Scorpion and Sub Zero, known the world over as the most vicious and devastating rivalry. Surely there is no way this epic battle between two fighters, whose hatred knows no bounds, could become any more twisted?
Enter a demi-God with a penchant for revenge and a fuse so short even Zeus himself has felt its sting. This isn’t just Mortal Kombat, this is mythical, bone crunching, ‘revenge of the Gods’ Kombat. This is Kratos Kombat.

I’m so getting this game. Even Kratos’ name fits!
How ’bout Mortal Kratos though?

I’m interested in knowing how Fatalities work against Kratos.

For the first time in many years I’m really looking forward to a Mortal Kombat game.
This’ll be my first MK since MK Trilogy on the PS1 and I’m really hoping this delivers.
The addition of Kratos was a bit of a masterstroke.

I was really looking forward to this, and even more now with Kratos joining in. The game looks sick and as a follower of Mortal Kombat (since forever), I’m really happy to see that it’s going back to the roots again.

is this Kratos’ second appearance in a fighting game?
I still just can’t get into MK. Right from the original arcade game the fighting engine has always felt ‘wrong’ to me somehow and MK vs DC was awful (what was up with the collision detection in that game?)

First MK since 4 I’ll be buying
“is this Kratos’ second appearance in a fighting game?”
I think he was Soul Calibur PSP

Yes, Kratos was also a playabe character in the PSP-game “Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny”.
I’m looking forward to this, though. Kratos will be kicking ass! Too bad he will also get killed more than once by other characters

Just read about certain American stores getting “retailer exclusive Fatalities” and stuff.
Why do you guy’s do this?It really p****s me off and hope it’s a trend that dies really soon, unlikely but I hope it does.

I agree with Vonhammer. I’m a big Mortal Kombat fan but I’m boycotting it if what Vanhammer says is the case.

@13 @12
I really doubt they would do that in the UK. You got competitors like Gamestop in the US who really are quite like bulldozers in getting people through their door.
On other news, saw this at VGAs – yes it is cool but I am a bit bored of MK now. Ezio would finish them all anyway

Kratos is not good in guest appearances, GOW is how he should be remembered.

Finally. I’ve always wanted Nathan Drake in Mortal Kombat.
Awesome!

Will there be proper fatalities (ie. severed heads and spine columns), or is MK9 watered down? If latter, pass.

This video clip is the best teaser for a long while. Takes me back to when MK was the daddy!

Well here we are, the final death-rattle of the series, nothing says “running out of ideas” more than cross promotion. It’s exactly like Soul Calibre climbing in bed with Star Wars. Everyone knew it was going to be awful, and low and behold it was.
Alas poor MK, we harldy knew thee.

I think this game will be awesome. I think that Kratos fits perfectly with the mortal kombat world because he is the god of war. Keep in mind that the god of thunder (Raiden) has been a playable character since the beginning. Also remember the god of wind (Fujin from Mortal Kombat 4) was also playable. Kratos being the god of war just fits in perfectly

I am in complete agreement with vonhammer & brindy666. Re : “Retailer Exclusive Fatalities”
Like to throw this out there, I am the consumer Warner Bros, as the consumer you will attempt to entice me to purchase your product. Mainly this happens in the US, but why do you discourage this by making me HAVE to choose a “pre-order that is right for me”
Pre-order bonuses should be used to reward your customer for intent to buy or by choosing your product over another similar product, they should not be used to split the customer base.
Stop trying to please the store before the customer.

#25, you got it in the last sentence – it’s about pleasing the stores. Brick and mortar game stores see the writing on the wall with increasing importance of DLC and PSN games which they don’t get a cut at all. Second-hand games are also a lucrative business for them (not so much for Sony although they do get a cut because the re-selling is already included in the price of the box), but you can’t re-sell DLC or downloaded games. So Sony et al feel the need to throw them a bone to encourage them to stock their games, rather than moving to other more profitable products.
Perhaps it’s different in Europe, and the stores don’t have as much clout. The market is certainly much more fragmented due to national boundaries, which also makes it tougher to distribute such rewards.

Kratos? Pah! Scorpion’s got it easy. This is his territory, he’ll destroy the imitator Sub-Zero and then the pretender Kratos. Long live Scorpion!
