Hi, PlayStation fans! My name is Tommy Rydling, and I’m a Jr. Product Manager at DICE.
I’m here to tell you about the cool community challenge we’ll be running for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam. Maybe just a quick recap on this digital expansion pack first: It’s Battlefield: Bad Company 2 gameplay only set in the 60′s in the jungles of Vietnam, featuring new weapons, new vehicles, and two hours of era-specific music – all played on five brand-new maps.
Actually, this is where the Community Challenge kicks in. Our fifth map is a bonus one – a treat that you need to earn by showing us you know what Battlefield team play is all about.
This is not just any bonus, by the way: it’s the classic Operation Hastings map, made famous in our PC game Battlefield: Vietnam from 2004. If you didn’t play it back then, it’s one of the favorite maps among our fans – it features everything awesome in one fantastic arena: boats, helicopters, tanks, jeeps, temples, and the signature bridge dividing the map into two strategic areas.
To make things a little more interesting, we’re giving you, the players, the power to unlock this fifth map!
So what do you need to do? Easy. You and all your friends playing on PS3 need to perform 69 million team actions across Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam. So what’s a team action? Well, it’s any and all of these: resupply, revive, heal, spot, and repair.
As soon as all of the players on PS3 have amassed 69 million of these team actions, we will unlock Operation Hastings for you to play. As with all other maps in this expansion pack, all four game modes (Conquest, Rush, Squad Rush and Squad Deathmatch) are available on Operation Hastings.
For an action packed preview of the map and this community challenge, just watch the video at the top of this post. Oh, and if you want something to hold you until the launch of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam, I’d like to remind you that we released four new maps for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 a couple of days ago in VIP Map Pack 7.
If you’re a VIP player (if not, you can always get a VIP code at the in-game store), you get four maps never before available in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 multiplayer.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam is out on PS3 on December 21 in the NA and December 22 in Europe. VIP Map Pack 7 is out now. For more info on Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam and the current standings in the Battle for Hastings, visit the Official Site.

Bring on the challenge! I can’t wait for this!
One question:
Will there be an option for players to start at Level 1 on the Vietnam Expansion?
I can’t speak for every BFBC fan that have spent an insane amount of hours playing and reaching Rank 50 but I for one enjoyed that notion of progression with each class in BC2 – hearing that my XP will migrate over come the expansion’s release will void any sense of that which is disappointing.
Could you please reconsider the option for players to start at Rank 1?
Happy gaming,
Boogalicious

Love Bad Company 2. Best FPS by far. The new maps are great and I can’t wait for Vietnam to come out. My squad will be up for helping unlock Operation Hastings.
Good work EA/DICE.
Now can you please show some love to Medal of Honor as well, as that’s a brilliant, but under rated game that and BC2 fan would love (if it had a few more maps and guns).

Any chance of Wake Island appearing one day?!…
Or Karkand?
Or Camp Gib?
Or [insert yet another epic retro Battlefield Map]?

Great job, DICE. I can’t wait for the Vietnam expansion to drop, especially with the return of in-game music
Thanks also for VIP Map Pack 7, which is awesome.

It is all nice and dandy, but we all forget one little thing – original BC2 is still full of bugs which are ignored by the company, who is introducing another game in a short while.
Dice, what happened to that all bronze glitch, and servers freaking out, or new VIP maps not showing up in the menu list? Two days ago I downloaded almost 2gigs of a patch, what was in it? couple of scopes on few guns and moved objectives. Next day you try to play new maps and they don’t even show up for you to choose. And servers kicking everyone out. So was it 2 gigs worth of bugs in there?
I can’t even imagine what kind of bugs are going to see with Vietnam expansion. I am really really getting tired of this n00b mentality. You guys are working on BF games for so long, and still cannot manage to release a game without a problems, or to complete it properly.

There’s nothing to be fixed on Medal of Honour, Because obviously DICE just used them to get extra cash, Honestly why would DICE make MoH better than the battlefield series?
It’s MoH’s creators fault for trusting them.
I was already expecting this lol

How about you answer the people who payed good money for the original game in Australia and were told we would have local servers? At the moment it’s a painfully frustrating game online. Or is that what you want us to experience. You won’t be getting another cent from me that’s for sure.

According to the Update news bar on Bad Company 2′s title screen, it’s not released in the UK until the 22nd.
Anyway, is it 69,000,000 Actions or points gained from actions? (Ie would reviving 10 team-mates count as 10 or 500?)

Lots of DICE bashing going on… I do agree there a alot of technical glitches in the Battlefield BadCo 1-2 games. It was their first attempt at a console game, for a console gamer market.
They were probably forced to strip down a ton of functionality and shrink the game size. A bunch of vehicles got left out. Pilot operated jets, my favorite class of vehicle, had to go since the current maps are so small. Concurrent max players for a match size went down from 64-64 to 32-32. The ablility to command multiple squads.. gone. The ability as a Recon class to spot targets for players in artillery .vehicles disappeared. The Support and Spec Ops classes disappeared. The ability to change your weapons firing mode… lost. I can go on and on.
I can only hope that Battlefield 3 stays true to the PC version history, rather catch the console anemic sickness.
