While many of you are no doubt racing around Gran Turismo 5‘s Madrid track at home, we’re in the city itself for a launch event like no other I’ve seen in my time working with games.
We’ve got interactive installations all over the city, a night drive where we’ll have sports cars cruising around this gorgeous city and, of course, plenty of opportunity to play the game that everyone is talking about right now.
I’ll be taking pictures throughout the evening and adding them to the GT5 slideshow below; be sure to refresh the page to see the latest batch. I’ll also be popping in and out of the comments to let you know what’s going on and furiously tweeting from @PlayStationEU.

Kazunori Yamauchi has just given a speech about the launch of GT5 and unveiled the Red Bull X1 on-stage. I’m going to be kicking around here all night and gradually adding more images to the slideshow when things really get kicking. There are two Red Bull test drivers here and they’re going to be driving people around the Madrid streets rather fast… not sure if it’s legal but it’s happening and now I’m off to get my name on the list…

Where are you? I’m in madrid and dont see you…

We’re at City Hall. Are you here somewhere? The presentations are over now and people are kicking around waiting for the night drives. There was a mob of journalists around Kazunori as he came off the stage. Man, that man must be tired.

The X1 Prototype has actually been built! That is insane. Can you get any video footage of it in action?

To be honest with you, I’m not sure if it’s drivable or just a shell, but it looks pretty shiny all the same.

It’s cool, it’s pretty late now and yes, everyone is too busy playing the game to read about us celebrating it!

I’m very sad to say this but the GT5 have some serious problems within the game, just look to the Honda Civic you win when you beat the FF cup, it looks pretty bad! Sometimes the loadings seem to be soooo long that makes you thing the PS3 just crashed, and I’m sure it happened to me just a few minutes ago, besides…MY THE HELL CAN’T I CHANGE THE WHEEL RIM IN THE STANDARD CARS???? WHY??
Oh, and I installed it on the PS3 on the first game run and my PS3 is the slim version with latest update of course, and a patch right on the first day? Man I’m very disappointed…

I haven’t really experienced any loading trouble (and I haven’t properly installed it yet even)… But I do agree that some of the “Standard” cars look kind of awful, especially close up. Seems like PD went for quantity over quality this game unfortunately.
Oh well, aside from that the rest of the game seems great… Not overly fussed about the graphics anyway.

i like the game and everything about it EXCEPT Who was the idiot who did the controls?
Why did they put the REVERSE on the triangle [DELETED], any other common sence would of put it on the circle or on the right analog.
Posted on 25 November, 2010 at 1:07 pm by James Gallagher
You know you can completely overhaul the controls to whatever you like in the options menu.

The guy with the Red Bull hoody standing on stage next to Kazunori Yamauchi is Scuderia Toro Rosso’s (Red Bull Racing’s sister team) Spanish driver, Jaime Alguersuari.
Also, the Red Bull X1 Prototype is just a shell, with tiny wheeleys underneath! I know this because the company my sister works for (IDC – Industrial Design Consultancy) built the thing! Can’t wait to drive it in the virtual world though!

Can anyone please tell me where within GT5, the full Nurburgring track lies? I can only find the GP track version, not the full version.
Thanks

I found that it is in the Special Mercedes events but I cannot see it within the time trial section.

Hey, James! Tell to GT5 makers that GT5 IS EPIC FAIL!! There is over 1000 cars, but NO PORSCHE?! [DELETED]?!?!?! How they can add ”Volvo” but no Porsche? Oh, I though that I’m going to get this on Christmas, but FORGET IT! ALL I WANT IS THE PORSCHE IN GT5!

just watched the unboxing of the sig edition and ive got to say what a fuss, white gloves?? yet he opens the game and everything else
wow though now is this gonna have its own bank holiday as that would be better than the 1 they just announced for prince will what a silly country we live in cant justify spending the £160 on it thats an absurd price for a usb stick wallet and keyring plus a few extra cars the box is nice though anyway waste of money ill buy 4 games out of that athanku
Posted on 25 November, 2010 at 2:00 pm by James Gallagher
The white gloves were just a bit of fun – lighten up!
The Signature Edition is pretty pricey but of course you’ve still got the option of just getting the game. Aren’t choices wonderful?

why does our Gran turismo 5 CE suck so much compared 2 the U.S one seems i won’t be buying this game anyday soon i wanted that CE instead off the lame one we got.
and it seems that contest for winning Mercedes SLS AMG doesen’t count for our country with the signature edition so they basicly get scammed again.

So GT5 is forcing me to upgrade the firmware, but I don’t accept the firmware conditions of use.
What am I supposed to do?
Just bend over and let Sony do what they will with no recourse, or simply not play the game I just paid for?
