PlayStation Home: Helghast Invasion!

Countries: , , , ,

Who’s looking forward to Killzone 3 releasing next month? We here on the Home team, but why should we wait? ISA intelligence provided to us earlier this week has been confirmed: the Helghast invasion commences tomorrow, immediately following the completion of regular maintenance.

Killzone3_Shot_05

Please note that due to 18+ content, the Killzone 3 event is not available for German users.

Despite the hostilities in Central Plaza, life goes on throughout PlayStation Home. If you feel the need for the comforting presence of a hero, drop into the V-Store this week, where batman posters make an appearance. The designers at Billabong have another update to their range this week, which includes a variety of shorts, dresses, bikinis, hats and jackets.

This week sees another quality update from Lockwood Publishing. After last week’s manly update we see a great selection of hosiery to compliment Lockwood’s extensive collection of skirts and the recent addition of short shorts. After a heavy day in heels or boots, there is something wondrous about the freedom of running in stocking feet; from classic stripes or plain black to fit with any colour selection, to the softer plaid pastel and polka dots that provide a gentler touch for any outfit. Please also note the following items will be removed from the Lockwood Gift Machine on February 10th: Roast Turkey, Christmas Pudding, Sparkling Christmas Gift, Christmas Gift with Gold Bow, Mini Christmas Tree, Snow Globe. These will be replaced by a new range of items.

Looking for a new Companion? The Stuff store may have what you’re looking for, with the Robotic Canine. While you’re there, don’t forget to check out the Ballerina Music Box and dragon (beware of fire!) in a cage active items for your personal space. Speaking of dragons, Alter Ego has just what you need: a range of hand-held fantasy weapons, including swords, axes and other implements of battle.

Finally, it comes time for me to say farewell. This will be my final blog post as the Home Community Lead, as I’ll soon be taking up a new role … one without a 2 hour (each way!) commute. I’ve posted a farewell message to the official Home forums for those who wish to read more. Be nice to whoever replaces me!

The First Look At Kaznan Jungle In Killzone 3

EnglishSelect a Language:

Countries: , , , ,

Today we are giving you a sneak preview of one of our new Killzone 3 Multiplayer levels: MP08 Kaznan Jungle. It is a tight, intricate map especially catered towards one of our new game modes, Guerrilla Warfare.

The Kaznan Jungle harbors the wreckage of a downed ISA Cruiser. Survivors of the failed evacuation of Helghan must fight for their lives against a Helghast enemy bent on their annihilation, but they are not the only predators in the area… The jungle, the plants and insects that call it home are friend to no-one.

You will also get to see the Infiltrator at work in this video. The infiltrator hides in plain sight, using deception to confuse the enemy while going about his tasks. His basic equipment consists of an M13 shotgun and a holo-emitter that allows him to disguise as a member of the opposing team.

Enjoy the footage and let us know what you think in the comments.

MotorStorm Apocalypse 3D Trailer…In 2D

Countries: , , , ,

Hi again,

Yesterday I paid one of my irregular visits to our research technicians in the building they share with our embedded testers and sound engineers. Once again they blew my mind with their staggering glimpses of tomorrow’s world. Videos of Sony prototypes such as the head-mounted display and the volumetric cylinder show how exciting the exponential growth of technology for games really is. The Holodeck is closer than any of us could imagine!

About five years ago, at the same time MotorStorm was in pre-production, I shared a studio space with these guys, and they were adamant that stereoscopic 3D gaming was going to be far more compelling than 3D movies. To prove it, they built a 3D simulation of our local race track and stunned us all. Politicians, senior SCEE Execs and pro race drivers all secretly visited to see what the modest geniuses we hired from British Aerospace Engineering had achieved.

The culmination of that work can be seen in MotorStorm Apocalypse. It is now regularly described as the best example of 3D gaming you can get, so all that research and development looks like it was well worth it. Hopefully most of you will at least get to see the 3D, but even more than that I hope you get to play it. This video is one we’ve made to showcase the tech – it’s 2D on the blog but you’ll be able to grab the 3D version from the PSN store to view on a 3DTV.

It’s so cool to see a ‘blue sky’ technology grow into a real game in this way. Maybe in a few years I’ll be back here with a video of something I saw yesterday, but till then, the 3D revolution will suffice. ;)

Digital Comics Store Update (26th January 2011)

Countries: , , , ,

Hello everyone – we have some very exciting releases for you today!

Digital Comics Store Update - 26 January 2011

The World of Warcraft: Curse of the Worgen series continue with issue #3… and it’s a Day & Date, meaning that it’s out today on PSN as well as in print! Famous detective Halford Ramsey has fallen head first into the world of “The Worgen,” a new race of creatures in World of Warcraft with a deep, twisted history. Will this lead him to lose himself to the Worgen form?…

More video-game goodness with Dead Space: Salvage. Set after the events of Dead Space, this comic doesn’t just feature deliciously grisly artwork by Christopher Shy and a fittingly chilling story by Antony Johnson, it also includes their Creator Commentary as well as concept art for Dead Space 2! The Government and a powerful sect seek the forsaken USG Ishimura, believing it may still hold a powerful artefact… and both will stop at nothing to reach it first.

Another highlight is the return of the much loved 2000AD Progs, with 2000AD Prog #1711 this week. Featuring Judge Dredd, hitmen Sinister Dexter in “Are you being severed?” (!), Celtic hero Sláine, dandy ghosthunter extraordinaire Dandrige in “Return of the Chap”, and more. What a program!

Charismatic anti-hero Deadpool is also back this week with his very first own mini-series, Deadpool (1993). Our Merc with a Mouth must make his way through a battalion of mercenaries in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia… But little does he know that Weapon X is lying in wait to take him down!

Manga and fantasy fans will be pleased to read that the Return to Labyrinth manga is debuting this week on the Digital Comics store. Based on the 1986 cult film Labyrinth, and occurring 13 years after its events, the series follows Toby, the half-brother of Labyrinth’s heroine Sarah, and his fateful return to Jareth and the Labyrinth.

Killzone 3 Single Player Demo Coming On February 16

Killzone 3. The jet-packs. The Brutal Melee. The PlayStation Move. The 3D!

Ever wanted to get your hands on the action? Killzone 3 may not be out until 23rd of February but we’re giving you a chance to experience into the “Icy Incursion” level that takes place halfway through the campaign.

  • February 16th is the day that Killzone 3′s Single Player demo hits the PlayStation Store.
  • PlayStation Plus members will be able to download the demo on February 9th, so strap on that jet-pack and take flight through the arctic environments of Helghan.

ScreenShot_2009_03_21_1835

There will be two separate downloads available from the PlayStation Store: one in 2D and one in 3D. Both versions will take place on the “Icy Incursion” level. Don’t worry – downloading the 3D version and playing it on your 2D TV won’t break anything… you’ll just see a message saying “No 3D TV detected.” The 2D version has splitscreen co-op as well, a feature not available in the 3D demo.

These demos will be PlayStation Move-enabled, giving gamers a chance to experience Killzone 3 with the most immersive controls. When you get your hands on the demo, be sure to try out one of my favorite new mechanics, the Brutal Melee attacks. Get close to your enemy and hit the melee button (or thrust your PlayStation Move motion controller at the screen).

The aiming and movement mechanics have been tightened since Killzone 2; play around with them and let us know what you think.

Stay tuned to the blog as we give out more details on the upcoming multiplayer Open Beta.

In preparation for the battle, check out the full list of weapons.

Once you had a go visit our forums on Killzone.com and let us know what you think.
