why my loading screen on for ages from ppl
etc etc. till they fix this Poor port of LF & that what it is.
More ppl will Morn.

Is it just me or is anyone else having a problem accessing more than 100 movies per genre? as an example select horror view in A-Z it will only bring up the first 100, these stop at F. I can’t seem to access G-Z and there is no second page button button to access the rest. as a result of this I’m missing out on hundreds of films. Poor design if you ask me. Did you guys have anyone working in you QA department on this or did you just throw it together really quickly. If this is how its meant to be I will be cancelling my subscription in the next few weeks there no point in paying for this service if only 25% of movies can be accessed via my ps3. Great idea bringing it to the ps3 but bad userability for the paying customer. Just glad I have got the trail and i’m not paying for this yet.

also, it is the lovefilm app which seems to be causing the problem of knocking out the bbc iplayer and you have to delete cookies and cache to fix it etc.
I can pick a film from lovefilm but STILL cannot get a single film to stream
connection of 6.7mps

Having just read the comment about enabling javascript in the PS3 browser, I did so and it works!
No more waiting for the Loading Page hang and the quality is rather good, with an additional benefit of fast forwarding and rewinding.
I also experienced the rather odd BBC iPlayer corruption which was resolved by following instructions on another forum and deleting the browser cache.
With two resolves requiring changes to the browser, perhaps the tech people should investigate this, as there is clearly a conflict or two twixt these apps?

Sorry, I forgot to give thanks for an excellent new service which, combined with PlayTV and a DLNA link to our NAS in the attic, has turned our PS3 into a rather nifty media centre! Cheers, Sony!

I was so excited when I read about this…but alas…no subtitle option, which renders the whole online streaming thing useless to people like me, who can’t hear properly and need subs.
Maybe someone at Lovefilm or Sony could fix this?
C’mon it’s for the disabled and needy!
AND it’s nearly Xmas!
….please?…

Friends in Europe:
Dont worry…you’re not missing out on anything. Lovefilm streaming to ps3 in the UK is absolutely pants. Are you old enough to remember the days of VHS? That’s essentially what you’re getting here in terms of picture quality. Most of the movies are the stuff you find in the bargain bins in your local video store. 10 for £2.

Hopefully this is just a start. The quality is poor in an age when practically everything is in HD. The app is also extremely clunky and slow to nav around. I’m optimistic for the future but hope to see an improvement if I am to stick around beyond the 30 day trial.

Really frustrated now… Followed LF’s and Sony’s advice of enabling java in the web browser, and STILL getting stuck on the LOADING page… Now my iPlayer won’t stream either… Hate this PS3 junk, causes nothing but problems… When will Apple make a games console?!
