Hi everyone – a quick round-up and update of some LittleBigPlanet news for you (with even more big news to come later this week…).
Collector’s Edition
First of all – I wanted to provide you all with some further details about the LittleBigPlanet 2 EU Collector’s Edition, as I know that many of you had some concern and frustration with last week’s announcement.
To recap – the Collector’s Edition comes in exclusive SteelBook special packaging, and contains a voucher to download the following additional content:
- 5 PSN Avatars
- 7 Sackboy Costumes
- Disney / Pixar’s Toy Story 3′s “Alien” Costume
- Disney’s TRON: Legacy “Clu” Costume
- The Muppets’ “The Great Gonzo” Costume
- Even More Animals’ “Crocodile” Costume
- Even More Animals’ “Vulture” Costume
- Even More Animals’ “Cobra” Costume
- Even More Animals’ “Mandrill” Costume
One important and cool thing to note is that this core Collector’s Edition, with all of the exclusive additional content, has the same recommended retail price (RRP) as the standard edition.
On top of all of these ‘core’ contents, in many countries there will also be additional or expanded bundles available that include some cool real-world LittleBigPlanet items. And there are four other exclusive costumes that are also available as pre-order bonuses – Jak &Daxter and Ratchet & Clank.
The ways in which you can get hold of the Collector’s Edition and pre-order items, and the availability of expanded bundles with additional physical goodies will vary by country, so look out for specific details from retailers near you. But in the meantime I wanted to give you all some updated details so that you have a clearer idea of the options available.
Home Space Update
Next up, in case you missed it… Last week the LittleBigPlanet Space within PlayStation Home updated with a brand new multiplayer mini-game. The LittleBigDerby is great fun for up to 8 players – check out more details here, or head into Home and see it for yourself!
New Featurette – The Grabinator
And finally, there’s a new LittleBigPlanet 2 featurette trailer doing the rounds – this time focusing on the mighty power of the Grabinator.
Now, awesome as Sackboy is in so many ways, sometimes his little arms just can’t shift that irritating obstacle. There was a time when you would have to find another way around it – but that will soon be a thing of the past. Thanks to the Grabinator power-up, you’ll be able to grab, carry and throw all kinds of objects. It might be a crate, it might be a basketball, it might even be a fellow Sack-person… either way, pretty soon you’ll wonder how you ever did without it!
That’s it for now – but I’ll be around in the comments to answer all the questions I can. And as I said above – more exciting LBP news to come, later this week…

i think now the content is worth the price but its still not a collectors edition as there is nothing to collect. and i havent seen any plushies in holland.
and also i want something with the game that only a few people would have and not some plushie everyone can go out and buy

Good to know the retail price is the same. Now I’m sure my gameshope will just swap my preorder of the normal edition in the Collector’s (which, angry or not, I would’ve bought anyway)
But euhm, any news on getting any of that real life stuff in countries other then the UK? I’m craving for a sackboy plush or action figure and just can’t get my hands on one… It would be nice if the bookends and the plush would be available here.

We all should be an interesting possible user base.. When will it be launched already.. It is taking like forever.. With no word.
You know what SCEE not communicating is equal to no understanding. Like I said before sharing is caring so share the info with us.
When:
Video store
Comic store
descend PSONE classics
Netflix/lovefilm type of services
Cloud saves
Xchat
And so many more that the fanbase/userbase is crying out for.

The price is what makes it somewhat alright. It still is more like one of those EA first run “Special Editions” (Battlefield, MoH, NFS etc.) and not even close to what a LBP CE could and should be.

RRP of €69.99 is pretty steep for a normal game.
It’s on point when its a collectors edition with some exciting extra’s, but that isn’t the case either.
I’ll be importing.

@wbrinkman what about the dlc content..?

Already on the disc for everyone, basicly withholding content from non-collectors edition buyers – and to be fair, I don’t rate DLC very much anyway.

If this turns out to be the same price as the regular edition then I’ll buy, but simply making the price the same as the standard version doesnt make it anymore a collectors edition than it was when first mentioned, there is nothing to collect in this collectors edition and the cover for the game is awful I prefere the standard edition cover for the game with the happy sack faces on it, not one sack face on collectors edition just a huge zip how bland

@ mitran
There will be 10 playable move lvl’s on the disc when it ships and they plan to release the tools to create your own lvls using move later, which you will be able to download from PSN for free

so you took all the negative feedback and online petitions and instead of taking them on board threw them out and basically re-iterated your position and then left it too the regional retailers to rectify your mistake at asuming what consumers in PAL regions wanted. i’m sorry i dont buy this rubbish. Many might forgive you, i wont until we get the collectors edtion that we PAL consumers deserve.

@Alex
“On top of all of these ‘core’ contents, in many countries there will also be additional or expanded bundles available that include some cool real-world LittleBigPlanet items.”
A simple question: These “real-world LittleBigPlanet items” will those be exlusively bundled with the game or will they also be sold seperately? because I am looking for exclusive real world items to be bundled with my collectors edition, since that is what a collectors edition should include. Thnx!

so how much does it cost in australian dollars??

It seems that your information regarding the price may incorrect, one online retailer has the collectors edition at an RRP of £59.99 and the regular edition at £49.99. The actual difference in listed price is £17. If these RRPs are correct that is still far less content than the US edition for £5 more! Think we are still getting the poor end of the deal despite your reassurances!

Eight retailers on Gamestracker.com all have £55 for the price of the collectors edition. Are they all wrong? Or is the regular edition £55 as well?! Still shafted then and offered false promises to get us back onside. Weak!

NOT THE SAME PRICE AT ALL!

Posted on 19 November, 2010 at 11:38 pm by lisa_2k6
I thought Gamestracker.com was a price comparison site to find the cheapest prices? I can get LBP2 standard edition for £37.99 with free 1st class delivery, I dont see any collectors editions yet in the stores I regularly use tho.
Oh and thnx Alex for your lack of response, I guess the “real-world LittleBigPlanet items” can be bought without even buying the game, you need to change the info for this edition as its NOT a collectors edition its a stealbook edition. SCEE have no idea what a collectors edition is. A collectors edition as in REAL collectables for example, coin collectors DO NOT collect virtual coins the same as stamp collectors do not collect virtual stamps etc… I hope this helps

I don’t understand how everyone is all happy and calm now, SCEE will still end up giving us crappy collectors editions in the future since they know everyone is happy enough with a collectors edition which is the same price as the standard edition.
Europe should be getting the bookends and plushie, it’s not just about LBP2 or the price, it’s about all the future amazing collectors editions that will come out for the USA and we’ll end up getting shaffted all over again by SCEE

So Alex, any response at all to the fact that so far all retailers are charging £17 more for the ‘collectors edition’ when you said it was going to be the same price as the regular edition? Even the listed RRP is £10 different. Not such a “cool thing to note” it seems!

Normal edition it is..

Posted on 22 November, 2010 at 3:24 pm by flyingeagle666
They really do not understand what a COLLECTORS edition is do they lol
We want material goods which can’t be bought anywhere else. And also if we get the CE we expect to get ALL the DLC and not specific depending on retailers. Thats what you do with the Standard Edition and not the Collectors Edition. So far you might as well call it the ‘Extra DLC overpriced under-contented crappy case edition’
Another annoying thing also is I bet the retailer specific costumes won’t even be available in the PS Store lol for us to buy if we didnt get it from that retialer……O i know Il just buy a couple of copies so I get everything -_-

Hi,does anyone know where you can pre order the Collectors edition in Ireland or the UK? and if I were to order the UK version would it work in Ireland with the DLC and please don’t tell me Zavvi because it will be released there on the 21st of January because I want to get it on the 1st Jan. I checked amazon too but it’s not there!

You won’t get it anywhere on 1st January. The game’s release date in Europe is 21st January, so that is the date you get it.

Typical, but I will still be getting the Collector’s Edition from Game.
Thoroughly disappointed that I cannot find one list of EU online shops that will be selling the Ratchet, Clank, Jak and Daxter costumes.
Does anyone have a list of shops for EU?
