Hey there, Fight fans.
Thanks to those of you who have given us feedback on The Fight since it launched; today we’re bringing you the first update to the game. This update resolves several small issues reported by players and includes the ability to make your fighter transparent in order to get a better view of your opponent.
If that weren’t enough, you will now be able to use all of the boss characters as well as the main man, Duke, to use in both online and offline multiplayer modes as part of the Duke DLC pack.
The patch will be available to download next time you start up the game and the Duke DLC will be available from PlayStation Store on 15 December.
The Fight School
The Fight is a brand new type of fighting game. It puts your moves and your actions directly into the game, with an unprecedented level of freedom. Your own skill is the only limit.
But as with all great new things, there is, of course, some great new rules and details to learn. Freedom is better when you know what to do with it, so we’ve put together these little bonus tutorials to help everyone get to grips with this wholly new way to play fighting games.

1. Does Duke DLC give the new locations? Or are they only just new skins?
2. “update resolves several small issues” – can you give details?
thanks!

1: Duke gives you the Duke Character and also allows you to fight online with him and all other boss characters you have unlocked in the career mode
2: Just minor issues – The main addition is transparency to you r fighter to enable you to have a better view of your opponent

Is there still no demo? This game was the main reason I bought a Move cos I really liked the videos though could only afford one Move. Can it be played with just one?
Posted on 30 November, 2010 at 7:32 pm by John McLaughlin
Due to the fact we’d have to include all the tutorial videos to show people how to play the game correctly, you won’t believe how many people can’t throw a punch
p, we have held off a demo due to the size of it.
However we are looking into a way of providing everyone with a way of experiencing the awesome 1 to 1 nature of the game. Keep tuned !

how about adding an optional lock on enemy option and if you want to back up you either back up yourself or hold a button tilt the controller back and if you release the button it will automatically return to lock on. (i don’t own the game but i will buy it right away if you add this otherwise I’ll buy it later don’t worry

I love motion games hopefully tomorrow i will go and buy Sport Champions, The Fight and £20 credit for the Ps Store so that I can buy Kung-Fu Live. It looks like I will be in shape this holiday
(Ps I am choosing these Games over Cod: Blackops, red dead and Civ 5. call me crazy)

You may be crazy – but man how super fit will you be

well maybe it looks better than boxing on wii but it still doesn’t look like real fighting. i know it’s just a game but with move precision it could teach people some basics how to throw punches and hold guard properly.
Posted on 30 November, 2010 at 7:36 pm by John McLaughlin
That’s what Duke is for in the tutorial videos.

Unfortunately some people still don’t watch and listen which is why we have created more hints and tips videos for you all up there

Thanks for the videos. Even being a big fan of this severely underrated game and feeling I’ve got the basics down, I still think I picked up a few good pointers here.
And I’m looking forward to checking out the new character transparency option later tonight.

So can it use just one Move or should I ask someone for the game and an extra Move for christmas?

Posted on 30 November, 2010 at 8:29 pm by Carnivius_Prime
@8 I wouldn’t call you crazy. Can’t stand CoD or Civ5 myself and Red Dead was one huge massive disappointment of bad game design and glitchy crapness. At least this looks fun.

@Carnivius_Prime
It’s playable with one Move controller + DS3, but it feels severely crippled.
Although my impression of that controller combination is admittedly only based on around 10-15 minutes out of curiosity – after that I was very happy to turn my second Move controller back on.

I bought the game today…damn I like it! It’s very accurate and I can’t follow the bad reviews. If you handle it correct it’s a hell of a fun xD
Machete as coach…damn I like that!
In germany the patch seems not to be released yet? No transparent fighter…when will the patch be available for GER? So I have to smash some hammers around

hey John.
I bought this day 1, love it but, there are some minor things i’d like to see “fixed”.
Movement: please try and get “side stepping” possible, as in beeing able to move with your legs a teeny weeny bit, its hard to stay in 1 position for a longer period of time while sending puches
Stats: after a match, how about stats… i mean..how many hits and misses and how much damage it did…and how about a rating system for the most powerfull / timed etc move in a match? (both online and in campaign)
ah and finally… how about a warm up session and an relax/quit session.. i mean.. damn man, my muscles hurt like F… after just 5 minutes if i don’t do a warm up session on my own .. would be better if we had it ingame as it can’t be good for the body with such movements and power trows with cold muscles.
other than that.. love the game and i will get the DLC for sure

Hi Amiga Guru,
Check out the tips video, it shows what happens if you move too much, however you can move a little bit.
Basically treat it like a shadow boxing exercise, it is all about upper body movement. Just bob and weave and throw punches.
This link shows off the one to one and HT even more http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15C8j6o9fKI
Now in answer to your questions.
Stats: There are stats after a game, check out the prompts in the bar at the end of a fight, you can cycle through them with your controller.
Warm ups – We recommend you cool down, not just with The Fight, but any Motion based game where you are very active for a period of time. Watch out for our forthcoming DLC in the new Year which will take your upper and lower body fitness workout to a new level!

hey hey
im sorry but not providing a demo is a cop out. feel free to make the excuses you have provided but thats truly an excuse.
with a 1:1 game there is a high level of intuitivness and gamers in this modern century are way more advanced than previous generations.
in this post alone you proved that there is a way of providing the tutorials. . USE A VIDEO ! ! ! !
there is nothing stopping you from providing a single fight demo and providing the videos on either the psn as seperate downloads or using a diferent medium (such as your website or that famous video upload site)
that way you can provide a demo for those of us who are very interested in the game but are nervous to step in the ring and those who are n00bs or intuitivly challenged they can download or watch the videos.
Posted on 1 December, 2010 at 11:23 am by John McLaughlin
No Cop Out.
Unfortunately 1 to 1 is not as intuitive as you believe, the varied reviews i believe proves this to be true. The videos would need to be provided in every European language and therefore be huge.
If it was as simple as you believe we would have done so already
Rest assured we are looking at a special demo that will require no videos and be real easy to pick up and play, and most of all – Enjoy!

secondly you deftly sidestepped the “other issues” i think that those with the game have a right to know what was patched and those who are in the stands watching your every move would like to see just how much dedication you guys are putting into the game.
from your interview with the iwaggle guy (hes awesome) you said that “…Regarding transparency, we discussed having it as an option. But we run at 60fps, and making the character see-through would have had a negative effect on that…”
now your providing it :/
i really wanted this game and still do but with mixed reviews and alot of issues mentioned and none directly addressed its a no demo no buy title for me.
Posted on 1 December, 2010 at 11:30 am by John McLaughlin
Hi,
No sidestepping here unless i’m dancing.
Yes we were correct in saying that we had to maintain our framerate which is why we could not maintain transparency for launch.
The reason for this is that we need to be content and code locked a long time before launch so QA can concentrate on bug fixes. In the time since we have been content locked our team has been beavering away on optimising the code to the extent we could provide a transparency option via a patch.
A game is not finished a week or two before it hits the shops, you are looking at months(pending bug fixes of course)
I hope this gives you a little insight into the dev process, and i hope you perhaps rent the game to see how it feels to you.
Cheers

Hi John, Thanks for youre quick response.
The tips video will help
As for stats, yeah i forgot to add that there are stats but i would like to see what move did what etc, which move was the best and what kind of damage. While playing you can see that both on the actual body movement and with the skeleton avatar thing, would’ve been awesome if we could replay the “best punch” via slow motion video and see damage amount etc.
(sometimes its hard to see why i won or lost..)
Warm ups, damn man ..it’s not easy to start slowly haha, its fun you know and when i have friends over they go like from starting the game to going nearly mental punching in a matter of seconds…and then 5 minutes later they have to use the couch or the floor to regain stamina and muscle movement haha.
Looking forward to the 2011 DLC!.
ah and by the way, the punching ball is probably the most fun training excercise in the game, 10 minutes of that and i feel like Sly Stallone after fighting Dolph Lundgren in Rocky IV.
PS: Xdev .. is that part of SCEE or a totally diffrent 2nd/3rd party house? , i ask as i have seen that Xdev name in most Move titles so far and i have not heard of Xdev before (PSP, PSone,PS2).
Posted on 1 December, 2010 at 11:36 am by John McLaughlin
Glad you are enjoying it. Keep playing and it will surely improve tone and burn those calories
We did look into providing a highlights replay, but thought it best to give players the option of viewing the full fight. Often on highlights replays i find although it shows the best of things, sometimes it misses out on something you would like to see in particular, so i hope you understand why we took this direction.
Will look into your request on stats, but no promises though
Xdev is an SCEE External Development studio that works closely with developers across Europe to bring you some of the most popular games on Playstation.
LBP, KZ2, Heavy Rain, the buzz franchise to name but a very few of the great titles we have had the pleasure of working on including super cool PSN titles such as Dead Nation, Super Stardust, Crash Commando and Savage Moon. Hopefully when you see the Xdev logo you will know you will be getting a great game

thanks for the responses.
my level of expectations nowdays is very high and i feel that devs have let down gamers on a large scale and with price points so high being burned on a game makes me less likely to buy in the future.
one of the biggest things i look for now is how the developers treat the gamers. it is refreshing to see you respond to the comments posted with what information you are able to provide.
FYI the fight and NFS: hot pursuit are next in my rental list but with the fight being a casual game (drop in, drop out) its a game id prefer to buy and keep rather than rent cause there isnt a demo :/
thanks again for the responses. now if you could just say what those “other issues” were. . . .. .
Posted on 1 December, 2010 at 12:34 pm by John McLaughlin
The other ‘issues’ where just very minor bugs that have gone unnoticed by the community, but we wanted to address anyway, especially relating to some trophy exploits.
It has now been brought to our attention there are a couple of random online issues that we will strive to address for the next patch which will be released prior to our next round of DLC.
Hope that satisfies your curiosity
And i hope you get to enjoy the rental. Please stay tuned for info on potential demo!

Although the reviews were rather bad, after seeing all the positive feedback from players on all the gaming forums, I decided to ignore the reviews and just buy the game. Also the responses we got here from John McLaughlin are truly awesome, which only further affirms my decision to supports the devs.
One thing, though, would be great to have in the game, and that is some kind of an arcade mode (such as bronze cup in Sports Champions), where you can play a match having all your stats high with an assist in the depth movement of your boxer. I say this because such a setup would be great to demonstrate the game to the newcomers, while also having available the option to go hardcore if the players whish so.

Hello and good night,
first of all, i would like to give my thanks to the people that made this game possible and available on PS3. I gained a lot of weight in the last year, and because of this game i can have the best workout i can still inside the house.
second, i just played the game, and the transparency update looks ok.
I have made a group on FACEBOOK, named The Fight: Lights Out ONLINE PLAYERS so that we can somehow arrange online fights.
Speaking of that, i think its still early for a sequel, so i hope you guys can make some of these ideas available through a DLC:
( these ideas were first brought out by 9thGenHero on YouTube )
Female fighters
( there r some serious tuff girls out there )
Online Street Gangs
( friends joining up and creating tattoos, fighting style, own turf , clothes .. and so on )
hope to be making any sense, and i’ll be happy if someone reply’s

Thanks for your kind words Outlaw.
We take on board all comments for potential updates so keep them coming.
Keep fighting and shift those calories

Hi,
I have been for 2 weeks and I love the game.
In your next patch, could you guys fix these 2 issues:
1) When you go into the stats menu, the amount of calories burned listed for endurance fighting is too high. For example, after an endurance sparing session where I burn 100 calories, when I go into the main menu and look up my stats for all endurance sparing sessions, it increased the total number of calories by over 1000 calories.
2) After a fight, the heal fighter menu will only come up after you get 3 injuries. If you get only 1 or 2 injuries, the menu does not show up. This is kinda annoying during multiplayer because after every fight, I need to exit multiplayer, go back to single player, and go to the injuries menu. Maybe 1 to 2 injuries isnt too bad, but when I play online, i do not want to have ANY disadvantage over my opponent. I thinking it would be better if the heal player menu shows up after a fight if the fighter sustains any injury (at least do this for multiplayer).
Posted on 6 December, 2010 at 3:55 pm by John McLaughlin
We’ll look into any stats issues for the next update. Also looking into the Injuries for Online play

Thanks for the update and the videos, they are really useful. One thing missing is that you dont need to stand as far from the TV as in many other games… I was very surprised how much better the game became once i moved half a meter towards the screen compared to position in which i play Sports Champions.

First of all respeto! Total respeto for you guys
I just wanted to mention the stats problem too with endurance sparring and ask what about fixed distance fighting? Like many of us I use this game for calorie burning too and it would be nice if I just had to concentrate on punching and not tilting my move controller that does not burn much calories
I know it would completely change game balance so maybe it should be only available in training mode (maybe only after maxing out stats), split screen and optionally in multiplayer matches. It would be a much more enjoyable workout then. Anyway The Fight is the best use of motiong controllers so far for me.

Posted on 21 December, 2010 at 10:04 am by wasmic_pl
John,
Are You planning introduction of an optional on-screen real-time information on the strength of each punch? I know there are general stats after the fight available (average and max). I would like to improve the way I am throwing strong punches and reduce the quantity of weak punches. My current style with strength statistics maxed out is a lot of weak punches with average per fight of around 120 points per punch whereas my stronger punches are at around 400. My record is at around 600 points and I’ve seen some on-line stats of 1000 points
.
Best Regards
