‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update 12th January 2011

'Heads-Up' Game Store Update 12th January 2011

Welcome back all, I hope everyone has been settling back into work okay and everyone’s sticking to their New Year’s resolutions!

Another fairly small update this week with a few highlights I wanted to point out. After last week’s sudden removal from the schedule, the Angry Birds mini does finally make it onto the PSN Store this week, so make sure you give those pigs what for. Also, we have a genuine PSone Classic in the form of Tomb Raider Chronicles – yes, we now have the first and last games in the PSone Tomb Raider series… the middle ones are on their way soon too. And don’t forget that this week we are providing you with the DC Universe Online subscriptions for one, three or six months of game time, so when your free month runs out we’ve got you covered.

On PSP, Buzz: The Ultimate Music Quiz hits for all you would be musical masterminds to test your knowledge and we have a small selection of permanent price reductions on some great PSP titles too.

Also a quick bit of service information for you:

- The final content list for the January Sales will go up in a separate blog post on Monday (like we did for the Christmas Sale). Not quite as much content in the second round but there are some great titles in there and I think you’re all going to be very happy with the list. We also have some great Special Offers already scheduled for Q1 and more TBA.

- You Dutch speakers who have been confused by the info for all the Magic: The Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers content being written in a strange tongue, rest assured that this is being sorted on our end in conjunction with Wizards of the Coast.

- We’ve done some content wrangling and the pieces of Rock Band content that has been reported as missing (including the Freezepop Pack) will be restored in this week’s publish.

- The Good News: Six highly-requested, Sony published PSone titles received legal clearance for publish in SCEE territories just before Christmas!

The Bad News: I can’t tell you what they are yet until we know there are no other issues. Sorry! Expect that info post about PSone titles and the problems we face in getting them to you at the end of January.

And so we come to the end of another update – until the 19th January, my friends…

addyjones1234 12 January, 2011 @ 1:35 pm   2

Angry Birds for me.

TOMB RAIDER CHRONICLES!!!

Ahead of the US, no less it seems (otehrwise there would have been posts on tombraiderforums about it being in the US)

It’s a small tradeoff if we got it first, since we still don’t have 2-4, but I do have to say a big thank you :D

poor update

QuietlyWrong 12 January, 2011 @ 1:36 pm   5

Angry Birds! W00t? Does it suffer from the problems reported on the US forums? :/

InfamousPsy21 12 January, 2011 @ 1:37 pm   6

hmmmm

turbogeek421 12 January, 2011 @ 1:37 pm   7

“Germany’s Next Top Model” … Ermm… Yay?

No Rock Band track-pack sale like US got? :’(

Not to fussed this week – shame really.

Wow Ross, that’s one heck of an Introduction to the post! Excited as to what those PS1 titles could be. I’m hoping for a pink haired boy named Tomba! :D Looking forward to that post explaining the difficulties in getting some of these PS1 games on to the store, should make for an interesting read :)

Death-In-Pants 12 January, 2011 @ 1:39 pm   11

@9 Excellent.

When do we get England’s worst homeless?

CardcaptorStacey 12 January, 2011 @ 1:39 pm   12

Nice to see Angry Birds on the list. Any news about Strong Bad yet?

Any news on the problems with the Plus update of last week?

(i know you are not the person to ask ik, but James is ignoring the Plus-customers)

DANTHEMAN121 12 January, 2011 @ 1:40 pm   14

Germany’s Next Top Model FTW lol

cheers

Death-In-Pants 12 January, 2011 @ 1:40 pm   15

Glad it’s a poor update, I’ll need my money for the montly DC online subscription.

AllytheBruce 12 January, 2011 @ 1:40 pm   16

Angry Birds looks tempting but think I’ll hold off to see what’s in the January sales first.

Also is there any news on the Shatter ps+ full game trial issue?

    Ross McGrath 12 January, 2011 @ 3:32 pm

Yes there is – I have been told that if you re-download Shatter it should be the full title. This came from the Operations team and they ted to know what’s what.

Carnivius_Prime 12 January, 2011 @ 1:40 pm   17

No decent games this week but I’ll take the Street Fighter outfits I suppose.

SpiderMike_X 12 January, 2011 @ 1:41 pm   18

Ugh.

Any chance those DCU subscriptions will be cheaper for PSN+ members?

Pacman_Ownage 12 January, 2011 @ 1:41 pm   20

O. M. G

Germany always get the good stuff D=

… >_>

*sits in dark*

Meh poor update dont think i’ll download anything this week!

sharpenedpixel 12 January, 2011 @ 1:42 pm   22

I can’t believe I get excited every week waiting for this.

Great list!
Has MAG been removed from the Store? Can’t find it on there.

All crap except Tomb Raider but that price for PS1 classic is insulting.

If this is the price for any non-crap PS1 classic do not bother with them.

Huono_peleis 12 January, 2011 @ 1:42 pm   25

There’s real Angry Birds PS3-version with trophys and all on it’s way so what’s the big idea?

almighty-slayer 12 January, 2011 @ 1:43 pm   26

Angry birds, and tomb raider for me then :D

Good to hear we have more genuine PSOne classics coming to us soon :) Thanks Ross!

Nice update :) angry birds for me! Any chance pandemonium might come to the store Ross?

Mr_Pickle 12 January, 2011 @ 1:43 pm   28

X-men Arcade please

devilwithoutfear 12 January, 2011 @ 1:43 pm   29

wow I never expected a game not comming out in the UK while it does in other EU countries.
Ross is Resident Evil 1 2 or 3 any of these six PSOne classics?

    Ross McGrath 12 January, 2011 @ 3:36 pm

Nope, they’re Capcom titles but we’ve been working on those too.
Oh, and RE1 will be Director’s Cut when it hits.

Ryandsimmons 12 January, 2011 @ 1:45 pm   30

Just to confirm. Sale is detailed on monday, but will only go live on wednesday right?

    Ross McGrath 12 January, 2011 @ 3:36 pm

Yeah that’s right, it’ll be like last time with a list on Monday so you can get prepped for Wednesday.

chicken_freak88 12 January, 2011 @ 1:45 pm   31

Cool update, very tempted with Angry Birds & Tomb Raider Chronicles :)

Any idea if Road Rash 3DO, Rage Racer & Soul Blade are making their way to PSN Store as PSONE Classics?

and Crisis Core for that matter :)

Tomb Raider Chronicles it would have been nice 2 get Tomb raider 2 first or is this series gonna be incomplete 2 like syphon filter and crash bandicoot and whatever happend 2 these games
Dragon lair
Deadliest warriors the game
spelunker HD
Hoard
Auditorium HD
and where the hell are all the avatars U.S got you know sengoku basara the Nis avatars are they still coming or is it a lost cause

devilwithoutfear 12 January, 2011 @ 1:46 pm   33

@29
oh forget about the Resident Evil part of my comment.

How Come those Birds are still Angry.
I guess i may have to pick that one up too. But looks like a lots going on on the release cycles i wonder if its leading to something.

Cringles88 12 January, 2011 @ 1:47 pm   35

Can someone answer this for me please? I was thinking of renting the DC universe game through LoveFilm…But am I right in thinking…once you buy the game..you have to buy a separate subscription to play online?

    Ross McGrath 12 January, 2011 @ 3:41 pm

Yes you would need a subscription but when you buy a new copy it’ll have a 30 day trial in it. It’s not an ideal game to rent to be honest, unless you’re willing to buy a month’s subscription.

HiddenAway 12 January, 2011 @ 1:47 pm   36

Hey Ross. Are the PS1 double packs supposed to be listed in MediaGo? I can search for them but can’t find them in any categories or the A-Z…

Before anyone asks, some news on Persona 3 Portable to make people smile (a little) ;)

http://bit.ly/i0lNdR

SmokingGnuMkII 12 January, 2011 @ 1:48 pm   37

£8 for Tomb Raider, seriously? The game is nearly 11 years old! More money grabbing from Square Enix here.

Surely there should be more consistency with the classics pricing, a few years ago they were £3.49 each.

o ya are you guys even trying 2 get psp games cause for like half a year now we hardly or don’t even see any off them added you know Atlus published games, and what about the lost content off the store any news about that then there are the monekeypaw games they coming before we grow old and die

hmmmmmmmmm no comment..

Suzzopher 12 January, 2011 @ 1:50 pm   40

Please tell me the year is going to get better Ross?

2010 was pretty poor compared to 2009 and what XBLA had in 2010. So far XBLA have started strong again. I don’t see much exclusive content coming for PSN :( Tell me I’m wrong Ross. Tell me it will all be ok :(

    Ross McGrath 12 January, 2011 @ 3:38 pm

Oh there’s some really great games coming to PSN between now and the end of February, (providing they keep to schedules!)

Tridentmorph 12 January, 2011 @ 1:51 pm   41

Disappointing update unfortunately. One game, one demo (neither of which look much good to me or any reviewers), a mini I can get for free on android and a flash game port. Wow.

Any chance we’re getting PS1 import ever, like the North American Store? I really want to play the first Parasite Eve, and I’m guessing there’s more than just that that were never released in Europe.

Anyway, nice to hear we’re getting more PS1 games. Some of them are pretty hard to track these days so it’s good they can be grabbed so easily like this.

kingkrunch456 12 January, 2011 @ 1:51 pm   43

Aw man, I was hoping to play those ps1 games *cough* RE *cough*

Still, great to see Angry birds up there finally :P Also, what’s crystal mines? Not heard of it

Hey,
Any idea if/when we’re getting Auditorium HD?

Thanks.

    Ross McGrath 12 January, 2011 @ 3:39 pm

It’s still going through the submission process so it’ll be a while yet.

@MrLopes

hmmmmmmmmm no comment.. my ass there is 2 much 2 comment about and not enough answers!

VictorAnalogy 12 January, 2011 @ 1:52 pm   46

Dear Sony,

When will the rest of Europe get “Germany’s Next Top Model”? It is ludicrous that you should segment your market like this and as usual it is the UK that gets nothing, and don’t give me that translation line because it is well known that everyone in the UK speaks plenty of German, it’s like a second language here.

Thanks for nothing $ony! I’m going to buy an Xbox now, plus I’m running away from home because I hate you!

VictorAnalogy

You don’t have to provide the link you know, we know what the US get and we don’t. ;)

You’ll see the Eco pack in the very near future – EA just submitted it to the SCEA territories first.

SpiderMike_X 12 January, 2011 @ 1:53 pm   48

@Ross – Any idea when the firmware update, that allows PS3 to print money, will drop?

    Ross McGrath 12 January, 2011 @ 3:43 pm

It’s currently slated for April 15th, 2017 – you will need to buy the unannounced PS3 Money Printer accessory to make use of the update though.

GravelDust 12 January, 2011 @ 1:53 pm   49
