‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update 26th January 2011

'Heads-Up' Game Store Update 26th January 2011

It’s ‘Heads-Up’date time, and in space, no-one can hear you scream… or indeed squeak in fright like a five-year old as a crazy person leaps out at you from behind a bulkhead, while you feverishly try to shoot them in the soft and fleshy parts before they start caving your head in with what can only be described as a ‘laser pick-axe’.

Yes, the mighty Dead Space 2 launches this week, bringing with it a new standard in survival horror, but let’s not forget that the PS3 version takes it up a notch with the inclusion of Dead Space: Extraction, the semi on-rails shooter prequel to Dead Space and one of the best Nintendo Wii games of 2009. Re-mastered in HD, Move compatible (but also supports the Dual Shock) and complete with co-op, this is a game no Dead Space fan should be without – for the time being, new copies of Dead Space 2 will have Extraction included in the box, but for all you thrifty second-hand purchasers or those who wait to get Dead Space 2 and miss out on the Limited Edition, you can always snag Extraction direct from the Store.

What else is on offer this week? Well, this update is small but perfectly formed and we have a little bit of everything.

We’ve got the demo for BulletStorm, the surprisingly awesome new shooter from Epic Games – the demo gives you a chance to run through one level and attempt to get the best score possible – online leaderboards are implemented too.

PSP get two new RPGs in the form of Spectral Souls II, strategy RPGing at its finest and another edition to the excellent Ys series – Ys: The Oath of Felghana, (which is a remake of the original Ys III for all those who are keeping score).

We continue the admittedly somewhat bizarre trend of bringing you the PSone Tomb Raider series in reverse, with the inclusion of Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation to our classics range – watch out for that PSone themed blog post I promised you on Monday, 31st January.

We’ve got a couple of new minis too, this time with a puzzle flavour, plus lots of themes, videos and other bits and pieces too – make sure you check them out when the Store updates.

Housekeeping time -

  • MAG is now definitely back up on the Store, so if you’ve been waiting to grab it you can do so at your leisure.
  • The GTA bundle from the January Sale Offers will be up today, there have been some technical issues, but it will be available at the offer price for an extended amount of time to make up for the delay.
  • If you’ve been waiting for the Plus full-game trial for Mass Effect 2, that too is coming as fast as we can make it happen but in the mean-time you can check out the demo, which also offers around an hour of play from the beginning of the game.

Finally, there’s a massive ‘Thank You’ from me for the fantastic response to the New Year Sales. You guys bought a record number of games in the Festive Sale and the January Sale is already shaping up to be just as popular. More support from you means even better sales, more often in the future and you really have all been great, so a sincere thank you again.

What’s next? You better keep your eye on the blog on Monday. Oh, and I don’t think it’s an exaggeration when I say February is going to be mind-blasting.

See you in the comments.

No bobos on the store today please :D

Actually, looking forward to having TR2 last. I never owned it on the original PlayStation anyways (only the PC version)

“- watch out for that PSone themed blog post I promised you on Monday, 31st January.”

damn this sounds good.. come on .. spill the beans today, why wait till next week..? ;o)

    Ross McGrath 26 January, 2011 @ 1:08 pm

I don’t know how much you’ll enjoy it but you’ll be a lot better informed after reading it. :)

Anyone who hasn’t imported Ys The Oath in Felghana has to download it on PSN today. One of the best games of 2010.

Its your team who should be accepting the thank you’s Ross! the sales were great.

On a different note Any chance of Digimon World 2003 & Digimon card battle ps one classics?

Dead Space: Extraction (£11.99/€14.99) Rating: PEGI 18
Availability: Not available in Germany

Does this mean that the Demo won’t be available in Germany or that it won’t be available at all?

    Ross McGrath 26 January, 2011 @ 1:14 pm

As of right now, not available in Germany at all, but that may change. The people I need to speak to are not here, (ironically they are out of the office with EA today), but if I find out more I will update you.

Aurora_Bliss 26 January, 2011 @ 1:06 pm   6

Aww still no BTTF and yes Ross I know you can’t say anything about a release date but maybe a hint as to if it’s coming soon would be great…! :)

AcidCrashX 26 January, 2011 @ 1:06 pm   7

Thanks Ross ^_^ have an awesome week dude

ZirdZekrun 26 January, 2011 @ 1:06 pm   8

boring update ^^

AcidCrashX 26 January, 2011 @ 1:06 pm   9

oh and if you can push to get Auditorium on the store I’d really like that :)

    Ross McGrath 26 January, 2011 @ 1:11 pm

Auditorium is definitely, definitely coming but it was only submitted to us after it went up on the SCEA store and the submissions process is pretty lengthy.

It’s a popular one to be sure, I’ll see if I can move it along a bit.

almighty-slayer 26 January, 2011 @ 1:06 pm   10

Nothing for me next week (mainly due to having no money!) but thanks anyway Rossy :D Oh and can’t wait for the PSOne post on Monday. Need some awesome PSOne games :)

Glad the sales went well. I used the opportunity to buy Peace Walker in this sale (and used the opportunity to spend far too much money in the christmas sale)

Hi Ross,

Any news/progress on my MLB 11 The Show import idea from last week?

Cheers.

    Ross McGrath 26 January, 2011 @ 1:16 pm

I’ve started the conversations with the right people, yes, but things can sometimes take a loooong time around here, (you may have noticed). :)

Shame the EU has nothing equivelent to the 11 for 2011 offer of top games the US is offering, oh well, should have expected this i suppose.

greyness123 26 January, 2011 @ 1:08 pm   13

great to see us getting the massive avatar influx that the u.s got …………. OH WAIT

ChrisandJulie 26 January, 2011 @ 1:08 pm   14

Rubbish update……AGAIN.

Still no sign of the back catologue of psp games coming to psn for psp go owners!

SuGaR_rAy_RiDeR 26 January, 2011 @ 1:08 pm   15

Hi Ross,

Defo pick up Dead Space extraction, can’t wait…..

Glad to see another Tomb Raider game available on the store, not too sure on the price though. The US version is $5.99 if i’m not mistaken!?!?!?! either way i’m just happy it’s on the store.

As for the blog post surronding psone classics, will be looking forward to viewing that on the 31st.

Also, are you going to be watching the Tokyo announcement for the psp2 tomorrow? will their be a blog post surrounding this?

    Ross McGrath 26 January, 2011 @ 1:21 pm

Well, when the Tomb Raider games went up on the US Store they were published by Eidos, who set the prices.
Now it’s Square-Enix who owns the rights and they set the prices. I am going to be talking to Square-Enix about PSone games in the near future so I will bring up the feedback we’ve been getting from the Blog.

Also, I have no idea what you’re talking about in tha last paragraph…

any update on the shatter problem? nearly been a month and it is still a trial for me and my friend. thanks

    Ross McGrath 26 January, 2011 @ 1:18 pm

All I know if that they’re still working on a fix at the moment, I’m sorry but I haven’t really had a ststus update on this. It will still be available in Plus after the fix is up for quite some time though.

Oh and cant wait to see whats on monday :)

SlapnutzUK 26 January, 2011 @ 1:09 pm   18

I thought there was going to be a January sale?

xenokiller90 26 January, 2011 @ 1:10 pm   19

Dead Space oh yes, thanks for another great update

greyness123 26 January, 2011 @ 1:10 pm   20

haven’t spent any cash on store since deadnation , poor , poor, poor

SpiderMike_X 26 January, 2011 @ 1:10 pm   21

Awaits the plethora of disgruntled flag waving countries who aren’t represented in the dynamic themes this week…wait for it….WAIT FOR IIIIT!

Other than DS:E, nothing for me. But DS:E is enough.

Smeghead42 26 January, 2011 @ 1:11 pm   22

Nice update! Won’t get Extraction since i’m planning to get if with Dead Space 2 but i will swoop the Bowie pack!

Chaosprower 26 January, 2011 @ 1:12 pm   23

@12 What about the January sales? Doesn’t that count?

Hey Ross can i ask something? i hope i don’t come across as rude or anything but i just figured i’d ask.

What exactly is going on lately with the store? it seems that ever since December every store update has been mucked up, with either content missing, wrong priced or broken and it seems to be every week!

i could understand why things didn’t go to plan around chrimbo lets face it it’s a stressful time for everyone but it just seems to keep happening.

also what’s up with MAG? i was waiting for it to come back onto the store so i could buy it but you put it up by £5 so now i can’t :\ it was 20 before now it’s £25.

and last thing are we going to get the massive amount of avatars the US received yesterday? like the Tron ones.

/End long comment

    Ross McGrath 26 January, 2011 @ 1:44 pm

Not rude at all, it’s fine.

With regard to things having gone wrong recently, there’s a great deal of stages when it comes to getting something on the Store and quite a few unfortunate things have been conspiring against us behind the scenes… I would say half of it has more or less outside of our control. The rest is because the man who actually puts the products on the Store has fat fingers and keeps pressing two keys at once.

I’d like to talk to you more about it but I can’t really go into much detail. I apologise for any inconvenience any of the issues have caused and am happy to say that things are improving now, I would say you’ll start to see less problems from this week. (You wait, now something apocalyptically bad will happen…)

DiekStiekem 26 January, 2011 @ 1:12 pm   25

Question:

Will we EVER see additional Capcom avatars? (like the US shop had for ages now… Devil May Cry, Darkstalkers, Rival Schools, Ghost ‘n Goblins)

    Ross McGrath 26 January, 2011 @ 1:32 pm

The short answer is yes. All of them, I have been assured by Capcom that they will all be submitted to us.

Opt1mus76 26 January, 2011 @ 1:12 pm   26

Nothing for me this week :(
Hopefully better update next week

Nothing for me this week. I hope you’re not joking about Monday, coz you’ve been hyping us up for a month!

    Ross McGrath 26 January, 2011 @ 1:45 pm

I dunno about ‘hype’, it’s really just an explanation and an update on what’s going on with PSone in the EU. It should be quite informative though.

Mikal_Drey 26 January, 2011 @ 1:12 pm   28

hey hey

any news on Hoard or Undersiege please :)

thanks in advance

Ross, your guys know anything about Might & Magic Clash of Heroes being released this year? Aslong as its still planned and hasn’t been cancelled, waiting patiently on this end for a few months.

Cheers muchly \m/

As much as I like Dead Space: Extraction, I’m a bit disappointed to see that we get 0 new avatars. The US-update exploded with avatars today, for example AC: Brotherhood and GTA got loads of pretty pictures. I had my hopes up high to see EU getting even a tiny bit of those awesome avatars, but I see we don’t get a single picture to buy. Why is that? You guys (I know you are just the messenger) leave a lot of potential behind for nothing, why don’t you guys never release some cool avatars on the EU store? Yeah, all we get are silly Eyepet-avatars, whereas we probably have 25 by now. Release some cool ones in the future, I’m gladly willing to pay for an awesome Castlevania, Star Wars, Mass Effect II or Dead Space II avatar for example.

Also, sorry for my bad english, it’s not my native language… :)

    Ross McGrath 26 January, 2011 @ 1:53 pm

    Your English was fine. :)
I promise you faithfully on my LIFE that all those avatars will be ocming to SCEE, most of them are already in the system and are being processed at the moment.

moriarty1975 26 January, 2011 @ 1:13 pm   31

Will the E.U store be getting the Super Fan mod/kart DLC for modnation racers?

Shou_Kobayashi 26 January, 2011 @ 1:14 pm   32

Hey Ross,

just finished reading your rant. Great the article about PsOne Classics is coming on monday, something to look forward to.

Without trying to sound to demanding what happened with the “A Day / Week in the life of the PlayStation Store Team”…

Also great to see some PsOne Classics added to the store, even if they are not on my wish list, because one game down on the store means time to pursue other games ^-^// (Yes still hoping to get LEgend of Dragoon, Soul Blade / Edge and Jade Cocoon (didn’t play JC, but just heard the best from it))

Ah also, I preordered the german version of DS2 from my local vendor, he said he can’t order a limited / collector’s edition for me, so I might have to miss out on DS: Extraction :( … so please tell me that your pursue to get that on the german store, too … or would my only savior be the dark side of the PlayStation Store?

    Ross McGrath 26 January, 2011 @ 1:58 pm

I’m chasing on the Extraction in Germany issue, I don’t yet know if there is some specific reason that EA are not choosing to publish in Germany but I will let you all know.

That other blog is still in the works as well, just one thing at a time. :)

Oh wow, great news to hear Extraction is also Dual Shock supported, I thought it was a move exclusive. PS1 themed blog eh? If you guys manage to get Tombi on PSN, I’ll marry you.

No FFXIII-2 trailer?

    Ross McGrath 26 January, 2011 @ 1:56 pm

Probably yes, but it was a late submission and I didn’t want to say in my update that it would definitely be up if it wasn’t going to make it until tomorrow morning. :)

moriarty1975 26 January, 2011 @ 1:16 pm   36

And no Irish flag dynamic theme? :(

indy-greg 26 January, 2011 @ 1:17 pm   37

BulletStorm demo, awesome!

ShadowDoGGG 26 January, 2011 @ 1:17 pm   38

I must say I was very surprised to see Dead space extraction being any good because lets face it a) its a port from the Wii and b) its a rail shooter.

ShadowDoGGG 26 January, 2011 @ 1:19 pm   39

@moriarty1975
Union jack does have Irish flag in it ;) Only Wales isn’t included

An Irish flag theme would be nice :/ Regardless of my accounts flag ¬_¬ Also :3 Please tell Tekken 3 is what you want to talk about next week :) Pretty please ^_^

@25: Yes they’re all coming, not sure when but they will be with us eventually. (Cant remember if it was Ross or James but im sure they said it last week).

greyness123 26 January, 2011 @ 1:20 pm   42

are we getting the red dead , gta4 , ac brotherhood avatars ross ? can you at least answer please rather than ignoring . thanks

Again with the bogus Tomb Raider pricing.

TR Revelations UK store: £7.99
TR Revelations US Store: $5.99

We are paying more in pounds than the US is in dollars? This is blooming (and I really something a lot nastier there) insulting, don’t SCE has some sort of pricing standard that needs be met? Yeah publishers set their own price but at least charge all regions roughly the same…

“You better keep your eye on the blog on Monday. Oh, and I don’t think it’s an exaggeration when I say February is going to be mind-blasting.”

January didn’t really live up to our expectations, like where are all those PSOne classics you promised would arrive in bulk in January for example. Needless to say, i’m not holding my breathe for anything spectacular in February.

Still no Dragon’s Lair, still no Horde, both of which been in the US store about 2 months if i’m not mistaken. Thank goodness for relatives supplying US PSN cards that’s all i can say. Even with tax the US full price is still cheaper than EU sale price.

tiago-kun 26 January, 2011 @ 1:22 pm   45

Hey Ross,

Any news on my situation?

On a different issue, my friend says that it doesn’t show up the GTA DLC Bundle, and I can’t find it either, so if you could look into that.

Thanks for everything.

The update itself has Dead Space Extraction which I’m getting with Dead Space 2 LE and Bulletstorm demo. But I suspect February will be a great month (well, it has Killzone 3 coming out, so it’s good anyway :D).

    Ross McGrath 26 January, 2011 @ 2:09 pm

GTA bundle will be up today and I’ll get the offer extended so nobody misses out.

Regarding your situation I talked to the Plus team about it and unfortunately there’s nothing that can be done at the moment but something may be in the pipeline that will help. Certainly don’t purchase it yet anyway.

ShadowDoGGG 26 January, 2011 @ 1:22 pm   46

Lets all assume on Monday they have cross chat! If Steam can do cross chat with PC/PS3 so should Sony tbh

Cringles88 26 January, 2011 @ 1:23 pm   47

Have the guys who made Dead Nation stopped making unfunny ‘dev’ videos, and started working on putting a ‘chat system’ into the game? I haven’t even played the game since I bought it. Terrible service from that team!

Also…Boner for Bulletstorm demo :D

I hope that SCEE take notice of the increase in sales during the festive sale period. It has a direct correlation to the pricing of the content. Cheaper content = More sales. Economics 101.

This trend should have an effect on all store prices, considering most items are way too expensive (yes I know ‘Publishers set the price’ but SCEE should apply more pressure to ensure a decent up take on the content).

And OMG! How much longer do we have to wait for Under Siege!!!

Oh dear, I was expecting a shed load of LBP2 content, Avatars, Dynamic theme and costumes…….yet, [DELETED] all :(

Very disappointed right now.

What exactly are the dynamic themes like?

Would be nice to see a picture or little video clip showing what it was before parting cash :-D
