Not too long ago we teamed up with the guys in the video production department at Studio Liverpool to put three video diaries together on the two main modes in the new MotorStorm. Both modes have been present in every MotorStorm game but we’re trying to do a lot more with them this time round. This one is all about Festival mode, which I guess is our version of a ‘Campaign’.
There’s a ton of unseen game footage in this video that I hope you like and also some glimpses into the recording of the original soundtrack. It features Paul ‘Rushy’ Rustchynsky, our Lead Designer and handling design guru, and Simon ‘Barlos’ Barlow, our invaluable Assistant Game Director who looks after big chunks of the gameplay features.
We call our more flexible mode ‘Wreckreation’, and it needs two video diaries to fully explain. They’ll follow soon.

I’m loving all the new coverage we are getting at the minute for Apocalypse, it’s great stuff
The new gameplay in the dev dairy looks fantastic!
A question about multiplayer races if you can answer it? Though maybe this will be something that is being saved for a later date. I was wondering though, with the new dynamic environments we are going to see with buildings collapsing etc. just how dynamic will that be when it comes to the multiplayer? Will we see the exact same things happen every time we race on the same track? Or will there be more variety to it?
Posted on 21 December, 2010 at 8:11 pm by Phenom_Evolution
I think your question is touched upon in this video, but I’ll try and answer for you here in terms of multiplayer as well.
There’s a mix of predetermined and real-time destruction and track deformation in every race, but you’ll never experience exactly the same event twice because of MotorStorm’s emergent gameplay.
So while you’ll be able to replay the 40 unique multiplayer races and be able to explore and learn each of the multiple routes, how the track-changing events play out will always differ based on physics-based chain reactions and how the other racers then react to this (and one another) in real-time.

Also, is the Logitech G27 compatible? Or will I have to use a Sixaxis?
Posted on 21 December, 2010 at 8:21 pm by Phenom_Evolution
I’m not sure about Logitech G27 wheel compatibility as steering wheels don’t lend themselves well to the diverse vehicle line-up featured in MotorStorm, but SIXAXIS controlled steering has always been a feature, and it works well with all of the different vehicles.

Posted on 21 December, 2010 at 8:25 pm by Phenom_Evolution
The developer diaries weren’t filmed in 3D (who wants to see developers in 3D?
), but we do have a lot of 3D footage of the game and hope to be able to share that with you in the New Year. Any news on 3D footage will be posted here on the blog so you’ll hear about it here.
Lunatics re-unite!

Cant wait and it looks ace,but I cant help but feel a little bit sad.
I still think the first was a pure off road racer and I loved it so much, and sort of wish it could go back to that sort of realism. It’s day one anyway.

Posted on 21 December, 2010 at 8:52 pm by Phenom_Evolution
We’re working on some avatars at the moment and will unveil them when they’re ready for release next year. I don’t want to promise anything just yet, but I do like the idea…

Please for the love of God have XMB status updates like COD BO and Need for speed:HP that tells you what mode your friends are playing.
Posted on 21 December, 2010 at 8:53 pm by Phenom_Evolution
This is something the online team have been keen to include from a very early stage in development.

DAY 1!
Looks FUN.
1 thing i really wanted tho was a in-car view a bit like in the 1st ever original MotorStorm video had in it
(i.e you can see the steering wheel, like the Premium cars in GT5)

This looks sicksicksick
I LOLed when the train fell from the sky.
Another vote for full wheel (and pedal) support (Logitech G25). It’s easy to jump to Sixaxis when riding bikes – that’s what I do when I play Burnout

Hey,
This. Is. Awesom. Loved the destroyed bridge footage…
Concerning music, I first asked when the game was announced, now I’d like to ask again to make sure: Will Pendulum be part of the Soundtrack of the game?
I really love that band, and they’ve been part of every other MS game, so I’d expect them to come back, but I want to be certain.
Thanks, and this game looks great! Got to play it a bit in Paris for the Paris Games Week this year, the races are just crazy!

7-8 hours for experienced racing gamers… so probably about 7-800 hours for me. I’m still working my way through the original MotorStorm (on the level 3 races)

Why can’t we have your avatar Phenom?
Also considering you guy’s have done alot of work with 3D tv’s what’s better, lcd or plasma as I shall be picking one up in the new year?
Oh yeah, your game looks amazing by the way.
Posted on 22 December, 2010 at 7:44 am by Phenom_Evolution
Thanks! The apocalyptic MotorStorm helmet isn’t my PSN Avatar, it’s just my PlayStation.Blog avatar. We are creating some new PSN Avatars at the moment though which will be available in 2011, so keep a look out for them.
As for advice on 3DTV’s I’d recommend that you speak to the experts at your local Sony Centre. They’ll be able to give the best advice for you personally, based on your particular viewing circumstances and the size of TV you’re looking for, etc.

Wow, this is really impressive. So it’s great that you shared all that new footage. That mention of the original soundtrack really piqued my interest, too in your post. I’m really looking forward to that, and all the racing that’s to come from the new MotorStorm!

Jaw hit the floor there a couple of times. Missed out on the last one due to lack of funds, had the demo and everything, but this looks like it will be on my list of games I need to have next year.

they are insane, no doubt about it.
