In terms of content, we bring you there all the latest trailers from the world of PlayStation, news and features, as well as guides to help you get the most of your PS3.
Go check out the new site now at eu.playstation.com from the Internet Browser on your PS3.
In the New Year you can expect more to come to this new site, with the integration of the PlayStation.Blog and PSN community features.
I look forward to hearing your first impressions on the new site and, for those without immediate access to their PS3, here are a few screens.

Looks really nice but the real test will be how much it actually gets updated with new content, will the blog be linked in?
Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 12:41 pm by James Gallagher
It brings in the content from eu.playstation.com which is updated every day, so no worries there. This blog is the next thing that will be implemented in the new year.

Do you guys have any information on when the browser is going to be updated?
The site looks awesome, which is great for tailored content.. but so many sites still cause it to crash or ‘overload’ (www.crunchyroll.com for example, just watch more than two or three vids).
Is any working on an W3C/HTML5 compliant version?
Keep up the good work, looking forward to getting the blog on screen at home

Looks pretty good. However I do hope there comes a usable browser on the PS3 for browsing the rest of the internet as well soon. The PS3 browser is pretty useless in that aspect.

Not working for me. It gives the resolution of my TV s an excuse. It’s a HDTV, 1080p Plasma! I can only view a boring SD version.
Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 12:51 pm by Emmanuel Orssaud
Thanks for letting me know. We’ll check that the TV resolution detection is working properly.

whats the address?? these hd sites never recognize my hdtv, i have to punch in the address to go to the hd plus7 site aswell, cheers, Jp.
Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 12:53 pm by Emmanuel Orssaud
the url for the site is ps3.eu.playstation.com. It should be the default homepage of your PS3 browser if you haven’t changed it.

So, will we finally be able to actually watch PS Blog videos on our PS3s?

Yes, very soon!

Does the move work as a pointer then?
If so awesome.

yes, you can use PlayStation Move to navigate the site.

Very nice feature and will certainly enhance the browser experience
But how about updating the browser in general making it more Web 2.0 ‘friendly’ ?
Using Internet Explorer 6 in 2010 is not that tempting anymore…

Too bad the site only works in 1080p resolution; mine is 720p but I get the warning that it only works in High Definition, so I am redirected to the SD version.
Based on your replies; this might be a glitch in the resolution detection; so I’ll just wait and see!
Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 1:32 pm by Emmanuel Orssaud
720p is not supported due to the very small number of users that have this resolution. If the option is open to you, try changing your settings to 1080i (in xmb display settings) or try changing the resolution on your browser to +1 or +2. this is not officially supported but may work for you.
Once you’ve done this, clear cookies and cache then close and open your browser again.
Let me know if this works.

Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 1:09 pm by Emmanuel Orssaud
Thanks deltaman-3.
For everyone having problems accessing the new site from a HDTV, please go into the Browser Menu by clicking triangle then select View and finally click on Standard Size.
Let me know if you still have problems after doing this.

Yes, the site won’t display for me if I use the -2 resolution option in the the internet options. -1 seemed to work but not -2. Looks cool BTW.

Using the move is not so simple, better with the d-pad. The site is good, well done.
However it would be better updating the browser, webkit or gecko

Wow, this is what you guys have been working so hard on. This impressed me so much that I almost forgot about boring stuff like:
X-Game chat
More stable, high capacity servers/infrastructure
Custom avatars
Your becoming the company that can’t really compete

ok ps move doesnt work very well with it.keeps freezing.and u need to sort out the videos.a lot of stutter, not running smooth…
Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 1:45 pm by Emmanuel Orssaud
We are still working on pushing this site live and the system is still processing thousands of videos that’s why it’s a bit slow. It should be running smoothly by the end of the day

Well PS Move just works like it does on all other sites. The cursor just jumps from link to link. was expecting it to be mouse-like.

I’m glad you are implementing the PS Blog as I’m always using the same bookmark and it’s annoying that I can’t seem to comment on articles using the PS3 web browser.

Hi love the new look of the website, wish i could view it, it keeps telling me i dont have an HDTV. I do have one, but it wont let me view it. Can you help me please?
Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 1:51 pm by Emmanuel Orssaud
Hi SHARPkatana,
try changing your settings to 1080i (in xmb display settings) or try changing the resolution on your browser to +1 or +2.
Once you’ve done this, clear cookies and cache then close and open your browser again.
Let me know if this works.
Make sure your TV supports 1080i or 1080p. The new site doesn’t support 720p.

This is great, but the browser still falls behind the rest of the consoles features…
Also, I noticed whilst using the browser that the PS3 seems to “overscan” a lot of content on websites… upon noticing this I also spotted it occurring with video, images and games too, many of which do not offer a screen-size slider… in fact, the overscan issue makes Scott Pilgrim: The Game extra difficult as you cannot see enemies hiding on the edge of the screen…
How likely is it that we’ll ever get a universal screen size setting that effects all content on the PS3?
Thanks.

“720p is not supported due to the very small number of users that have this resolution.”
Are you serious … I would imagine most people have their PS3′s set to 720p. Setting my tv to 1080i so that one website works is not an option (as far as i’m concerned it looks worse than 720p).
Also, setting browser view to standard size does not work, it automatically resets itself to maximum size straight away.
If you are serious about making a better browsing experience on the PS3, either give us a better browser or make your site support multiple resolutions.
Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 2:03 pm by Emmanuel Orssaud
Hi R1MJAW,
I just had a look at the stats and 720p resolution is used by less than 2% of our users on the PS3 browser.

“720p is not supported due to the very small number of users that have this resolution.”
I’d hope that Sony would conform to accessibility standards, and supposedly being professionals, build a website that doesn’t exclude the minority of people that don’t own a 1080p capable TV. I, like R1MJAW, run mine at 720p as 1080i doesn’t look anywhere as good.
And I second all those calls for an updated browser, what point is having a PS3 ‘media hub’ that ‘only does everything’ if it can’t display the vast majority of websites properly. Outdated Flash, JavaScript, and HTML does not make for a smooth browsing experience. Even a simple website that I designed myself, which is compatible with all browsers I can think of, does not display properly on my PS3.

“I just had a look at the stats and 720p resolution is used by less than 2% of our users on the PS3 browser.”
Whoa!! Hold UP!
Based on that 2%, assuming you only mean the UK and given that UK PS3 sales are close to 4 million, you can excluded approx 80,000 PS3 users from viewing this new site.
That’s intense and rather arrogant.

Really impressed with it, once the blog content starts going on to it ill be setting it as my homepage

It’s coming. We were trying to get the blog in there from day one but there were a few snags. I’ve seen mock-ups of how it’s going to look though and I’m dead excited!

Maybe fixing the browser would have been a better move as it’s useless at the moment not even worth the time because it crushes and is very slow to use and search .

Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 2:20 pm by Sp4reNL
Nice. 1080p only
.
Thats useless for me. I keep my PS at 720p because I got tired of the system jumping around between 1080p menu and 720p for a game.
Some times I even needed to resync to that HDMI-exit because it lost signal during the switch and didn’t come back…
And how about a browser update?

Has it gone live yet because everytime i boot up the Net browser i still get the OLD home page Why? :l
Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 3:02 pm by Emmanuel Orssaud
Make sure your TV support 1080i or 1080p and that your PS3 is also set up to 1080i or 1080p.
If this still doesn’t work:
- open the browser
- press triangle to bring up the Browser menu
- click on Tools
- in Display Area select Standard
- in Resolution select Normal
- Make sure JavaScript is On
Let me know if this works.

That is insane of them, I’d assume even more as it covers the whole of the EU, possibly other PAL territories too. Or is that based on worldwide access?
Either way it seems that Sony aren’t too worried about W3C accessibility standards. Or dropping thousands of hits.
Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 3:06 pm by Emmanuel Orssaud
We are not dropping any hits. The website that we’ve just launched is for 1080i or p resolutions only. The previous site is still live and accessible for all other TV resolutions. We are not downgrading the experience for anyone.

Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 2:32 pm by Skookie30
Never mind i did set the different default address & this message comes up…..
“We have launched a new High Definition site but you cannot view it because of your current screen resolution. You can enjoy all the fantastic benefits of this site by connecting an HD TV. If you wish to continue to the Standard Definition site, click the ‘continue’ button.”
so i‘m stuck with SD time being.

Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 2:32 pm by mrfight67
@heedbaw I think that number means the amount of people that view the browser with a 720p resolution, which means the number is even less since not every ps3 owner uses the browser. And many people are upgrading to 1080p sets all the time, so that number of 2% is probably constantly lowering.

What about the PSP homepage ?
40
Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 2:36 pm by whoelse
Unhappy that you haven’t given support for 720p. Although I can change it to 1080i, because my TV only “supports” 720p it’s not worth the effort because the display doesn’t look as good so I’m not going to be using it for games.
41
Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 2:37 pm by Danlisa
@ heedbaw
If we take the entire EMEAA region, that’s 20.6 million PS3s and currently 412,000 720p users.
Bravo Sony!! There’s nothing like being elitist, is there?
The lunacy if this is staggering. 95% of ALL content on the PS3 is 720p native (with upscaling to 1080i/p). So why re-launch the PS3 Homepage without that support. Did you all dream this up yourselves or did the infamous Sony think tank sell you a kipper?
Why not get it right/fixed now or is the new motto “it only does everything, except what we remove”.
Seriously, engage brain, then act.

Cool i will have a look later;) We just need a better internet browser on the PS3 i think. It works ok, but it’s not perfect really. Wish i could use ‘Safari’ or something like that on it.
43
Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 3:00 pm by R1MJAW
@ Danlisa … Totally agree. Obviously us 720p’ers are ‘an acceptable loss’ as far as Sony are concerned.
Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 3:15 pm by Emmanuel Orssaud
again, we are not downgrading the experience for anyone…

looks great….though isn’t 720p better for gaming thwn 1080i?….and since 90% of the ps3′s library is 720p native!, does making this webpage 1080 i or p only make sense?

Not for SDTV then???
Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 3:33 pm by Emmanuel Orssaud
I’m afraid the new site is only for HD TVs, you can still access the previous site at eu.playstation.com with a SD TV.

Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 3:32 pm by Major_Melchett
Really like the layout of the new site, however it really needs a few extra things on it pronto.
1 – Google search bar – that way it can be a decent homepage.
2 – Playstation account access – I’m shocked this is missing, i hate that you can’t access things like Sig, competetions etc on the PS3 browser, why on earth is account access missing in this new layout is just weird.
Add those and i’ll make you my homepage, i’ll stick with google for now.
Posted on 13 December, 2010 at 3:36 pm by Emmanuel Orssaud
You’ll be happy to know that in the next updates we’ll bring you the PlayStation Blog integration and PSN community features (this includes trophies, what friends are playing, etc…) You’ll also be able to enter PlayStation competitions from the new site soon.

“again, we are not downgrading the experience for anyone…”
Ah, so I will be able to view this new HD website on my 720p TV then?
It’s just when you stated above that the site was 1080i/p only, I assumed you meant that lesser resolutions wouldn’t work.
So, to re-cap. This new HD site will work in 720p HD and 1080 HD on both 720 native and 1080 native TVs.
/sarcasm
Edit – Oh, OK, I see. 720p users get the old non-shiny version but 1080p users get the version you’re pedaling now.
How hard is if for you to supply a comparable service to EVERY user? You already have a resolution script in the website (which isn’t working correctly, especially as we have to manually change the global browser settings) just add a check for 720p and point those users to that specific version of the site. This is basic web compatibility and design, not brain surgery.
Do I expect in the near future that the PS3 Blog will only be viewable via PC on resolutions 1600 x 1200 and upwards?
Shambles!
