Welcome back all, I hope everyone has been settling back into work okay and everyone’s sticking to their New Year’s resolutions!
Another fairly small update this week with a few highlights I wanted to point out. After last week’s sudden removal from the schedule, the Angry Birds mini does finally make it onto the PSN Store this week, so make sure you give those pigs what for. Also, we have a genuine PSone Classic in the form of Tomb Raider Chronicles – yes, we now have the first and last games in the PSone Tomb Raider series… the middle ones are on their way soon too. And don’t forget that this week we are providing you with the DC Universe Online subscriptions for one, three or six months of game time, so when your free month runs out we’ve got you covered.
On PSP, Buzz: The Ultimate Music Quiz hits for all you would be musical masterminds to test your knowledge and we have a small selection of permanent price reductions on some great PSP titles too.
Also a quick bit of service information for you:
- The final content list for the January Sales will go up in a separate blog post on Monday (like we did for the Christmas Sale). Not quite as much content in the second round but there are some great titles in there and I think you’re all going to be very happy with the list. We also have some great Special Offers already scheduled for Q1 and more TBA.
- You Dutch speakers who have been confused by the info for all the Magic: The Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers content being written in a strange tongue, rest assured that this is being sorted on our end in conjunction with Wizards of the Coast.
- We’ve done some content wrangling and the pieces of Rock Band content that has been reported as missing (including the Freezepop Pack) will be restored in this week’s publish.
- The Good News: Six highly-requested, Sony published PSone titles received legal clearance for publish in SCEE territories just before Christmas!
The Bad News: I can’t tell you what they are yet until we know there are no other issues. Sorry! Expect that info post about PSone titles and the problems we face in getting them to you at the end of January.
And so we come to the end of another update – until the 19th January, my friends…

TOMB RAIDER CHRONICLES!!!
Ahead of the US, no less it seems (otehrwise there would have been posts on tombraiderforums about it being in the US)
It’s a small tradeoff if we got it first, since we still don’t have 2-4, but I do have to say a big thank you

Wow Ross, that’s one heck of an Introduction to the post! Excited as to what those PS1 titles could be. I’m hoping for a pink haired boy named Tomba!
Looking forward to that post explaining the difficulties in getting some of these PS1 games on to the store, should make for an interesting read

Angry Birds looks tempting but think I’ll hold off to see what’s in the January sales first.
Also is there any news on the Shatter ps+ full game trial issue?
Posted on 12 January, 2011 at 3:32 pm by Ross McGrath
Yes there is – I have been told that if you re-download Shatter it should be the full title. This came from the Operations team and they ted to know what’s what.

All crap except Tomb Raider but that price for PS1 classic is insulting.
If this is the price for any non-crap PS1 classic do not bother with them.

Posted on 12 January, 2011 at 1:42 pm by Huono_peleis
There’s real Angry Birds PS3-version with trophys and all on it’s way so what’s the big idea?

Nope, they’re Capcom titles but we’ve been working on those too.

Can someone answer this for me please? I was thinking of renting the DC universe game through LoveFilm…But am I right in thinking…once you buy the game..you have to buy a separate subscription to play online?
Posted on 12 January, 2011 at 3:41 pm by Ross McGrath
Yes you would need a subscription but when you buy a new copy it’ll have a 30 day trial in it. It’s not an ideal game to rent to be honest, unless you’re willing to buy a month’s subscription.

Hey Ross. Are the PS1 double packs supposed to be listed in MediaGo? I can search for them but can’t find them in any categories or the A-Z…
Before anyone asks, some news on Persona 3 Portable to make people smile (a little)

£8 for Tomb Raider, seriously? The game is nearly 11 years old! More money grabbing from Square Enix here.
Surely there should be more consistency with the classics pricing, a few years ago they were £3.49 each.
38
Posted on 12 January, 2011 at 1:48 pm by dgnfly
o ya are you guys even trying 2 get psp games cause for like half a year now we hardly or don’t even see any off them added you know Atlus published games, and what about the lost content off the store any news about that then there are the monekeypaw games they coming before we grow old and die

Please tell me the year is going to get better Ross?
2010 was pretty poor compared to 2009 and what XBLA had in 2010. So far XBLA have started strong again. I don’t see much exclusive content coming for PSN
Tell me I’m wrong Ross. Tell me it will all be ok
Posted on 12 January, 2011 at 3:38 pm by Ross McGrath
Oh there’s some really great games coming to PSN between now and the end of February, (providing they keep to schedules!)
41
Posted on 12 January, 2011 at 1:51 pm by Tridentmorph
Disappointing update unfortunately. One game, one demo (neither of which look much good to me or any reviewers), a mini I can get for free on android and a flash game port. Wow.

Posted on 12 January, 2011 at 1:51 pm by Xiyng
Any chance we’re getting PS1 import ever, like the North American Store? I really want to play the first Parasite Eve, and I’m guessing there’s more than just that that were never released in Europe.
Anyway, nice to hear we’re getting more PS1 games. Some of them are pretty hard to track these days so it’s good they can be grabbed so easily like this.
43
Posted on 12 January, 2011 at 1:51 pm by kingkrunch456
Aw man, I was hoping to play those ps1 games *cough* RE *cough*
Still, great to see Angry birds up there finally
Also, what’s crystal mines? Not heard of it

Dear Sony,
When will the rest of Europe get “Germany’s Next Top Model”? It is ludicrous that you should segment your market like this and as usual it is the UK that gets nothing, and don’t give me that translation line because it is well known that everyone in the UK speaks plenty of German, it’s like a second language here.
Thanks for nothing $ony! I’m going to buy an Xbox now, plus I’m running away from home because I hate you!
from,
VictorAnalogy

@Ross – Any idea when the firmware update, that allows PS3 to print money, will drop?

It’s currently slated for April 15th, 2017 – you will need to buy the unannounced PS3 Money Printer accessory to make use of the update though.
