Happy holiday wishes from all of us at SCEE!
I’ve hopped on the blog a couple of days early to give you the chance to prepare your wallets for the Festive Sale, which will run from 22nd December to the 5th January.
We’ve got loads of fantastic offers for you, new titles and old, to help you swell your games collection this holiday, spanning both PS3 and PSP from a wide selection of publishers. You may have noticed that some publishers are not involved in this sale – while I won’t go into details yet, I’m sure you can figure out what’s going on and if not, all will be revealed in the new year.
But enough about what’s not here – let’s focus on what is. There’s a great selection of PSN titles on offer at some great prices, including around 50% off Joe Danger, Worms 2: Armageddon and Lead and Gold. We’ve also got half-off on episodic titles with Blue Toad Murder Files and Tales of Monkey Island – perfect if you’ve passed on them so far. We’ve also got a couple of classic PSN titles in the form of Bomberman Ultra and Burn Zombie Burn! And at these prices you have the perfect excuse to revisit them. minis are also in on the action with six great titles available for only £1.74/€1.99
We’ve also got a selection of titles from some of the biggest publishers in the gaming world who have gone out of their way to offer you some early Christmas presents in the form of some fantastic discounts.
Disney has slashed the price on Toy Story 3 for PSP and are offering you 50% off all the expansion packs too. They’ve also gone all Christmassy with half-off The Nightmare Before Christmas Premium XMB theme.
EA has gone all out by bringing you discounts on their incredibly awesome DeathSpank titles, as well as massive reductions on Dante’s Inferno and Need for Speed: Shift for PSP. Theme Park and Theme Hospital? One word – Fantastic.
Namco Bandai have done us proud with 25% reductions on two almost new titles: DeadStorm Pirates for all you rails-shooter fans, and the mighty Pac-Man Championship Edition DX. If that weren’t enough they’ve dropped four of their classic PSP titles by 50% – including Tekken 6 and everyone’s favourite handheld driving game…it’s RIIIIIDGE RACER!
SEGA are not to be outdone either (everyone say thank you to Mike) because they’re bringing us Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode One at almost half-off, Sonic Adventure and After Burner: Climax at 50% off and even Valkyria Chronicles 2 gets the half-price treatment.
Square-Enix have dropped the prices on all their Tomb Raider content, including Underworld for PS3, Legends and Anniversary for PSP and the original Tomb Raider for PSone. If you missed the frankly fantastic Space Invaders: Infinity Gene when it released, it comes highly recommended at 30% off.
Ubisoft have bundled together some of the best PSN titles, old and new, at compelling prices and have cut the costs of PSP racing to round off the new year with price drops on Asphalt Urban GT2, Driver ’76 and Street Riders.
There’s also a few classic PSN titles of our very own on offer – take a look at the full list below.
I’m out of space but I’ll be back on Wednesday with the final PSN Store update of the year. See you all then!

I don’t think I could possibly feel more gutted than I do now…
I bought Sonic 4 a few days ago for £9.99… Don’t suppose there’s much chance of a rebate? *cries*

I’m only writing here as there are no other avenues where there’s a chance an employee will read it (not that SCEE care anymore).
Europe is one of Sony’s most successful regions. It’s more successful here than in North American (where the 360 remains king), yet over, and over, and over, and over, again Europe get treated so poorly.
I’m refuring to the BFBC2 Vietnam Map Pack, and the NFS:HP Map Pack. Not only does the 360 launch both of these products WORLD-WIDE on the same day, but Sony, giving another “eff you” to Europe releases both the DLC packs in North America and Asia on the 21st December….and Europe on the 22nd.
Why? Give me one genuine reason why, once again, Sony forget about Europe? I am so sick of Sony. Over 20 of my friends have given up, sold their PS3, and moved to the 360. I stuck it out. Stayed with Sony. But now? Now I’ve had enough.
Must be tough being such suck ups to publishers. Being Activision’s and now EA’s little female dog is obviously taking its toll.

>> Europe is one of Sony’s most successful regions. It’s more
>> successful here than in North American
hardly.
2010 PS3 software sales:
US: 54.5m
EU: 45.9m
also, traditionally US retail games release three days before the UK, so what difference does one day make for DLC?. in regards to the BFBC2: Vietnam pack it is irrelevant as you won’t be able to play it until the european PS3 servers get updated – EA’s european servers for MoH and BFBC are located somewhere in the randstad in the netherlands if i remember correctly, so everyone in europe will be playing at the same time.

Nothing intrest me either. Most of the good games here I already have or have played.

@Twistedintoform
Don’t know where you’re getting you’re numbers from. According to you, Sony have sold over 100 million units lol.
As of Sep 2010, PS3: 41.6 million units WORLDWIDE! But the PS3 is dramatically more successfully in Europe and Asia.
In the US, PlayStation 3 – nearly 12 million as of 14 April 2010.
In Europe, 16 million as of 14 April 2010.

@Twistedintoform:
Just re-read your post. I appologise. Your figures are for software sales. But that perfectly explains my point. A lot of gamers in Europe own both the 360 and PS3. But because Europeans get software anything upto 6 months later than the US, people are just buying it for their 360.
I have. I’ve just bought BFBC2 Vietnam and the NFSHP DLC for my 360. Why should I be forced to wait? I’d rather give my hard earned money to a company that treats Europe with the respect it deserves than to a company that doesn’t. How is that petty?
Obviously I’m not the minority. As PS3 units in Europe exceed the US, but software sales in Europe are weaker, that obviously means customers are buying their software for a different platform; ie: the 360.
I spend over £2000 a year on software, for both the 360 and PS3, although the PS3 had always been my lead console. But as of today, now I’ve bought BFBC2 and NFSHP for the 360, that will no longer be the case.

>> A lot of gamers in Europe own both the 360 and PS3. But

sounds like pure speculation to me. the difference in hardware units is not that much when compared to software units.
2010 European software sales:
PS3: 45.9m
XBox360: 37.7m
(for comparison, the Wii is top with 47.1m)
so you decided to buy another copy of BFBC2 because you couldn’t wait 24 hours for a map pack?. bully for you. you might have had more europeans to play against on the PS3 version though.
most major multiplatform games sell better on the PS3 in europe. recent examples (PS3 sales first):
Black Ops (3.0m / 2.6m – despite 30-day dlc exclusivity for xbox)
FIFA (2.8m / 1.8m)
Assassins Creed : Brotherhood (1.1m / 0.8m)
Medal of Honor (0.8m / 0.6m)
NFS: Hot Pursuit (0.5m / 0.4m)
BFBC2 (1.0m / 0.9m)
however the PS3 and xbox360 have the same problem here when compared with the US.. overall software sales per hardware unit are much weaker. (there are anomalies of course – obviously FIFA does *much* better here on all the consoles, and GT5 has done much better here than the US).

Some great bargain there…. Even if I have got most of the games on release at full price!!
But you should see some hugs sales there with those bargains!!
Think I’ll pick up…
Lara Croft, Deathspank 1&2, Space Invaders and Sonic 4!!
Can’t even think whats been left for the New Year sales??
Good work!
Any chance of seeing a PSN chart??
It’d be interesting to see regular charts of who’s buying what !

@Twistedintoform
You certainly like to copy and paste sales figures.
Everyone (interested) knows the PS3 is stronger in the UK, and Europe, than the 360. What’s your point?
Look it’s…s i m p l e. Sony have sold more PS3′s in Europe, than any other territory. But lets use American market as an example.
12 million PS3′s in the US.
16 million PS3′s in Europe.
Yet the software sales figures (that you so expertly *yawn* pasted) far exceed in the US than in Europe. Wy? It’s not due to the lack of money. PS3′s are more expensive in Europe, than US but we still buy more of them, so why do Europeans spend less on games? The don’t.
For example, of the 67 (European) friends on my PS3, 64 of them own 360′s. And of those 64, 59 either buy for the 360 or for the PS3 from the US store, rather than wait (sometimes indefinitely) for software to release in Europe.
Yes your figures *yawn* show that PS3 software sales are better than the 360 in Europe. Anyone with half a brain wouldn’t expect less. But the s-i-m-p-l-e fact is, Europeans are spending their money elsewhere….and surely even you can understand why?

So it’s 22nd now and I can’t see any reduced prices. Am I perhaps looking in the wrong places ?

I´m with Zenbucket.
I can not find any SCEE Festive Sale banners or acknowledgement of their excistence in the PSN Store.
Is this because we´re both from Scandinavia, and once again, we´re left out of deals like this?
Disappointing if true, but certainly not unexpected.

Hey Ross/ PSN guys,
Where are the 4 remaining Tails of Monkey Island episodes?
The US store has them but we don’t, is this just an error from a while back or are they being released soon?

Another paying customer unhappy that despite buying Tales of Monkey Island: Complete Season only the first episode seems to be avaliable to download.

Where did Tales of Monkey island go?
I can’t even find anything else then the trial version of episode 1.
And I can’t buy anything from inside the trial version.
This was the only thing left on my list I wanted from the x-mas sale.
