Hey everyone, welcome to the first ‘Heads-Up’date of 2011. I hope you all had a better Christmas than I did, as my main Christmas present this year was swine flu. I’ll be trying extra hard with the comments this week to make up for my yuletide absence though.
This week we’ve got a relatively small update for our first week back but with plenty to keep you interested.
There’s a new batch of Specials, including either flavour of fiendishly competitive card game UNO (PS3 or PSP) for only 99 Euro cents. Who can say no to that? Also of note, Legends of War: Patton’s Campaign, the very well received strategy PSP title released in the last part of 2010 has been permanently reduced by 33% – I urge you all to check out the reviews online and give it a try.
2K get in on the digital BD action with Borderlands hitting the Store this week and Ubisoft bring us the much anticipated Assassin’s Creed: Ascendance.
More Trinity Universe DLC and absolutely tons of Rock Band tracks (including a substantial free track pack) round off our add-ons.
If anyone is still pondering whether to grab Kung-Fu LIVE, Virtual Air Guitar have answered the call and supplied you with a demo to see if you’ve got what it takes to become a Kung-Fu master.
The PSP NEOGEO Station gets a few more of the missing titles, including the brilliant Samurai Shodown, we’ve got two new minis and there’s some DLC for Prinny 2 as well.
A quick word about Tales of Monkey Island from the Festive Offers – you may have seen (or indeed been part of) a snafu in our entitlement system that meant when you purchased Tales of Monkey Island you were only provided with the first chapter of five.
This has now been fixed so anyone purchasing the season from now on will be provided with all five episodes.
Anyone who has already purchased the package while it was only providing one episode will have their purchase refunded to their wallet in the next few days. Once you’ve been refunded you will be able to re-purchase the game again and will receive all episodes.
As a result, we’ve extended the offer on Tales of Monkey Island for one additional week, until the 12th January in case you were holding off buying because of the issue, or if you were only provided one episode.
We’re really sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused any of you.
That’s all for this week, back again on the 12th with more goodies for you. Bye for now.

Where’s Angry Birds? The page said it was going to be released today! And in America they do have Angry Birds!
Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:22 pm by Ross McGrath
Angry Birds was due for launch today but was removed from our schedule this morning, I’m afraid I don’t know any more at the moment. If I find out more I will update you all.

Where’s the PS Plus content?

James’ update will be along at some stage I’m sure.

Can’t see anything for me today but I just wanted to ask if you knew when the first episode of Back to the Future will be on PSN?
Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:24 pm by Ross McGrath
You can ask, but I’m not allowed to tell you I’m afraid.

Is there no PS+ update this week?
5
Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:05 pm by ArsenalMark
Uno sounds tempting.
6
Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:05 pm by twinlight2
And the NFS: Hot Pursuit DLC that was sold at wrong price? Does that get fixed too? If not, could you send that extra 25 kronor to Criterion?
Wasnt anything interesting this month, maybe Plus will offer something interesting for me. I have enough with Red Dead Redemption, Batman, Dead Nation and Tetris now anyway.
Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:26 pm by Ross McGrath
Yeah the prices on that were fixed the same day.
Glad you’ve got lots to be playing even if there’s nothing for you this week.

Uno for 79p?! Surely a price mistake..

Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:07 pm by link1983
Um, Tell me that is not the second part of the big sale that we were promised. You know the jan update? Seriously. What happened to it. I too am wondering where Angry Birds is. This isn’t great at all. I defend these updates all the time but I can’t with this. It is terrible. Sorry. You just need to try harder. Thank god I am a psn+ subscriber.
Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:27 pm by Ross McGrath
Er… no, it’s not the second part of the big sale.

Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:08 pm by hollandnigel
Gotta agree, where’s Angry birds?
And TV Superstars demo…….
Sorry to say, but that’s a bit pants, it’s a Move ‘required’ game, and everyone with Move has had the demo since launch in September…

Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:08 pm by pawelgr5
Do you know maybe why Monkey Island is not available in Poland(the one that should be included in Festive offers). I was really looking forward to buy it but I cannot see it on PSS at all!!
15
Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:09 pm by flamingcarrot
Glad you are feeling better, dude.
Nice price on Uno, but I was hoping to see the ‘hinted at’ January Sale starting today.
Will there be a sale later this month, Ross, as I stocked up on PSN credit especially for it……?
Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:28 pm by Ross McGrath
Well, I had to leave a bit of breathing room between sales – do not worry the promised January sale items are still coming. There are two offer periods in January after all.

Dissapointing first update of the year. What about…
-The list of psone games coming soon?
-Info about those publishers who didn’t put up holiday specials you talked about two weeks ago?
Also, do you know if Space Channel 5 Part 2 is coming soon? The SEGA website lists it for 2011.
Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:32 pm by Ross McGrath
We’ve been back for two days! A little patience please, we are all only human on this end.
If you have a quick read up you’ll see the Jan sale is still well on the cards and I promised you the blog post about PSone titles before the end of January, and I intend to deliver on that.

i hope someone got slapped for the problems on the last store update Ross
do i have to wait for the refund before buying monkey island again? and how come it took so long to get this sorted?
it’s been like that since it was uploaded surely they noticed
Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:31 pm by Ross McGrath
Nobody has been here manning the pumps over Christmas I’m afraid Roxas, I can understand your frustration.
I would have though that you don’t have to wait for the refund as far as I know I believe you should be refunded regardless as it will be based on the transaction, although I cannot guarantee it. If in doubt, wait a day or two.

Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:11 pm by Darlo-Richie
Ross, you said that you were going to post something about PSOne classics sometime this month, when are you going to do this?

@11 uno for 79p is still overpriced.
you made me a happy gamer today for the kung fu live demo. i soooo gonna give this a try. ive been dying to try this for a while but i have huge fears over space issues and the need to seem my feet etc and how the game plays out with the kiddywinks.
any news on Underseige ?
Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:35 pm by Ross McGrath
Under Siege – I have word from the man upstairs that it was in submission before Christmas but unfortunately failed QA here, so it’ll go back in to submissions at the earliest opportunity (9th Jan). As long as it passes it’ll be out the door to you as soon as we can get it to you.

Thanks for the update on ToM, that was very unfortunate.
But what about us, who payed overprice for the NFS:HP DLC, because of a wrong price in the store.
Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:38 pm by Ross McGrath
If you get in touch with central customer services I will look into organising something on our end around this.

Just the kung fu live demo for me this week. Christmas and New year was expensive enough..
I am glad I already have borderlands on disc it is a great game.. one comment though it would be nice to see Sony getting more grip on the pricing of the digital content.
It is a great way to distribute games cheaper!! I can get this game on disc for €17.50 why would I pay €29.99 for a digital copy.
http://www.4evergames.nl/borderlands-ps3.html
Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:40 pm by Ross McGrath
All the publishers have their reasons for setting the prices they do. Once again I have to stress that we can only advise a third party pubisher of the price they want to sell their content to us, we cannot make demands of them.
Someone came into one of these threads two weeks ago and absolutely hit the nail on the head for why some games are priced as they are.
That said, €29.99 for Borderlands which is relatively new, is in my opinion, more reasonable than some.

Yes a small update for us EU no january sales you said last update some devs where not on the list because of upcoming january sales there always a january sales those sale are not it.

Very poor update.
I thought that there was going to be a second round of sales in January as well?

There’s plenty of January left.

Suzzopher:
It still might mean nothing as the publishing issues might still be holding them up but the fact that the Directors Cut of Resident Evil, which was not released here originally, has been rated is a good sign!

Why is this Trinity Universe DLC not available in Australia?
There currently is Trinity Universe DLC available for Australia (I’ve purchased some of it) and the game has been rated by the OFLC as PG. (Classification # 241100).
Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:45 pm by Ross McGrath
I’ll find out from the publisher why they opted not to select for publish in AUs/NZ, it might be a mistake on their part.
I’m afraid our systems will only allow publish of third-party content to regions that have been selected by the publisher/content owner, as a legal requirement.
I will go back to them and see what’s up.

Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:21 pm by Martingutten
Getting Uno for that price, but the rest is just bad.
You hinted VERY HARD in dec that there would be a big sale. That was NOT a funny joke tbh.
I cry every time I see the PSone update on the US store. I get it. America buys less PS3′s, so you will you need to award them more that us.
Angry Bird? it is made for Minis, so it should not have been hard to get it this weel. Ever heard about something called a phone, or what about this new stuff, email I think they call it. Whenever a game does not show up in Europe it is because of bad managment from YOUR side. You are the platform holder. It is YOUR job to make sure there is content. So you MUST take contact with developers and publisher to get them to release their game on the european store.

Thank god you address the Monkey island issue, Sony been silent on the issue for two weeks now and customer support were useless.
I had a message about it ready to paste here if no mention. Happy New Year.
Any news on Capcom avatars the US has had for ages, Darkstalkers etc?
Posted on 5 January, 2011 at 1:47 pm by Ross McGrath
I’m still chasing them – I swear I will get every one of those Capcom avatars they have in the US even if I have to shout very louly at everyone, everywhere – it’s become a bit of a personal mission. I just don’t know how long it’s going to take I’m afraid.
