Hello everyone,
Episode 33 of FirstPlay goes live on the PlayStation Network this Wednesday, and we’ve got plenty of gaming goodness to brighten up your dreary November days, including another chance for you to grab the exclusive Premiere Manager demo, and get your hands on our Blacklight: Tango Down theme. We’ve also got an electrifying preview of mega-sequel Infamous 2, as well as reviews of Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom, Shaun White’s Skateboarding, The Sims 3, and The X-Factor, (that’s the game, rather than a detailed analysis of Katie’s questionable talents) along with our verdict on The Losers on Blu-ray.
Over in the Network Highlights section, we’re serving up another helping of our Castlevania boss-guide, checking out the bestest hand-stitched LittleBigPlanet levels, chatting to industry legend Atsushi Inaba about the making of Vanquish, and reviewing the exploits of our favourite bonfire-dodger, with Sonic The Hedgehog: Episode 1.
We’re also going super-hero crazy with new screenshots from Batman: Arkham City, DC Universe Online, Marvel Vs Capcom 3: Fate Of Two Worlds, and we’re uploading ourselves to the internets (no, not in that way) with Tron: Evolution.
You can download episode 33 of FirstPlay for 99p, or better still go for a 90-day subscription for £8.99.
If you have any feedback for us, or want to make any suggestions, then please get in touch! You can find us on Facebook, on Twitter @firstplay_uk, on email FirstPlay@futurenet.com, or the interweb official EU forums.
See the Future of PS3. First.

I haven’t seen that inFamous 2 screenshot before, is this going to be some new footage? If so I’ll buy in an instant.

Is this weeks firstplay also riddled with misleading information? Dead nation last week mentioned no co op play but they had confirmed that more a month ago. Sort it out firstplay. Old footage and old news. Definitely not renewing my subscription.

@3 And don’t forget that they said LBP2 was out in November about two-three weeks after it got delayed to 2011. I love FirstPlay, but the thought of not renewing it has crossed my mind for the first time since episode 7.

Why does this blog (and PSN preview video) NEVER have details of the freebies with each episode of FirstPlay? Have they stopped giving things away with each one?

@& Sorry about that. Info is thoroughly checked at time of submission to PSN QA, but obviously we’ve had a lot of release dates moving recently. Sometimes we get a chance to resubmit the episode, and we’re always working on bringing the lead time down to get newer stuff in. More news on that, hopefully, in the New Year.
In the meantime, are there games – or areas of gaming – which you’d like us to do more on?

@8 I don’t know how you missed it but the first paragraph says: …including another chance for you to grab the exclusive Premiere Manager demo, and get your hands on our Blacklight: Tango Down theme.

Ah OK. Thanks Retro_1973. I did miss that.
However, having looked back through some previous First Play posts (33-29), I can only find mention of Premiere Manager demo (last week). I can’t see any freebies on the others.
So are they only giving away demos now (and the same one 2 weeks running!!)? No Minis? And just the occasional theme? Shame.

They had a PSN avatar, Dynamic Theme and some PlayStation HOME items a while back. They were also mentioned on the blog each week.

areas of gaming, why is the PSN standing still these days, no new plus features have hit, no real PSN improvements in terms of for gaming have hit. and first play still has not migrated to playstation plus.
why dont you do an issue where you goto the main guys at sony and do video question on these topics.
cross game chat / universal party system.
playstation home intergration.
custom soundtracks making its way into more than a handfull of games.
how sub 720p games are allowed passed QA and why more games are not 1080p as standard…
why some of the best games out there dont require installs yet poorer games do, and what are we doing to help developers make games not require an install.
i guarantee you will sell loads of episodes with that interview on if we get answers that are better than, we are looking into it.
if sonys software is preventing these features being implamented, then isnt it time we redid the software.

@11 We had an exclusive Swords n Soldiers demo prior to that. Obviously they’re tricky to secure, but we’re still working on it.

@13 An interview with the tech guys who do the PS3 firmware is something we’ve been chasing for a long time for the magazine. Next get to chat on the record with a Sony exec we’ll include some of those questions, especially re cross-game chat and what the plans are for PSN+.

why aren’t you guys releasing it for the other regions yet?

Hey Mr Tim, I’ve also mentioned to Grand Master Ditum before, I’d love to see more of your own experiences ( Scary moments, Heavy Rain) as these are rather good. And some more downtime with the Sony “question Dodgers” (sorry, Execs) so we can see what they are thinking of doing to make PS3 better.
Either way, loving FirstPlay and will (as always) be re-subbing
P.s. When’s the next batch of Top Modnation Racers tracks, as mine was selected but never shown
xx
Much Love

@dgnfly
Cause it is UK based.. Cause the rest does not deserve or need an equivalent of Firstplay.. Let’s just ignore the rest of the regions some more one day they will all not care any more.. And just leave things how it is..

I don’t see why Europeans are fussing over firstplay. Seriously you aren’t missing out on much. Just look around on the web to find the latest “up to date” news, trailers and videos. Until firstplay differentiates from what you can obtain for free on the web then the only reason to buy firstplay is when it has a decent freebie.

@20 We’ve got quite a few of our gaming experiences coming up – including some I’m pretty ashamed of! Thanks for the support, as ever, and glad you’re enjoying it.

Look at that..
Why is FirstPlay only available to the UK and not the rest of Europe? (Trondp007, maggi 85)
FirstPlay was initially developed by Future Publishing in the UK and as such, we felt that it would be prudent to trial it in the UK before we could roll it out further. We are in discussions with publishers in other countries about offering local versions of FirstPlay and hopefully we will have some positive news for you soon.
So my question is when..!! Make it happen..
