‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update 1st December 2010

'Heads-Up' Game Store Update 1st December 2010

It’s the ‘Heads-Up’date’ and it’s a relatively small update compared to the last couple, (the calm before the storm) but we’ve got some long awaited bits for you today.

What can I say? It’s Dead Nation – perfectly timed for a Hallowe… er… well it’s out anyway and if you’re not particularly fond of hordes of the undead attempting to eat your spicy brains, you can get to making those digital Christmas cards with Beat Sketcher.

Another BD title makes the leap to digital today as well – if you’ve been enjoying AC: Brotherhood recently you can check out where the saga began with Altair and the original Assassin’s Creed.

With the minis this week we have the mobile hit, Edge and if you’ve been enjoying PAC-MAN from last week but wish you could take it with you everywhere, we’ve got the slightly less feature-rich but no less awesome PAC-MAN CE in minis format too.

On PSP you can boogie with MJ in MJ: The Experience (Shamone!), you can de-rez with TRON Evolution, you can subvert expectations and turn from villain to hero with Megamind: The Blue Defender or manage football with, um, Football Manager. I also urge you to try out No Heroes Allowed! since we have a demo going live this week – it’s a real marmite game but I would recommend it if you like a challenge and oddball humour.

That’s all for now – Happy Advent. Resist the temptation to open all the doors on your calendar and gorge yourself on chocolate that isn’t really chocolate.

Yes Pac Man on the PSP!!!!!! Its about time. (Virtual hug Ross)

Chocobo115 1 December, 2010 @ 1:03 pm   2

:O Exactly on time! Anything new on the Toki HD game by Golgoth studio? Think they said it would be out this year? Or maybe you’re not allowed to talk about it? :/

    Ross McGrath 1 December, 2010 @ 1:06 pm

No I don’t have any info but it would be up to them to share it anyway – you know I get in trouble if I give out release dates.

Genki-Rocket 1 December, 2010 @ 1:03 pm   3

Some more move-based demos and content would be great… move controller currently rivalling my wii for dustiness!

Where is under siege?

Hi Ross

Sounds like we can expect something big for Christmas right??

Dead Nation is something I will get for sure!!

Stupid snow isn’t allowing me to get to the shops, so I won’t be able to gorge myself on chocolate for a few days. Although luckily I’ve got Cuboid, Abe’s Exodus, and Dead Nation to get me through the storm :)

In case anyone is wondering the new Lara Croft DLC does not have any trophies.

alkyonides 1 December, 2010 @ 1:06 pm   7

£23.99 for assassin’s creed? You could buy it brand new on disc for a tenner or less. That must be a typo, or the publisher has started the xmas drinking early

    Ross McGrath 1 December, 2010 @ 1:10 pm

Of course it isn’t a typo – Ubisoft can charge what they want to charge. If you’re unhappy with the price then go get it on disc and Ubi will get the message that you think they’ve charged too much.

I happen to think that the pricing for Red Faction: Guerrilla was about right for Digital BD games of that age, but that’s just me.

Silent_Gig 1 December, 2010 @ 1:06 pm   8

Dead Nation 8.99 with ps+ discount right?

kingkrunch456 1 December, 2010 @ 1:08 pm   9

Nothing for me except the PS+ update. But, I’ll hold you to your word about the calm before the storm. Would it be about those PSone titles you mentioned?

anonymus212 1 December, 2010 @ 1:08 pm   10

anyway, ross, i wonder could you try sort out something about the blue toad xmas theme released last week.

it is given free in the package of episodes 1-6 (which is at an extremely reduced price).

however, existing owners of episodes 1-6 have to pay for the theme ! I think the existing owners should get the theme for free as they have paid more for the game and supported the game

    James Gallagher 1 December, 2010 @ 1:21 pm

I just sent a nudge to Relentless and will reply again here if they get back to me today.

SpiderMike_X 1 December, 2010 @ 1:09 pm   11

Just Dead Nation for me. And I had birthday money to spend too…shame. Seems I’ll opt for some Fable III DLC on XBL instead.

    Ross McGrath 1 December, 2010 @ 1:19 pm

Well I’m not stopping you. Sorry we don’t have anything else you want this week but that’s not really our fault now, is it? We can only povide what we’ve got to give you. :)

No Dead Nation demo? Jesus christ! How can they expect us to throw 13 euro’s at a downloadable game without knowing what it is? They’re not getting my money.

identity25 1 December, 2010 @ 1:09 pm   13

Burnout Dominator on the essentials looks good, they tend to never have the file size on when they move to essentials, so can you tell me how big it is please.

Also any idea anyone when Angry Birds is coming out?

Nice reduction on Pirates! I was just about to buy it last week actually, although Disgaea is taking up faaarrrr too much of my time. :)

can you please please please tell me when duels of the planewalkers will be available over here

came out in the american store last week quite looking forward to it

Diablo_Rosso 1 December, 2010 @ 1:10 pm   16

Hi Ross, any idea if the stealth car pack for GT5 will hit the store? I have the chromeline ones and I want the full set. :D

Not bad, may grab me some Burnout Dominator!

Also have you got any info on the Mini Edge, never heard of it, and do you know when NOVA is coming to the PSN, love it on me iPhone, but would like to play it on my PS3 and PSP.

Cheers fella

    Ross McGrath 1 December, 2010 @ 1:23 pm

NOVA is coming out soon – I can’t say when but it’s not a long wait.

ChemicalBacon90 1 December, 2010 @ 1:10 pm   18

Assassins Creed (£23.99/€29.99) Rating: PEGI 18

LOL

And there was me thinking it was December 1st, not April 1st.

Blimey – £23.99 for Assassin’s Creed is a bit steep! Bulking it up for a Plus discount later, hmm? :P

Still undecided about Dead Nation.. I’m sure I’ll buy it when I’m bored or drunk. :)

Great update Ross.
Is Under Siege coming next week?

How can you justify pricing Assassins Creed at £23.99? The game is a “Platinum” classic in the shops which are usually priced at £17.99-£19.99. Online it is far cheaper.

Please give me a reason why it costs more on the PSN store.

Play.com – £9.99
Shopto.net – £9.85
Amazon – £8.99

    Ross McGrath 1 December, 2010 @ 1:36 pm

This question isn’t for me. I don’t justify the price of anything. I get the games together and put them on the Store at the price that the publisher wants to charge for them.

SeanyC-SeanyDo 1 December, 2010 @ 1:11 pm   22

No PoP 2-3 HD? Really wish I had just got all 3 on disc now :(

magmar126 1 December, 2010 @ 1:11 pm   23

Nice update!

Do we also get the PlayStation 15 Years Dynamic Theme the US got this week (free for Plus members over there)?

Dead Nation & Beat Sketcher for me, very tempted by Pac Man and Edge for PSP as well. Might not be a bumper week for content but a sore one for my wallet ;)

CinderShadow 1 December, 2010 @ 1:12 pm   27

News on Auditorium/Spelunker HD? Confirmation that the Splatterhouse DLC’s on the way – can you offer any of that?

I would love to get Football Manager. I already have a mortgage though :)

Haha £24 for the first AC! What a rip off!

Carnivius_Prime 1 December, 2010 @ 1:13 pm   30

Dead Nation really needed a demo. I think there’s supposed to be some freezing issue if you have a full PSN friends list too (I don’t, I regularly cull players I don’t play with anymore). I might still get it anyways due to my love of Super Stardust HD and despite my dislike of zombies (they’re boring).

Nice to see Pacman on PSP though I’m happy with the rather superb PS3 version last week’s store had. Playing it right now actually (ok it’s on pause obviously, I can’t type and play).

    Ross McGrath 1 December, 2010 @ 1:28 pm

Well you’ll probably see a Dead Nation demo later, but I will vouch for the game – it’s very good I’ve been playing it over lunch. Not had a chance to play it co-op yet but James G. tells me that’s the best way to play it.

    James Gallagher 1 December, 2010 @ 2:02 pm

Local co-op is a blast and I’ve given myself some serious acid heartburn trying to sprint to the next checkpoint with no ammo and hundreds of guts-gobblers on my tail.

Just Dead Nation for me this week. Would’ve probably picked up Beat Sketcher, but £8 is a bit too expensive (in my opinion). Extremely disappointed that we’re still waiting for Auditorium HD and Spelunker HD … any chance we’ll see them before christmas Ross?

MentalArithmetic 1 December, 2010 @ 1:13 pm   32

Are we going to get Dragon’s Lair on PSN like our American friends?

    Ross McGrath 1 December, 2010 @ 1:38 pm

I had a look and it’s on the schedule for release here but it doesn’t have a date yet. So yes, but I don’t know when. :)

irish-sid 1 December, 2010 @ 1:13 pm   33

Sorry, but AC is far too much. I know it’s UBI’s decision, but it’s a bad one. Why do the devs keep pricing themselves out of it? £10-12 and they’d have sold a bundle of them.

I might get POP, I hope it’s as good as I remember.

JordanBlack68 1 December, 2010 @ 1:13 pm   34

£24!!! What a rip-off.

You can get it for a tenner on shop.

H3KingHawk 1 December, 2010 @ 1:14 pm   35

whats up with the weekly crappy avatars? its a repeated cycle of Thefight, Eyepet, Kung fu rider and sports champions…the USA store has awesome variety and im in no way of blaming you Ross but surely you can see my point?

The digital edition of Assassin’s Creed is very expensive, the recommended price for the retail version is 19,99€ and I was expecting something like that, or less, because of the missing manual, box, etc.

At least we finally get Dead Nation!

Thanks for the update! My question: Any idea when is PixelJunk Shooters 2 out?

PenguinGlen 1 December, 2010 @ 1:14 pm   38

Nice update. :)

Yay for Pac-Man mini. I bought the Championship Edition the other day and I’ve been addicted since… can’t… stop… playing. :P Will be nice to have a mini form for my PSP.

Cant you say to Ubisoft “Err guys i think your taking the [DELETED] there with your pricing”

Freaky324 1 December, 2010 @ 1:16 pm   40

I stheir any chance we could get any of the resi titles coming to psn? (fingers crossed)

    Ross McGrath 1 December, 2010 @ 1:42 pm

Same issue with the Capcom PSone titles. If anything changes you will know.

Are trophies added to AC?

Nice update :D

Assassins Creed Overpriced or what?? Red faction:Guerrilla was a good price for a 1year and a half old game but this is a 3year old GAME. 2new assassins creeds has released and the price is 30euro?

SpyDudeFX 1 December, 2010 @ 1:17 pm   43

We have no avatar choices too, EU has SingStar and others that the US lacks. I wish more of the content were universal, Japan has some awesome avatars.

PSN-OmniusALX 1 December, 2010 @ 1:17 pm   44

Gran Turismo Avatars?

Sony/PlayStation Avatars?

Nope….thought not!

Whats with these store prices!

As always, if the PSP2 is indeed ‘digital only’ and the PSPgo was a tester, its not the digital only product that’s the problem, its the stupid pricing for store content not only for PSP but also PS3…I think disc based media is here to stay! Publishers need to get with the program otherwise it will die just like the PSPgo…

Cringles88 1 December, 2010 @ 1:18 pm   45

Always nice to get free Zombie wallpapers!

Also, am I wrong in saying, that PS Plus members, are pretty much paying to get discounts on games? is it just game discounts and that tv show every week? plus maybe some early demos?

    Ross McGrath 1 December, 2010 @ 1:45 pm

Well the valueof everything included in Plus is way, way more than the subscription. That’s sort of the point.

alkyonides 1 December, 2010 @ 1:19 pm   46

@Ross There’s no need for the bad-mannered response, was there? I’m sure I won’t be the only one to point it out. They will also read this blog post and comments and see the reaction to that price.

    Ross McGrath 1 December, 2010 @ 1:46 pm

I don’t think my response was bad mannered at all, I apologise if you took offense.

twistedintoform 1 December, 2010 @ 1:19 pm   47

actually, i got AC for £4.99 on disc!

anyway, vip map pack 7 for BFBC2 is due to be available in-game today! :)

x51CKxGRIM4LDUS 1 December, 2010 @ 1:22 pm   48

are we gonna get those splatterhouse masks ?

anonymus212 1 December, 2010 @ 1:23 pm   49

>> James on #11 — thanks for that James !

HiddenAway 1 December, 2010 @ 1:24 pm   50

I know it ain’t your fault Ross but the Football Manager Handheld price is a bit steep for PSN isn’t it?! :P
