Hi everyone – I hope you had a good start to the week and ‘Blue Monday’ didn’t hit you too hard! It’s Wednesday so we’ve got a Store update for you, including the kick off of the January sales.
Two fabulous new PSN games hit today (complete with trials) in the form of Spare Parts – the new robotic adventure from EA and Modern Combat: Domination, a Move-enabled FPS with compelling gameplay at a compelling price. If you’ve ever played a game of Counterstrike you’ll be instantly at home with this one.
New minis hit as well, including the wildly popular Shift extended, the previously Plus-only Pipe Madness and Soccer Bashi.
Downloadable content? Well why not, eh? Trinity Universe, Tron: Evolution, R.U.S.E. and lots of extra bits and pieces for the newly released Mass Effect II – but don’t get the Cerberus pack if you’ve purchased a version of the game with the extra content included in the box.
Also we’ve got another multiplayer update for Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood which will cost you precisely nothing – isn’t that nice?
I’m in meetings the first part of this afternoon but I will be back for comments before the end of the day – so I’ll see you then.

For £6.29 it’s a flipping good deal, and even better if you’re a Plus subscriber.

No unique t-shirt for us in EU for LBP2?
Just got the CE and played the introduction. Its really nice, got two trophies just by launching the game. =)
And why ME2 dlc? I thought the PS3 version came with all DLC on disc?
Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 3:59 pm by Ross McGrath
LBP Rare Week 1 t-shirt is going to be there, don’t worry.

hi guys i know that US friends get some ps+ discount for Modern Combat, what about us europeans?
Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 1:11 pm by James Gallagher
There will indeed be a 25% discount for Plus members. We’re hoping to post something about Plus later this afternoon, we’re just trying to confirm something first.

Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 1:05 pm by Pesico
Can you please get a copy of Mass Effect 2 on the store in not so distant future? Would love it if you guys started releasing more Blu-Ray games on the PS Store for digital download simultaneously with the Blu-Ray releases.

I’ll give this modern combat thing a try i’ve never heard of it my my Move needs a dusting xD
Ross will MAG go back up today? you said a few days last week but it’s still missing
oh and vandal Hearts is 9.99 on the store not 7.99
So it should say 9.99 now 3.99
Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 3:26 pm by Ross McGrath
Honestly, MAG is supposed to be back already – I will put the Store wizards who make the magical turbines spin to task.
That Vandal Hearts GBP pricing is in fact supposed to be £9.99 reduced to £4.99 – sorry about that. When you’re typing out long lists of prices your brain starts to shut down.

@twinlight2
There will be a shirt but seeing as most of Europe won’t get the game until later this week it will probably be on next weeks store update.

Hi Ross, on December 22nd, an EA blog post announced a permanent price drop for Dante’s Inferno – Trials of St Lucia, as well as a load of Burnout content. On the store post of the same day, the Burnout stuff was discounted (well, as of the Friday), but nothing for the Dante’s Inferno add-on… Was this an oversight or did EA have a change of heart?
Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 3:27 pm by Ross McGrath
I didn’t actually have a request to drop the price of Trials of St. Lucia when the list of price drops for EA came through, but I’m happy to follow up on it with them – if I get the okay we can sort that out.

Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 1:08 pm by arjaneelco
No mention of the LittleBigPlanet 2 Rare Week 1 shirt ? Please tell me you just forgot to mention it….. Surely you’re not passing the EU by on this as well? After the whole CE mess…

Still no Back to the Future. I know this isn’t your fault Ross and it’ll be ready when Telltale Games releases it but it’s frustrating as I’m desperate to play it!!! lol Do you have any idea as to a relesae date? The TTG site doesn’t seem to have any info on it
As for the content that is on here, I’m getting Vandal Hearts and the Smackdown vs Raw DLC!
Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 3:31 pm by Ross McGrath
Hey come on, you know the score. I can’t announce anything until TTG do.

Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 1:08 pm by SlapnutzUK
No Mass Effect 2 download?
Waiting till Friday for GTA IV add-on bundle?
Can we also get clarification on the ME2 content you listed, I mean it is all on the disc isn’t it?
Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 3:35 pm by Ross McGrath
Our version of Mass Effect II has some of the DLC on the disk, but not all of it. We’re not selling anything on the Store that’s already included, (although some versions of the game have a code for the Cerberus pack in the box).
And sorry about the small delay on the Mafia II and GTA bundles, the team found a small problem with both of them this morning and we wanted to make sure they weren’t going to cause problems before we published them.

Hi Ross, can I make a suggestion about releasing MLB 11 The Show as an import game on PSN?
As there is very little interest in baseball over here and no chance of the game being released at retail, how about the game being released similiar to how some Japanese PS1 games are being released on the US store? By that I mean with no localisation being done, take it how it was originally made.
The Show probably wouldn’t make much money if released at retail here due to costs of localisation for each country, little interest in the sport, etc. If Sony were to release it on the PSN store as is with US English intact, etc. I’m pretty sure it would do well.
The Show always gets excellent reviews, its probably the best sports game on the PS3 (I’m sure FirstPlay love it too). I’ve been importing it the last few years, but would love the opportunity to buy it from the PSN store. I’m sure there would be people who would impulse buy the game who have been curious about the title but wouldn’t actually have went as far as importing it.
It’s a Sony first party game and there is no threat to their retail partners in PAL land, so there are plenty of reasons for something like this to be able to work out. What do you think?
Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 3:29 pm by Ross McGrath
I think that’s a great idea actually and I’ll see if I can follow up on it.
There might be an issue with licensing and whether or not we have the rights to all the teams in the EU territories – that could be why this hasn’t happened already.
But yes, I will definitely follow up on this and see what can be done.

Any news on the Playstation Plus Shatter-problem?

Nothing to update you with yet, James may know more so you can find out when he makes his post.

Spare Parts seems like a good game especially for folks like me who are fond of Ratchet and Clank and it’s got 2 player online it seems. I gave the trial a demo off the US store and I reckon I will buy it though this week LBP2 has taken most of my money
I’ll get Rocket Knight discounted also I reckon.

Can I get confirmation on “Costume Quest on Ice” please? Is this just “Grubbins on Ice” and the main game thrown in as one or something new?
Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 3:36 pm by Ross McGrath
It’s a bundle of both the game and DLC, yes. No new content.

Modern Combat for me. Is it being added into the Plus section with discount already added or will this be deducted when we purchase?
Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 3:39 pm by Ross McGrath
It’ll be in the Plus section as well with the discount applied – “unforseen circumstances” prevented us from putting the Plus post up first today.

Do we need to own the GTA-IV disk to use the lost and damned packs, or will they run without them like the Blu-ray release did?
Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 3:40 pm by Ross McGrath
The DLC packs on the Store are not the same as the stand-alone Episodes Blu-ray release, so they do require the original GTA IV disc to run.

Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 1:13 pm by SpiderMike_X
No one reads the comments unless it’s theri own but I’m gonna post this anyway.
The retail version of ME2 comes with the Cerberus Pack DLC ONLY!! So if you bought it, download EVERYTHING BUT the Cerbarus DLC from the store.
Copy and paste for those that will just blindly keep asking the same questions despite it no doubt being answered a plethora of times this afternoon.

Mass Effect 2 is available as a downloadable game on US PSN Store, when will we get that?
32
Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 1:14 pm by YenRug
@loonytoon1982
I was wondering the same thing, though I do have to actually go and play through Grubbins on Ice yet, was beginning to think it’s a bad situation when developers release games faster than you can play them!
33
Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 1:15 pm by Death-In-Pants
I thought all the DLC was available on the Mass Effect 2 on the Blu Ray? Why charge £1.59 per pack for extras? So glad I pre-ordered this now I feel honoured to be able to pay for DLC from this week’s update.
Cheers for that!

Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 1:19 pm by arse2nite
Might give that modern combat domination a go but is it just a move game or can you use the DS3 controller?.
Also that spare parts reminds me a bit like rachet and clank might give this a whirl too..
Posted on 19 January, 2011 at 3:43 pm by Ross McGrath
It’s Move enabled, but not required, so yes, you can use the pad.
I’d watch out though, when Gameloft came in to talk about this a few months back they were saying that people using the Move controllers were absolutely owning those using pads.

I think you are taking it to shallow I know interest in baseball in the EU is small.. But since I have all installments since ’07 imported from the US I would like to see something like this in NL to.
Pretty Please Ross..

Don’t worry – I hold my hands up, it’s a great idea.
As long as there aren’t any serious legal issues I will definitely “go to bat” for you guys on this one.

do you have to have MOVE to play this modern combat game, and is it worth the money?
