It’s gone gold!
We can now confirm the DC Universe Online is in production and winging your way (perhaps a little bit sooner than you thought it would?). Here are the release dates:
PS3 & PC versions:
- 14th January 2011: UK & Ireland
- 12th January 2011: Rest of PAL
And both versions come complete with a 30 day subscription key.
Though, please note, depending on where you’re based, some stock may take a little longer to arrive in stores due to manufacturing and the festive break. So, please double check with your local retailer.
Below are the final packshots for the PS3 and PC versions:
The first current-gen console MMOAG, (massively multiplayer online action game) DCUO throws you into a huge interactive environment where you take control of your own uniquely created character and engage with other players, whether chatting and creating new friendships, teaming up on adventures or taking part in fierce battles.
Because the world you’re playing in is constantly online, it’s always evolving – you may go away for a few weeks, come back and discover whole new areas or people. The more you keep coming back, the more you’ll find and enjoy.
Being an MMO, DCUO does require you to have an active subscription to enter the game. Here are the subscription packages available in PAL:
- 1 Month – €12.99
- 3 Month – €34.99
- 6 Month – €64.99
- 12 Month – €124.99 (Available on PC only)
- Lifetime Subscription – €179.99 (Available on PC only)
PC fans can also download the PC version from Station, Steam and IGN D2D.
For those of you that want a little more information on DCUO, check out our “What is DCUO?” article over at PlayStation.com.
Also, the PlayStation Plus beta is still available, so if you want to jump in and experience this brand-new console MMO experience for yourself – head to the Store now and download the launcher.
There will be plenty more to come on DC Universe Online over the next few weeks. However, in the meantime, for those of you that haven’t seen this already, I’ll leave you with the game’s ever impressive opening cinematic.
In DC Universe Online – The Next Legend Is You!

Wow, I thought I had walked into some weird parallel universe (not the DC one
) when I saw all those furious complaints about the subscription prices.
It seems quite obvious that many here must be entirely unfamiliar with PC gaming, where we’ve been paying €10-15 a month for MMO subscriptions for the last 10+ years.
Personally I haven’t decided whether to buy DCUO yet – not because of the prices (I couldn’t care less about paying a few bucks a month if it means many hours of great entertainment), but more because I wasn’t particularly impressed by the beta.
I had really been looking forward to trying out a console MMO, but right now I’m a little less enthusiastic. But I guess there’s still a chance I’ll end up buying the game next week.

lol I should get paid for this but, if they have cards to add money to your wallet and codes for content why not release a ”life-time package” that has the game and the life time subscription code like a collector’s edition package of the game and release cards at places like gamestop to purchase that have the life-time codes and have a place on their website to purchase the code with pay-pal and have it delivered via e-mail or psn-mail lol problem solved? Still i’m not gettin it with prices like that haha! Just had an idea and felt like sharing.

DAMN! Was so looking forward to this but expecting us to buy the game then have to subscribe monthly is a joke! Pricing might have been justified if you got free subscription for 6 months with the game. Add me to the LOOOOOOOOOONG list of disappointed gamers who won’t be buying this now. (I’m a huge comics fan too so it shows you guys just how much you’ve rubbed us up the wrong way that you can’t even entice life long comic fanatics either!)

thats just it game companies dont care economy is terrible gas prices an everything else is high or getting higher..games an game companies dont make there there product move we the people do that pc an ps3 shouldn’t have 2 pay that high price 2 play online. 5$ a month is perfect everybody wins an are happy, far as the pc paying high prices 2 play started a trend an that trend is hurting good games. lets say its 100 ps3 users out of 100 an only 5 users will be playin at 15$ a month 5$ a month u’ll have more greed gets u know where an besides what i said look at what everybody else is saying DC u will fail on the ps3,pc i guess they dont care only thing thats coo is the lifetime subscription but thats high 175$

u may make the game but we make it popular, worth talking about, help push ur product,we put money in ur company etc etc….. lets do a lil math 15$ a month at 8months u spend around 120$ another 4more months 60$ total 180$. we all know the big thing with games are add-ons or call it we 4got content just like a movie where they have 15 extra minutes on dvd vs see’n it at the movies. add-ons are ruffle between 5$to15$ ,1 game has 3 to 5 add-ons:by a years time u spent over 200$ on 1 game if not more dont 4got the price of the game 64$ add that 264$ an sum. its 1 thing if it was like this:i play an i put in 5hours of gaming an when i log off it stop an when i jump back online it picks back up on the hours until i put in realtime 24hours equals out to 1day. ill tell u what 4 as myself i could have got alot of people i know 2 buy it but at that price 4got about it

This looks an awesome game! But the sub prices should not be there…at all! I mean u have lost millions of players because of this (including me)!! This was my most anticipated game of the year MAINLY because there were no sub prices to begin with but now they have just been slipped in?! honestly sony i thought you were more respectable than that…and to your +Plus members! really?
Honestly you have lost a customer here (I was really looking forward to this – its in my calander) and my respect!

if they do not have a sub how will they pay the ppl who monitor this game. this game is a world that is moving forward. it’s not a buy finish done game. it’s more accurate to say australia should be paying less than 19.95 per month more like 15.95 per month

Ha, no idea how your going to make profit. Making someone pay for the disc then a patheticly high subscription bill. Hardly anyone will get this for ps3.

Im guessing they are still working on the prices then lol.
People have been asking the questions, where are the answers?
It would be nice to hear something other than “we’re working on it”

This wouldn’t be so bad if the game itself wasn’t $100 here in Australia. That’s way overpriced for a game that is pay to play. Incase you guys didn’t notice, all pay to play games on the pc are relatively cheap, no more than 60. This is double the price of that and the sub fee’s are even overly expensive.
I was looking forward to getting this… I doubt there will be all that many players on the console version considering the overall price of the whole thing. Bad way to go when you’re fighting the market against the likes of mass effect 2, dragon age 2 and the likes.
Bad move…

so far 50 ppl have payed for and rated the subscription for dc universe online so there is hope of this being purchased by me but only can afford to play the 30 days unless you can give a lifetime subscription on the ps3 or lower the subscription it’s very disappointing for me because i always go for the best and well playstation3 team prove they are not even close to the playstation2 team. with more deception you can be sure you will lose most of your customers take this as friendly advice you are not microsoft you prove deception is something you suck at so get some deception experts in or just stop before everyone has had enough. this is a fact (microsoft is the deception GOD)

I was so excited about this game but i am not paying £9.99 a month when iv had to pay £40 for the game.
It’s amazing how they expect people to pay extra each month to play a game. I am very disapointed in the people who made this game. AND THEY WILL LOSE ON SALES AS MANY PS3 AND PC USERS WILL NOT PAY THESE PRICES. I love all dc and marvel games but i still have other bills to pay and 9.99 just seems like a waste to me.
Another sale they have lost on.

I am playing right now and I can say it’s a fantastic game, BUT the subscription fee is too high. Sorry but I might have to let it go, since there’s huge games coming out this month. Some people can’t keep up.

Hi, you mentioned the game supplying a continued stream of downloadable content through the coming months/years?
Understandibly, with most games on the PS3, any extra downloadable content has a price tag to warrant the creator taking the time to make it. However, as DCUO already has a significantly excessive subscription, will any DLC’s be considered payed for and simply act a free updates?
