It’s been a while since we’ve shown anything new from MotorStorm Apocalypse, we were planning on keeping pretty quiet while we work like maniacs to get the game finished. But when I was asked to skip over to New York for one last reveal of 2010, I couldn’t resist showing just one more track, and of course sharing a glimpse on the Playstation.Blog.
Let me introduce a track that has presented us with some of the biggest gameplay challenges we’ve ever had: Skyline, AKA ‘the Blockhopper’ AKA ‘Vertigo Redux’, AKA ‘the one with a race where you get dropped from a helicopter onto a skyscraper that is already collapsing, and are expected to win against a pack of bikes and ATVs on rooftops and in offices that are falling to pieces’.
Making the track spectacular but also fun and winnable by all 13 vehicle classes has been a real test of everything we’ve learned.
For obvious reasons there are a lot of jumps and ramps as you pelt from one building to the next, and that means ensuring you can always make those jumps after bailing, even in a Monster Truck. The addition of in-air cooling (you can earn more boost if you release the accelerator in the air) means there’s another new tactical layer to the gameplay, as you can hunt out ramps to maximise the boost available to set world-beating times. It’s been an interesting track to get right!
We’re close to nailing it though, and hope people agree that there’s never been a race like this before.
We haven’t blown our load yet – there are a good few more surprise tracks in store from MotorStorm Apocalypse. So keep your ear to the ground for some more news in the next few weeks, I hope you can join us for the party at the end of the world when we launch next year!
Cheers and Happy Holidays.

WOW WOW and WOW, screen shots look beautiful. Uncharted 3 now Motorstorm 3, will this be in 3D as well? Your Avatar looks sweet!

Really glad that you like the screenshots – all of the ones featured in this blog were taken in the game using Photo Mode.
MotorStorm Apocalypse will most definitely be in 3D, and it’ll be the most impressive way to experience every building collapse, explosion and vehicle wreck as the city is destroyed around you.

MotorStorm Apocalypse really shows off how much 3D adds to the gaming experience. I’m really pleased that you were able to try it out at the Eurogamer Expo – and thrilled that it was your highlight!

sniff sniff, do i smell a demo on the way? or can i hear the rumble of an open beta?
seriously you guys have me torn between motorstorming my next car or a full on 3d telly…..
well i know which is least likely to get me arrested, anywho is it too late to suppose a collectors edition is out the window? bit unfair if not as kz3 lbp2 and no doubt uncharted 3 and resistance 3 will get one yet motorstorm gets a plastic box. very apocalyptic. game is looking mega btw

There’s no demo planned before Christmas as everyone on the team here at Evolution Studios is working extremely hard on the game, but do “watch this space”!

@Sw1tch
i agree with ya i really hope they fix that exploit cause that made me stop playing motorstorm pacific rift cause no matter how far i was ahead they would just respawn infront off me and keep spamming that so i could never overtake them making it impossible for me 2 win

i’m wondering one thing about apocolypse.. that is compared 2 pacific rift will tracks look awsome or just boring building everywhere cause i loved the 2nd one because off how the environment looked
Posted on 10 December, 2010 at 10:51 pm by Phenom_Evolution
Although I’m obviously biased, the tracks look absolutely spectacular. It’s not all inner-city racing on, in or through buildings and skyscrapers; events take place through subways, by the shore, on the docks, inside stormdrains and throughout the suburbs…
Even the city itself transforms your expectations of racing on the streets as buildings collapse to rubble, sink-holes swallow the road and devastating tremors rip the tarmac apart to dramatically alter the racing terrain.

“We haven’t blown our load yet” – Are you allowed to write stuff like that in a PG blog?
Can’t wait for the game!!!

Looking good Matt!
Always a keen follower of all things Evo Studios/Motorstorm!
I’ll be adding this game to my collection for sure. On other things, I do hope with all the game engine tech you have developed since the PS3 launched, licences permitting, Evo Studios will be making a return to the world of WRC, 2011 looks like the year WRC will be re-born with the new S2000 class (gone are the WRC class cars). So more manufacturers back into rallying!! I just know you would do it justice!
Also, I’ve been gaming long enough to be honoured with the glorious Magnetic Fields games from back in the day! How much I loved the Lotus games and that cool track creator R.E.C.S.! (I also loved that music you used for your logo – Excalibur)
Roll on 2011!

FF wheel support?, i avoided buying pacific drift due to no FF support (frankly criminal), dirt 2 does a decent job at FF so surely this should be great, right?.

are you guys able do divulge any information regarding the improvement of the online experience? it was a bit of a let down in Pacific Rift. By this i mean things like:
*stopping exploitatation
*reducing lag
*being able to mute other players
*ability to use custom music online
*stopping trackblockers
I am also curious to know how well you will support this game, as you guys left Pacific Rift for dead, leaving many glitches and DLC that wasn’t ironed out.

Split/Second, eat your heart out! >:)
Sooooooo exited. I’ve got all 3 current motorstorm games and they rule!
Pacific Rift is the second-best racer i’ve ever played on PS3 (after Burnout Paradise).

LOL @ #13 & #18
Matt,
Can you tell us something about the amount of bikes/cars (and what percentage of the vehicles will be bikes), and how the bikes and cars will be able to race together.
Is there some kind of balance to make sure the bikes ( don’t ) get crushed every time a cars hits them?

I hope multiplayer will not be glitched as Pacific Rift i just cannot advance as somehow I got Rift every 3-4 games, and almost everybody is using the shortcut glitch and I just cannot perfect me, and I’m last always. Also the Razorback boost explode glitch is annoying, and for us late adopters it is incredible frustrating to try to get platinum because of this glitches because 80% are pros who knows every little glitch. I have given up hoping for a patch that resolves these glitches since a long time as it seems that there is no more Pacific Rift updates for a year or so …
